N2  - Im atlantischen und in zentralen Teil Mitteleuropas erweisen sich Plantago major, Poa annua, Polygonum arenastrum und Matricaria discoidea als der Kern der Gruppe der Trittpflanzengesellschaften. Die Zusammenfassung aller Gesellschaften, in denen eine oder mehrere dieser Arten gemeinsam dominie­ren, zu einer Klasse, nämlich den Plantaginetea majoris, ist unter den zahlreichen momentan in der Lite­ratur verwirklichten Wegen der Syntaxonomie der Trittpflanzengesellschaften derjenige, der am besten sowohl mit der Lehre der Charakterarten nach BRAUN-BLANQUET als auch mit den Gegebenheiten im Gelände übereinstimmt und zudem keinerlei logische Widersprüche in sich aufweist. Die Tatsache, daß Plantago major im kontinentalen Bereich Mitteleuropas und im übrigen Gebiet lokal an Trockenstandorten gegenüber den einjährigen Arten zurücktritt, spricht nicht gegen eine solche Lösung. Das Zentrum der Klasse der Trittpflanzengesellschaften muß nämlich dort liegen, wo Tritt der entscheidende, möglichst sogar der alleinige Auslesefaktor ist, und nicht dort, wo länger andauernde Phasen von Trockenheit als weiterer Auslesefaktor hinzukommen.
N2  - In the middle of Central Europe and in its western parts along the Atlantic, Plantago major, Poa annna, Polygonum arena strum and Matricaria discoidea have proved to be the core species of the group of plant communities resulting from trampling. Out of the numerous routes currently taken in the lite­rature to the syntaxonomy of trampled plant communities, the grouping of all the plant communities in which one or more of these species dominates into a class, the Plantagineta majoris, is the way most congruent with the theory of character species developed by BRAUN-BLANQUET and with conditi­ons in the field. Moreover, this method contains no logical contradictions. The fact that Plantago major is yielding to annual species everywhere in continental Central Europe and at dry locations in the rest of Central Europe does not preclude such a solution. The center of the class of trampled plant communi­ties must be situated in regions where trampling is the decisive - and in the best case the only - selection factor and not in regions where longer dry periods constitute an additional selection factor.
