N2  - Spannung wird in dem Beitrag konsequent als psychisches Phänomen, nicht als Texteigenschaft aufgefasst. Ausgehend von psychophysischen Erscheinungen, die für das Alltagskonzept 'Spannung' als prototypisch gelten können, wird die Menge möglicher spannungserzeugender Emotionen in einem ersten Anlauf auf die Gruppe der Stressemotionen eingegrenzt. An diesem Beispiel wird sodann die Notwendigkeit einer Unterscheidung von situations- und figurenbezogenen Spannungswirkungen demonstriert. Anschließend wird das Problem dominant kognitiver Spannungserzeugung – des in der Literaturwissenschaft bislang am intensivsten erforschten Aspekts von 'Spannung' – aufgegriffen und mit Hilfe des gestalttheoretischen 'Zeigarnik-Effekts' reformuliert. Zum Schluss wird unter dem Begriff der Planungsemotionen eine dritte Möglichkeit spannungserzeugender Leseremotionen vorgestellt und präzisiert.
N2  - In this essay, tension/suspense is consistently understood as a psychic phenomenon, not as a textual property. Refering to psycho-physiological appearances that can be regarded as proto-typical for the folk concept of 'tension', the range of possibly tension-provoking emotions is narrowed down, in a first step, to emotions of stress. By this example, I demonstrate the necessity of distinguishing tension responses triggered by fictional situations from those triggered by fictional characters. I then pick up the problem of mainly cognitively provoked tension – so far the most deeply explored aspect of tension/suspense in literary studies – and reconceptualize it with the aid of the 'Zeigarnik effect' from gestalt theory. I conclude with presenting and specifying, under the concept of 'planning emotions', a third category of tension-provoking reader emotions.
