• Im Jahr 1993 wurden sechs Dörfer beiderseits der ehemaligen innerdeutschen Grenze untersucht um festzustellen, wie sich die Sozialstruktur und die naturräumliche Lage auf die spontane Siedlungsvegetati­on auswirken. Jedem Dorf in Nordbayern steht ein vergleichbares in Südthüringen gegenüber. Die Dorf­paare repräsentieren drei Dorftypen: Agrardörfer der Hochlagen, ehemals agrarisch geprägte Dörfer tiefe­rer Lagen und Industriedörfer. Nach einer Nutzungskartierung wurden die Pflanzengesellschaften und die Vegetationskomplexe erfaßt. Kenngesellschaften der Industriedörfer sind das Conyzo-Lactucetum serriolae und die Poa compressa-Gesellschaft, solche der Agrardörfer das Urtico-Malvetum neglectae, das Chenopodietum boni-henrici und das Chaerophylletum aurei. Eine Differentialgesellschaft der Hochlagendörfer ist das Geranio-Trisetetum flavescentis. In Dörfern der ehemaligen DDR sind Artemisia vulgaris-Gesellschaften häufig. Die Vegetationskomplexe (=VK) spiegeln neben der Dorfstruktur auch die naturräumliche Lage wi­der. Nutzungsvielfalt und Nutzungswandel rufen auch Vielfalt der Vegetation hervor. Neben einem VK von Schotterflächen (v.a. in Industriedörfern) und einem VK nasser Standorte (in den Tieflagendörfern) sind überall VK land- und gartenwirtschaftlicher Nutzung verbreitet, in den thüringer Dörfern wegen der geringeren Pflegeintensität häufig in einer gebüschreichen Variante. In den bayerischen Dörfern sind fragmentarische Ausbildungen häufiger.
• In 1993, six villages on both sides of the former intra-German borderline were chosen in order to see, how the spontaneous vegetation is influenced by social structure and natural environment. The comparative studies were carried out in three pairs of villages in the Thuringio-Franconian mountains, each pair having one village in former East Germany, the other in West Germany (Fig. 1). These represent the most common village types: agricultural villages in mountainous areas, villages with former agricultural land use in lower regions, and industrial villages in deeply incised valleys. The plant communities and the vegetation complexes (Tab. 5 to 7) have been investigated after land use mapping. The industrial villages are characterized by the Conyzo-Lactucetum serriolae and the Poa compressa-community; the agricultural villages by the Urtico-Malvetum neglectae, the Chenopodietum boni-henrici and the Chaerophylletum aurei; the villages of the former GDR by Artemisia vulgaris-communities, the mountainous villages by the Geranio-Trisetetum flavescentis. The village vegetation is more differenciated by social and architectural structure than by the natural environment. A great variety of plot use and also changing land use results in a high diversity of vegetation types. We find a vegetation complex on gravel sites in the industrial villages, a wetland complex in the low land villages and an agricultural and horticultural complex in all the villages. The vegetation of the Ba­varian villages is impoverished compared to the Thuringian ones.
