N2  - Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht die Motivation des Wechsels von der Lyrik zur Prosa im Frühwerk von Thomas Bernhard und bemüht sich zu zeigen, wie sich die 'neue' Gattung als Experimentierraum sprachlicher Konstruierbarkeit einer literarischen Wirklichkeit und die Existenzialphilosophie als neues Ausdrucksmittel des leidenden Subjekts erweist. Beide bilden die Voraussetzungen für den neuen Bernhard'schen Ton, der sich im Roman 'Frost' (1963) zum ersten Mal zeigt. Das Experimentelle im Romanerstling Bernhards ist soziologisch motiviert und äußert sich sowohl erzähltechnisch als auch konzeptuell in der 'experimentellen Sprache' des Malers Strauch.
N2  - This study analyzes the motivation behind the change from poetry to prose in the early work of Thomas Bernhard. It attempts to establish the 'new' form as an experimental space for linguistic constructability of a literary reality and existential philosophy and as a new means of expression of the suffering subject. Both are prerequisites for the new tone in Bernhard's work, which first becomes apparent in the novel 'Frost' (1963). The sociologically motivated experimental form in Bernhard's first novel manifests itself in terms of narrative technique and concept in the 'experimental language' of the protagonist "Maler Strauch".
