N2  - Mittels pflanzensoziologischer, biometrischer und ökologischer Verfahren sollen mögliche Koinzidenzen zwischen Luftverunreinigungen aus Verbrennungsmotoren und Vegetationsschäden im Frankfurter Stadtwald aufgezeigt werden. Hierbei wird angestrebt, die Ergebnisse der ökologisch-vegetationskundlichen Untersuchungen im Rahmen einer Verbundforschung mit luftchemischen Befunden korrelieren zu können. Es wurde ein Vitalitätsquotient entwickelt, der die Schadensbeurteilung unbelaubter Wipfeltriebe von Rotbuchen am lebenden Baum anhand einer kontinuierlichen Skala erlaubt, wobei fotografische Aufnahmen als Grundlage der Berechnung dienten. Auf vier Transekten wurden Schwermetallgehalte untersucht.
N2  - The effect of pollution caused by internal combustion engines on the environment and vegetation in Frankfurt's forest. - Using biometric methods, ecological methods and methods of plant sociology, attempts were made to demonstrate possible connections between pollution levels in the air caused by internal combustion engines and the damage sustained by the vegetation in Frankfurt's forest. Efforts were made to correlate the results of the tests carried out on the environment and vegetation within the framework of integrated research with the results of tests carried out to establish the chemical construction of the air. A vitality quotient was developed, making it possible to assess on a continuous scale the extent of the damage sustained by the bare shoots on the tops of living beeches. Photographs were used as the basis of assessment. The heavy metal content of four transections was examined.
