• Gegen Jahresende 2003 soll die erste Lieferung der „Synopse der Vegetation Mitteleuropas“ erscheinen. Sie umfasst 20 Vegetationsklassen von im weitesten Sinne wiesenartiger Vegetation sowie Zwergstrauch-Heiden. Die Vegetationstabellen werden als elektronische Datenbank auf CD-ROM, die Texte gedruckt geliefert. Die Synopse wird jährlich ergänzt und aktualisiert, bis Ende 2005 sollen alle Klassen behandelt sein. Damit wird eine erste tabellengestützte Übersicht über die gesamte mitteleuropäische Vegetation inklusive der Alpen möglich. Die Synopse ist typologisch orientiert: Im Mittelpunkt steht die Herausarbeitung optimal entwickelter Gesellschaftskerne auf Verbandsebene, von denen aus Übergänge und Fragmente verstanden werden können. Die elektronische Form der Tabellen spart nicht nur Platz und Geld, sondern erlaubt auch spezifische Suchabfragen und Vergleiche. Zuordnung und Sortierung der Arten sind klassenübergreifend einheitlich, beliebige Pflanzengesellschaften können direkt verglichen werden. Die Synopse enthält drei Synthesestufen („Subassoziation pro Ausgangstabelle“, Verband und Klasse). Die einheitlich strukturierten, kompakten Texte beleuchten Standorte, Bewirtschaftung und Geschichte der Pflanzengesellschaften. Sie beinhalten weiters eine Einschätzung der soziologischen Prägnanz der Verbände, die den Umgang mit den Tabellen, aber auch die Ansprache der Gesellschaften im Gelände erleichtert.
• At the end of the year 2003 the first part of the “Synopsis of Central European Vegetation” will be published, containing 20 classes of meadow-like vegetation and heaths. The synopsis is to be added on to and updated annually. By the end of 2005 the synopsis should provide the first complete survey of the Central European vegetation including the Alpes which is based on vegetation-tables. Due to cost and space as well as technical considerations, the vegetation-tables will be published as an electronic database on CD-ROM, while the texts will be printed. This will make possible specific queries and comparisons such as the comparison of vegetation units belonging to different classes but colonising neighbouring localities. The CD-ROM contains synoptic tables at three levels of synthesis: “subassociation”, alliance and class. It thus will provide both details and a more general overview. Condensed texts mainly based on the alliance will deal with the most important aspects of ecology, human impact and history. The English version is scheduled for 2005.
