The problem of unconstrained or constrained optimization occurs in many branches of mathematics and various fields of application. It is, however, an NP-hard problem in general. In this thesis, we examine an approximation approach based on the class of SAGE exponentials, which are nonnegative exponential sums. We examine this SAGE-cone, its geometry, and generalizations. The thesis consists of three main parts:
1. In the first part, we focus purely on the cone of sums of globally nonnegative exponential sums with at most one negative term, the SAGE-cone. We ex- amine the duality theory, extreme rays of the cone, and provide two efficient optimization approaches over the SAGE-cone and its dual.
2. In the second part, we introduce and study the so-called S-cone, which pro- vides a uniform framework for SAGE exponentials and SONC polynomials. In particular, we focus on second-order representations of the S-cone and its dual using extremality results from the first part.
3. In the third and last part of this thesis, we turn towards examining the con- ditional SAGE-cone. We develop a notion of sublinear circuits leading to new duality results and a partial characterization of extremality. In the case of poly- hedral constraint sets, this examination is simplified and allows us to classify sublinear circuits and extremality for some cases completely. For constraint sets with certain conditions such as sets with symmetries, conic, or polyhedral sets, various optimization and representation results from the unconstrained setting can be applied to the constrained case.
Measurement of iodine species and sulfuric acid using bromide chemical ionization mass spectrometers

Iodine species are important in the marine atmosphere for oxidation and new-particle formation. Understanding iodine chemistry and iodine new-particle formation requires high time resolution, high sensitivity, and simultaneous measurements of many iodine species. Here, we describe the application of a bromide chemical ionization mass spectrometer (Br-CIMS) to this task. During the iodine oxidation experiments in the Cosmics Leaving OUtdoor Droplets (CLOUD) chamber, we have measured gas-phase iodine species and sulfuric acid using two Br-CIMS, one coupled to a Multi-scheme chemical IONization inlet (Br-MION-CIMS) and the other to a Filter Inlet for Gasses and AEROsols inlet (Br-FIGAERO-CIMS). From offline calibrations and intercomparisons with other instruments, we have quantified the sensitivities of the Br-MION-CIMS to HOI, I2, and H2SO4 and obtained detection limits of 5.8 × 106, 3.8 × 105, and 2.0 × 105 molec. cm−3, respectively, for a 2 min integration time. From binding energy calculations, we estimate the detection limit for HIO3 to be 1.2 × 105 molec. cm−3, based on an assumption of maximum sensitivity. Detection limits in the Br-FIGAERO-CIMS are around 1 order of magnitude higher than those in the Br-MION-CIMS; for example, the detection limits for HOI and HIO3 are 3.3 × 107 and 5.1 × 106 molec. cm−3, respectively. Our comparisons of the performance of the MION inlet and the FIGAERO inlet show that bromide chemical ionization mass spectrometers using either atmospheric pressure or reduced pressure interfaces are well-matched to measuring iodine species and sulfuric acid in marine environments.
Allomyia renoa (Milne, 1935) (Trichoptera: Apataniidae) was described from six females. The male association is verified in this paper. The original type locality information is limited: “Reno, Nev.,‘78, Morrison”. An Allomyia Banks population found at Mount Rose in Washoe County, Nevada, was compared to the A. renoa type material and found to be the conspecific. Figures, descriptions and distribution of male, female, pupal and larval A. renoa are provided.

