The contribution deals with a selected lexical field related to the emotion 'anger'. It is treated from a German-Czech perspective and with respect to its underlying psychological aspects. It begins by investigating the nature of lexical fields, and explains the framework of the chosen field in terms of its content and form. On this basis the author tries to find an answer to the question whether this particular field can in fact be considered to be a lexical field. In conclusion the paper discusses the question of whether psychological findings on emotions generally, and on the emotion of 'anger' in particular, can be of help in establishing both an outer delimitation and an internal structuring of the field.
(2010)
(2011)
Using the example of Beate Teresa Hanika's debut novel 'Rotkäppchen muss weinen', the author demonstrates how the basic emotion of fear is manifested in literature for young people. The article presents both the ways in which this emotion is depicted explicitly and the ways in which it is implicitly thematized on several levels of language. In conclusion, drawing also on a previous study of the manifestation of fear in children’s literature, the author addresses the question of whether there are differences in the expression of fear depending on the age of the producers and/or receivers.
Ĉlánek popisuje lingvistické prostředky oznaĉující a popisující proţívání a emoce v němĉině. V první ĉásti jsou představeny konceptualizace proţívání a emocí, druhá ĉást popisuje detailně lingvistické prostředky. Poslední ĉást se zabývá některými problémy spojenými s vytvořením lexikonu emoĉních slov.
This paper compares Friedrich Dürrenmatt's drama script titled Besuch der alten Dame (The Visit, 1956) with the screenplay of the same name by Susanne Beck and Thomas Eifler (2008) with regard to emotionality in language. Due to the fact that the paper cannot focus on all aspects of emotionality, just one significant phenomenon will be addressed, namely certain features found in Dürrenmatt's text which are mostly lost in the screenplay and vice versa. The main focus is on the grotesque and absurdity on the one hand, and the text's closeness to reality and sentimentality on the other. The differences are illustrated using extracts from two selected scenes - the so-called Konradsweilerwald scene and the final scene. From the viewpoint of methodology, the linguistic text analysis of emotions will be used. Within the analysis, expression of emotions, description of emotions and evocation of emotions will be distinguished.
The bond of shame
(2010)
A long time ago I suddenly realized that the country one belongs to is not, as the usual rhetoric goes, the one you love but the one you are ashamed of. Shame can be a stronger bond than love. I repeatedly tested my discovery with friends from different countries: they all reacted the same way - with surprise immediately followed by full agreement, as if my suggestion was a self-evident truth. I am not claiming that the burden of shame is always the same; in fact, it varies immensely among countries. But the bond of shame - shame as a bond - invariably works, for a larger or smaller number of individuals. Aristotle listed "shame" ('aidos') among the passions, pointing out that "it is not a virtue" ('Nicomachaean Ethics' 1108 a 30-31). This definition still makes sense. Shame is definitely not a matter of choice: it falls upon us, invading us - our bodies, our feelings, our thoughts - as a sudden illness. It is a passion placed at the intersection between biology and history: the domain which Sigrid Weigel made so distinctively her own.
