• Die außerhalb des Ruhrgebietes in Buchenwäldern Mitteleuropas auf Löß und lößähnlichen Böden weit verbreiteten Waldkräuter Anemone nemorosa und Polygonatum multiflorum sind im Ruhrgebiet in entsprechenden Wäldern nur äußerst selten und spärlich vertreten. Für alle dortigen Fundpunkte tref­fen eine oder mehrere der folgenden Standorteigenschaften zu: unter Eichen oder anderen mehr photosynthetisch aktive Strahlung als die Buche durchlassenden Bäumen gelegen; am Bestandesrand oder auf Lichtungen gelegen; zumindest temporär durch fließendes Wasser beeinflußt. Offensichtlich handelt es sich hierbei um eine Kompensation der im Ruhrgebiet aufgrund langjähri­ger Immissionseinwirkungen ungünstigen Bodenverhältnisse.
• Throughout most of Central Europe, Anemone nemorosa and Polygonatum multiflorum are charac­teristically found in the herbaceous ground layer of beech forests growing on loess or loess-like soils. However, in the Ruhr district, a region which formerly contained the highest concentration of mining and industrial activities in Europe and consequently had the worst air pollution, these plants are found only rarely, even in typical beech forests growing on loess and loess-like soils. The rare sites of Anemone nemorosa and Polygonatum multiflorum in the Ruhr district generally possess one or more of the following properties: location beneath oaks (or other tree species exhibiting a higher rate of PAR transmission than beech); location at the edge of forests or in clearings; location affected, at least temporarily, by running water. These factors obviously represent a compensation for the unfavorable soil conditions caused by the many years of exposure to environmental pollutants.
