N2  - Das Interesse der Altgermanistik an der deutschen Glossierung lateinischer Texte verteilt sich sehr ungleich auf die Quellen. Auf der einen Seite gilt den althochdeutschen Glossen seit dem 19. Jahrhundert kontinuierliche Aufmerksamkeit, die sie als sprachgeschichtlich kostbares Quellenmaterial in ansonsten dürftiger Zeit auf sich ziehen wie literarhistorisch als Quellentyp, an dem sich die Anfange der deutschen Sprache auf ihrem Weg in Schriftlichkeit und Literaturfahigkeit verfolgen lassen. Weithin unerschlossen präsentieren sich dagegen die spätmittelalterlichen Glossenbestände, und kaum ein Interesse des Faches zeichnet sich ab, an diesem Zustand etwas zu ändern.
N2  - The supposedly ubiquitous textual type of the "interlinear gloss" is, as a survey of the changing forms of its transmission in the context of instruction in late-medieval schools shows, bound up with the development of institutions and the expansion of a written culture. This connection is demonstrated particularly in the form of the "word-for-word translation", a type redefined as an aggregate form, based on Latin models, of an apparatus of glosses intended for dictation. On the one hand this renders visible a specifically latemedieval, more comprehensive unity of the "text" composed of glosses conceived of initialiy as written, then put into oral form and finally fixed in interlinear form; on the other hand it also renders visible the specific achievements of printing. By freeing instruction from the task of copying down glossed textbooks from dictation, printing separates the production, distribution and reception of glosses and liberates the writing of glosses for use as a teaching tool within instruction proper.
