N2  - The article argues that within the genre of the Arthurian romance the tales about King Arthur’s vow to fast, show a possibility to conceptualize the status of ‘text’, a possibility which has historically become unfamiliar. Under these circumstances the act of telling and the content of what is told differ, if at all, slightly and this seems to be an explanation for the fact that the medieval language provided only one word for the tale and its plot: âventiure.
