N2  - This volume of studies goes back to research work that was carried out as part of a long-standing project, Deutscher Familiennamenatlas (DFA). The DFA and the individual studies record the family names in Germany and the border areas for the first time on the basis of telephone connections (as of 2005) and with a rich map material. The considerations on selected family names gathered here are preliminary studies of the DFA, which are dedicated to family names on -mann.
