N2  - The analysis here given of the short passage from Vitruvius’ treatise (VI. praef. 1), which narrates an edifying story about philosopher Aristippus and at the same time harbours meaningful plastic symbolical imagery, permits to state that the statuary principle determining the most various manifestations played its decisive part also in forming this little narrative.
