Jahrhunderts wurde ein umfassender Wandel im Bereich des Stilverständnisses konstatiert, das ab 1750 von zwei gegensätzlichen Stilbegriffen geprägt ist: einem traditionell rhetorischen einerseits und einem sich neu etablierenden Individualstil andererseits. Der Beitrag versucht, mit einem Schlaglicht auf das Frühwerk Johann Georg Hamanns ("Sokratische Denkwürdigkeiten" und "Wolken") diesen für das Verständnis der stilgeschichtlichen Umbrüche zentralen Autor im skizzierten Diskursfeld zu verorten. Ein näherer Blick auf Hamanns sokratische Schreibart erlaubt es, die geläufige Rollenzuschreibung, die in Hamann vor allem einen Wegbereiter des Individualstils erkennt, zu problematisieren und ein Paradox herauszuarbeiten: Die Entwicklung zum Individualstil beginnt im Falle von Hamanns ironisch verstellter Maskenrede mit einer radikalen Depotenzierung der Autorinstanz.
N2  - A comprehensive change in the conception of style has been observed in the middle of the eighteenth century, characterised from 1750 onwards by two opposing concepts of style: a traditional rhetorical style on the one hand and a newly established individual style on the other. This article attempts to shine a light on the early work of Johann Georg Hamann ("Sokratische Denkwürdigkeiten" and "Wolken") in order to situate this author, who is central to an understanding of the stylistic upheavals, in the discursive field. A closer look at Hamann's Socratic style of writing leads to a questioning of the common view that Hamann was above all a pioneer of the individual style, and also presents us with a paradox: the development towards a notion of individual style begins in the case of Hamann's ironically disguised masked speech with a radical reduction of the author's authority.
