The aim of the current study was to investigate the impact of leishmaniasis on the world's research output. The present study assessed benchmarking of research output for the period between 1957 and 2006. Using large database analyses, research in the field of leishmaniasis was evaluated. Furthermore, cooperation between different countries was identified. Results: The number of publications increased with time. Most publications came from Western countries such as the US, UK or Germany. Interestingly, countries like Brazil and India had a high research output. We found a substantial amount of cooperation between countries. Conclusion: Although leishmaniasis is of limited geographic distribution it attracts a wide research interest. The central hub of research cooperation is the USA. Und dies nicht im Nebenberuf, nicht zur interdisziplinären Ergänzung, sondern im Hauptgeschäft. Blumenbergs philosophische Erklärung des Mythos handelt nicht begrifflich abstrakt von ihrem Gegenstand, sie folgt vielmehr ganz den konkreten literarischen Überlieferungen und deren Darstellungsvielfalt. Begriffliche Orientierungen – grundsätzlich die, dass der Mythos menschliche Selbstbehauptung gegen Absolutismus der Wirklichkeit sei – werden gegeben, doch treten sie gegenüber dem Interesse am Stoffgeschichtlichen, an den literarischen Variationen etwa Prometheus-, der Odysseus- oder der Faust-Figur zurück. Damit vertritt und vollzieht Blumenberg den Primat der erzählenden Imaginationen vor jeder thematisch lehrhaften Zuordnung, den Primat der Geschichten vor dem, was religiöse, kosmologische, physikalische, moralische, historische, psychologische und andere Deutung aus ihren abstrahiert. „Komparatistik als Arbeit am Mythos“ kann also zur Beschreibung von Blumenbergs eigener Methode dienen, so wie umgekehrt seine Mythos-Philosophie der literaturwissenschaftlichen Beschäftigung mit den Mythen über alle stoffgeschichtliche Materialverwaltung hinaus eine eigene theoretische Dimension gibt. Sie wurde durch die politische Wende Anfang der neunziger Jahre nötig und zum Weimarer Kulturstadtjahr 1999 fertig und eröffnet (...) Daß es (...) Goethe-Nationalmuseum heißt und dennoch keinen Nationalgoethe, auch nicht nur Goethe, sondern einen kulturwissenschaftlichen Zusammenhang namens „Weimarer Klassik“ ausstellen will, ist gut und zeitgemäß. Die Frage ist nur, was den Zusammenhang stiftet, wenn es die eine große Person nicht mehr tut. Hier liegt ein Problem, vor dem die Ausstellung, so schön und gewitzt sie ist, kapituliert. Doch führt die Auseinandersetzung mit diesem Werk bei beiden zu gegensätzlichen Geschichtskonzepten. Es geht dabei um den Zusammenhang von Geschichte und System, den Herder im Widerspruch zu Winckelmann durch historische Objektivitätsillusion negiert und Schlegel in Übersteigerung der Winckelmannschen Ansprüche forciert. Daraus folgt beim jungen Schlegel die Überblendung von statisch taxonomischem und dynamischem Geschichtsmodell, die dann allerdings nicht von Schlegels eigenen Arbeiten zur Literaturgeschichte, sondern von der idealistischen Kunstphilosophie Schellings und Hegels fortgesetzt wird.
