• In seinen theoretischen Schriften beschreibt Dürrenmatt die Welt als undurchschaubar und daher die herkömmlichen Formen des Dramas als nicht länger angebracht. Der Aufsatz konfrontiert Dürrenmatts Skepsis mit Brechts marxistischem Realismus. Während Brecht die Welt als eine Beziehung von Kausalitäten sieht, stellt Dürrenmatt Realität und fiktionale Gegenrealität einander gegenüber. Seine Definition des Grotesken als zentrales Element der Komödie spielt dabei eine entscheidende Rolle. Die Analyse der Ahistorizität der Helden in "Romulus der Große" und deren Art historische Prozesse zu unterwandern etabliert das Groteske als einzig angebrachte Form, die Gegenwart darzustellen.
• In his theoretical writings Friedrich Dürrenmatt describes the world as opaque and, henceforth, the traditional forms of theater such as the tragedy as inappropriate. The analysis opposes Dürrenmatt´s skepticism to Brecht´s marxist realism. While Brecht views reality as a process of cause and effect, Dürrenmatt juxtaposes reality and fictitious contra-reality. His definition of the grotesque as the central element of comedy calls particular attention. The discussion of the ahistoricity of the heroes in "Romulus der Große" and their way of refuting historical processes establishes the grotesque as the only appropriate form to narrate the present.
• En sus escritos teóricos, Friedrich Dürrenmatt describe el mundo como opaco y, por lo tanto, las formas tradicionales del drama como inadecuadas para representar el mundo. Este análisis opone el escepticismo de Dürrenmatt al realismo marxista de Brecht. Al contrario de Brecht que percibe la realidad como un proceso de causa y efecto, Dürrenmatt contrapone la realidad a la realidad-ficción. La definición de lo grotesco como elemento central de la comedia merece una atención particular. La ahistoricidad de los héroes en Romulus der Große y sus maneras de refutar la historia establece lo grotesco como la única forma adecuada de narrar el presente.
