N2  - Floristic communities from the alluvial floodplains and near-alluvial plains of the lower Dawson River, mideastern Queensland, are described from near-intact sites. Three broad and ten detailed floristic groups were defined. Differences in community composition appeared related to soil type, localised disturbance and latitude. Weeds comprised a small proportion of the total flora, although they presently dominate some areas. Grasses were the main exotic species present, and appeared to have increased within the last forty years.
