• In dieser Arbeit werden vorwiegend taxonomische und nomenklatorische Angaben zu Cryptini und in einem Fall auch zu Phygadeuontini gemacht. Aus der Westpaläarktis sind derzeit etwa 35 Gattungen von Cryptini bekannt. Einige davon wurden in den letzten Jahrzehnten bereits revidiert (z.B. HORSTMANN 1984, 1987, 1990a, VAN ROSSEM 1966, 1969a, 1969b, 1971, SCHWARZ 1988, 1989, 1990a, 1990b, 1997). Inzwischen konnte weiteres Material untersucht werden, wodurch in einigen Fällen neue Erkenntnisse gewonnen werden konnten. In dieser Arbeit werden vor allem Ergänzungen von Revisionen westpaläarktischer Cryptini gemacht. In einigen Fällen erstrecken sich die Angaben auch auf andere Gebiete (Ostpaläarktis, Orientalis, Äthiopis), Zusätzlich werden Ergebnisse von Typenuntersuchungen angeführt. Bei den untersuchten Typen werden wahlweise die genauen Angaben auf den Etiketten wiedergegeben oder, wenn diese in anderen neueren Publikationen erwähnt sind, weggelassen. Nach den Angaben zum Typus bzw. zu den Funddaten bei zusätzlichem Material wird jeweils der Aufbewahrungsort angegeben. Die Reihung der hier behandelten Gattungen und Arten erfolgt alphabetisch. Bei der Auflistung des untersuchten Materials werden entweder die genauen Funddaten, besonders bei Material außerhalb von Europa, oder nur die Länder aufgelistet. Inseln werden, da tiergeografisch besonders interessant, gesondert angeführt.
• Keys to the western Palaearctic species and subspecies of Acroricnus (females and males), to the western Palaearctic species of the Aritranis nigripes species group (females and males), to the European and Asian species of Hidryta (females and males), to the European and Asian species of Idiolispa without white markings on the hind tergites of gaster (males), to the Palaearctic species and subspecies of Meringopus with widened middle tarsus (females), to the Palaearctic species and subspecies of Meringopus with ventrally widened hind femur (males), to the world species of Pycnocryptodes (males) and to the world species of Sphecoctonus (females and males) are given. The genus Diaglyptellana HORSTMANN 1976 proved to be a junior synonym of Grasseiteles AUBERT 1965 (syn. nov.). The following new species are described: Aritranis sardiniensis nova spec., Aritranis regalis nova spec., Hidryta intemptata nova spec., Idiolispa bannapeensis nova spec., Sphecoctonus pharius nova spec. and Synechocryptus subtegularis nova spec. Lectotypes of Aritranis confusator AUBERT 1968, Cryptus explorator TSCHEK 1871, Cryptus fuscicornis TSCHEK 1871, Agrothereutes (Gambrus) ornatulus meridionator AUBERT 1965, Hoplocryptus rubi HABERMEHL 1919, Aritranis rufosignator AUBERT 1970, Cryptus (Meringopus) palmipes KOKUJEV 1905, Mesostenus transsylvanicus KISS 1929 and Cryptus varians TASCHENBERG 1865 are designated. Cryptus rhodius DALLA TORRE 1902 is treated as a subspecies of Meringopus titillator (LINNAEUS) (stat. nov.) and Meringopus naitor persicator AUBERT 1986 is given species rank (stat. nov.). However, the taxa treated in this paper as subspecies of Meringopus titillator (LINNAEUS) and M. calescenes (GRAVENHORST), respectively, could prove to be separate species in the future. Osprynchotus elegans MOCSÁRY 1883 and Osprynchotus syriacus MOCSÁRY 1883 are treated as subspecies of Acroricnus seductor (SCOPOLI 1786) (stat. nov.). Grasseiteles opaculus (THOMSON 1884), Grasseiteles punctus (HOLMGREN 1857) and Meringopus pamirensis (MALJAVIN 1965) are new introduced combinations. Cryptus ornatus GRAVENHORST 1829 is removed from synonymy with Gambrus incubitor (LINNAEUS 1758), and the characters separating these two closely related species of Gambrus are listed in a key. Cryptus simplex TSCHEK 1871 is removed from synonymy with Idiolispa analis analis (GRAVENHORST). The generic placement of Cryptus simplex TSCHEK 1871, a species which is more or less intermediate between Idiolispa and Hidryta, is discussed, and the hitherto unknown female is described. However, this species seems to be a little closer to Hidryta and therefore it is placed in the latter genus. Hidryta atlantica HORSTMANN 1990 is very similar to H. sordida (TSCHEK 1871), and the first could be a junior synonym of the latter species. H. pardosae NISHIDA 1982 described from Japan resembles H. fusiventris (THOMSON 1873) and might be an eastern Asian form of H. fusiventris (THOMSON 1873). A description is given for the previously unknown male of Pycnocryptodes crenulatus (BRAUNS 1896). Sphecoctonus is recorded for the first time from the Palaearctic region. The data of investigated specimens of several species and subspecies are listed.
