N2  - In diesem Beitrag wird ein Aufzeichnungsbuch aus der Großstadt, der Prosaband "Die Kurve" (1920) von Elisabeth Janstein (1891-1944), einer bis heute ziemlich unbekannten Autorin aus dem Umfeld des sogenannten Prager Kreises, mit dem für die Gattung vorbildhaften "Spleen de Paris" von Charles Baudelaire (1869) und einigen motivverwandten, teils auch auf Baudelaire beziehbaren Texten von Rilke in Verbindung gebracht. Als weiterer Bezugspunkt dient das Tagebuch der Russin Maria Bashkirtseff (1898). Auf die Großstadtthematik lassen sich dabei verschiedene Aspekte der Antithese von Zentrum und Peripherie projizieren, die anscheinend transkulturell verbreitet sind: die Gegensätze von moderner Zivilisation und einfachem Leben; Armut und Reichtum; Drogen, Künstlertum und Alltagsleben.
N2  - This article places the volume "Die Kurve" (1920) by Elisabeth Janstein (1891-1944), a collection of short poems in prose, in a transcultural context which might be suggested by its genre. Janstein is until nowadays a relatively little known writer and journalist from the so-called Prague circle, and her short notes about life in large cities at about 1910 may be traced back to the "spleen de Paris" (1869) by Charles Baudelaire, who created and introduced that new genre of "petites poèmes en prose", and to some works by Rilke. As another possibly related text will be cited the "journal" by the Russian artist Maria Bashkirtseff which has been published posthumously in French (1898). The sujet of life in large cities suggests several aspects of the antithesis of centre and periphery, such as civilised versus natural life style, poverty versus richness, drugs and artistic creativity versus everyday life. These oppositions are shown to appear across cultural borders in the chosen sample of texts.