Die Diskussion im English Theatre Frankfurt wurde von Oberstufenschülerinnen und – schülern der Dreieichschule aus Langen analysiert, visualisiert und laufend mit Fragen ergänzt.
En este trabajo se describe una nueva especie de Richardia Robineau-Desvoidy (Diptera: Tephritoidea: Richardiidae), R. chocoensis Constantino, con proyecciones a los lados de la cabeza de forma tubular donde se sitúan los ojos compuestos al final de éstos y con una banda macular característica en las alas que la diferencia de otras especies similares. Adicionalmente se reporta por primera vez a Plagiocephalus latifrons Wiedemann (Diptera: Tephritoidea: Ulidiidae) para el occidente de Colombia. Ambas especies fueron colectadas en las selvas lluviosas de la región biogeográfica del Chocó, en la Costa Pacífica de Colombia.
Purpose: To evaluate the impact of testing asymptomatic cancer patients, we analyzed all tests for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) before and during radiotherapy at a tertiary cancer center throughout the second wave of the pandemic in Germany. Methods: Results of all real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests for SARS-CoV 2 performed at our radio-oncology department between 13 October 2020 and 11 March 2021 were included. Clinical data and anamnestic information at the time of testing were documented and examined for (i) the presence of COVID-19-related symptoms and (ii) virus-related anamnesis (high-risk [prior positive test or contact to a positive tested person within the last 14 days] or low-risk [inconspicuous anamnesis within the last 14 days]). Results: A total of 1056 SARS-CoV 2 tests in 543 patients were analyzed. Of those, 1015 tests were performed in asymptomatic patients and 41 tests in patients with COVID-19-associated symptoms. Two of 940 (0.2%) tests in asymptomatic patients with low-risk anamnesis and three of 75 (4.0%) tests in asymptomatic patients with high-risk anamnesis showed a positive result. For symptomatic patients, SARS-CoV 2 was detected in three of 36 (8.3%) low-risk and three of five (60.0%) high-risk tests. Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study evaluating the correlation between individual risk factors and positivity rates of SARS-CoV 2 tests in cancer patients. The data demonstrate that clinical and anamnestic assessment is a simple and effective measure to distinctly increase SARS-CoV 2 test efficiency. This might enable cancer centers to adjust test strategies in asymptomatic patients, especially when test resources are scarce.
Of the 16 non-structural proteins (Nsps) encoded by SARS CoV-2, Nsp3 is the largest and plays important roles in the viral life cycle. Being a large, multidomain, transmembrane protein, Nsp3 has been the most challenging Nsp to characterize. Encoded within Nsp3 is the papain-like protease domain (PLpro) that cleaves not only the viral polypeptide but also K48-linked polyubiquitin and the ubiquitin-like modifier, ISG15, from host cell proteins. We here compare the interactors of PLpro and Nsp3 and find a largely overlapping interactome. Intriguingly, we find that near full length Nsp3 is a more active protease compared to the minimal catalytic domain of PLpro. Using a MALDI-TOF based assay, we screen 1971 approved clinical compounds and identify five compounds that inhibit PLpro with IC50s in the low micromolar range but showed cross reactivity with other human deubiquitinases and had no significant antiviral activity in cellular SARS-CoV-2 infection assays. We therefore looked for alternative methods to block PLpro activity and engineered competitive nanobodies that bind to PLpro at the substrate binding site with nanomolar affinity thus inhibiting the enzyme. Our work highlights the importance of studying Nsp3 and provides tools and valuable insights to investigate Nsp3 biology during the viral infection cycle.
Two new congeneric species endemic to Fiji are introduced: Nesobasis martina sp. nov. [holotype female, Viti Levu Is] and N. monika sp. nov. [holotype male, Taveuni Is]. The species are placed in the comosa- and erythrops-groups respectively (grouping following Donnelly 1990). Diagnostic features are proposed, but not discussed. Further discussion is left for an ongoing revision of the genus (Donnelly & Marinov in prep. ). The new species reported here are introduced ahead of this revision in a study which was made possible due to the International Dragonfly Fund (IDF) offering the opportunity to pick a new species' name for a donation.

Commercialization of consumers’ personal data in the digital economy poses serious, both conceptual and practical, challenges to the traditional approach of European Union (EU) Consumer Law. This article argues that mass-spread, automated, algorithmic decision-making casts doubt on the foundational paradigm of EU consumer law: consent and autonomy. Moreover, it poses threats of discrimination and under- mining of consumer privacy. It is argued that the recent legislative reaction by the EU Commission, in the form of the ‘New Deal for Consumers’, was a step in the right direction, but fell short due to its continued reliance on consent, autonomy and failure to adequately protect consumers from indirect discrimination. It is posited that a focus on creating a contracting landscape where the consumer may be properly informed in material respects is required, which in turn necessitates blending the approaches of competition, consumer protection and data protection laws.
