N2  - This article examines the use of the standard German language in German speaking Switzerland with focus on the spoken language. It brings to attention sociolinguistic concepts of the Swiss language environment and the role of the standard German language in Switzerland. The goal of the article is to evaluate the role of the standard German language in German speaking Switzerland on the base of theoretical assumptions and empirical research. The article presents the results of an analysis which was performed on the examples of TV broadcast of the Swiss television.
