• Die Schatthangwälder und Felsvegetation im Alfelder Bergland stellen für Niedersachsen seltene Pflanzengesellschaften dar. Sie kommen innerhalb eines 30 km langen Streifens am nordostexponierten Stirnhang des untersuchten Höhenzuges im Bereich von Kalkklippen vor. Die klimatischen und edaphischen Bedingungen der absonnigen, steilen und basenreichen Hangschuttböden fördern die Ausbilddung edellaubholzreicher Wälder. Die Bestände gehören mehrheitlich zum Fraxino-Aceretum pseudo-platani (W. Koch 1926) em. Th. Müller 1966, das sich je nach Feuchtigkeitssituation und Skelettgehalt des Bodens in drei Subassoziationen unterteilen läßt. Als Kontaktvegetation finden sich Felsspaltenge­sellschaften der Potentilletalia caulescentis Br.-Bl. in Br.-Bl. et Jenny 1926. Vergleiche mit historischen Florenwerken weisen auf einen Verlust von Wuchsorten der untersuchten Vegetation hin.
• The ash-maple woodlands of shady slopes and their associated rock-crevice communities of the “Alfelder Bergland” (Alfeld Hills) represent plant communities rare for Lower Saxony. They occur on north-east facing scree slopes along a 30 km rocky limestone ridge. The climatic and edaphic conditions of the steep, shady, base-rich scree soils support the development of broadleaf-rich woodlands. The stands belong mostly to the Fraxino-Aceretum pseudoplatani (W. Koch 1926) em. Th. Müller 1966, which is classified into three subassociations according to the humidity of the site and the stoniness of the soil. Rock-crevice communities of the Potentilletalia caulescentis Br.-Bl. in Br.-Bl. et Jenny 1926 adjoin the woodlands. Historical comparisons indicate that a loss of sites has occurred.
