The correspondence of Johann Caspar Lavater (1741-1801) : Verzeichnis der Korrespondenz in der Zentralbibliothek Zürich
- Lavater was admired and detested for his unconventional approach to theology and his rediscovery of physiognomy. He was an avid communicator and through his correspondence became known to almost all leading personalities of eighteenth century Europe, such as Goethe, Wieland and Rousseau.
