N2  - Eine Ansprache des Standorts unter Verwendung des arithmetischen Mittels der Zeigerzahlen nach ELLENBERG (1974, 1979, 1991) ist mathematisch bedenklich. Als eine Alternative wurde von MÖLLER (1987) der nach der primären Häufigkeitstabelle bestimmte Median vorgestellt. Da dieser nur begrenzt aussagefähig ist, empfehlen KOWARIK & SEIDLING (1989) die Berechnung des Medians auf der Basis einer sekundären Häufigkeitstabelle (Tabelle mit Klasseneinteilung) mit Interpolation innerhalb der Medianklasse. Da dieses Vorgehen unter mathematischen Aspekten problematisch ist, wird es als Ersatz für das arithmetische Mitteln von Zeigerzahlen abgelehnt. Es wird vorgeschlagen, den nach der primären Häufigkeitstabelle erhaltenen Median durch seine Position innerhalb der Medianklasse zu ergänzen. Hierdurch werden die von MÖLLER (1987) aufgezeigten Nachteile des Medians überwunden.
N2  - Ecological information may be obtained from vegetation samples using the arithmetical mean of ELLENBERG's (1974, 1979, 1991) indicator values, but this is mathematically problematic. As an alternative, the median indicator value, based on the primary table of frequency distribution, could be used (MÖLLER 1987). As the information thus obtained is limited, KOWARIK & SEIDLING (1989) propose calculating the median from the secondary table of frequency distribution (the table obtained by classification of indicator values) and interpolation within the median class. Since this procedure is also mathematically problematic, it is not acceptable as a substitute for the arithmetical mean of the indicator values. In order to avoid the disadvantages of the median discussed by MÖLLER (1987), it is proposed to add the median by its position within the median class.
