• In der entomologischen Bibliothek des Naturhistorischen Museums in Lima, Peru, wurde Anfang der 1990er Jahre ein stark beschädigtes Manuskript, betitelt als „Summary Catalogue of the Odonata of Peru“, aufgefunden, das dort offensichtlich seit 1933 aufbewahrt war. Als Autor ist „J. Cowley“ angegeben. Ob Cowley tatsächlich der Autor des kompletten Textes ist, kann nicht eindeutig festgestellt werden. Es gibt jedoch zahlreiche Hinweise, dass das Manuskript in Cambridge (England) erstellt wurde. Auch scheint sicher zu sein, dass die Liste selbst von Cowley stammt. Dafür sprechen vor allem aus seiner Sammlung zitierte Exemplare und die Art der Angabe von Fundorten. Vermutlich ist das Manuskript gemeinsam mit dem in Lima lebenden deutschen Tierarzt Paul Martin bzw. dessen Frau Margarita verfasst worden. Martin war begeisterter Hobby-Lepidopterologe und hatte in Peru ein Netz von Schmetterlingssammlern aufgebaut. Von diesen gesammelte andere Insektengruppen übergab Martin an Spezialisten, die Odonaten wohl überwiegend an Cowley, der auch eine Art nach Martin benannte.
• In the entomological library of the Natural History Museum of Lima, Peru, a badly damaged manuscript, entitled 'Summary Catalogue of the Odonata of Peru' was discovered at the beginning of the 1990s. This manuscript had been kept there since 1933. Its author was stated as 'J. Cowley'. Whether indeed Cowley is the sole author of the whole text, cannot be asserted with certainty. However there are numerous indications that the manuscript was written in Cambridge, England . It seems certain that the list itself was written by Cowley, since many examples were given from his collection and the way the locations were cited. Presumably the manuscript was written together with the German veterinarian Paul Martin and his wife Margarita who lived in Lima. Martin was a very enthusiastic amateu r lepidopterologist who had set up a network of butterfly collectors in Peru. Insects other than Lepidoptera were passed on by Martin to specialists, dragonflies apparently mainly to Cowley, who named a species in honour of Martin.
