  • The process of apophytisation i.e. the process of adaptation of native species to the different conditions of anthropogenic habitats, reache different stages for a given species occurring in different regions. This results in the development of anthropogenic (allochthonous) communities whose syntaxonomic classification as well as occurrence frequently differ greatly from those of the natural (autochthonous) communities of the same dominant species. The apophytisation process is analysed using fringe communities with Chaerophyllum aromaticum as an example. These communities form a so-called syntaxonomic derivative series (sensu KOPECKY & HEJNY 1971: "syntaxonomische Derivatreihe"), the initial member of which was the natural stands of the Carpathian-Sudetic race of the Petasitetum hybridi, characterized by high constancy and cover degree of Ch. aromaticum. The distribution of this community type coincides with the original area of distribution of Ch. aromaticum fringing the banks of running streams in the Carpathian-Sudetic region. With the advance of the apophytisation process, Ch. aromaticum has become a dominant component of allochthonous communities colonizing anthropogenic habitats (e.g. edges of highways and road verges in valleys, ruderalized stream banks), where it has spread far beyond the boundaries of its original area of distribution. These communities constitute the central links of the syntaxonomic derivative series. They represent anthropogenic derivatives of the ass. Petasitetum hybridi and can be classified as derived communities within the order Lamio albi-Chenopodietalia boni-henrici, alliance Arction lappae. The terminal link of the series is formed by stands of the subass. Chenopodio boni-henrici-Ballotetum nigrae chaerophylletosum aromatici, occurring on ruderal sites in villages both within and far beyond the boundaries of the original area of distribution of Ch. aromaticum in the Carpathian-Sudetic region. A syntaxonomic analysis of the apophytisation process in our indigenous species thus serves as a key to understanding the synchorology of numerous autochthonous and allochthonous communities of the same dominant species.
