This checklist provides in addition to a list of mosses and hepatics, a key to the species. We report 17 moss species of which 9 are new to Mona Island and 3 are new records for Puerto Rico (Fissidens minutus, Plaubelia sprengelii and Brymela callicostelloides). This report represents a 35% increase to the moss flora of Mona Island. Thirteen hepatics are reported of which 8 are new records, representing an increase of 31%. Two new synonyms (Bryum microdecurrens = Bryum coronatum, Riccia brittonii = Riccia elliottii) are included. No hornworts are known for the island.
R.M.Schust., C. comans (Spruce) R.M.Schust., C. oncophylla (Ångstr.) Grolle & Reiner, C. rigidula (Nees ex Mont.) R.M.Schust., C. trifaria (Reinw., Blume & Nees) Mizut. y Lepidolejeunea involuta (Gottsche) Grolle.
A new species of Cololejeunea section Protocolea, is described from Cerro Fábrega in Panama. The diagnostic characteristics of C. tixierii are lobes ovate-lanceolate, lobules never inflate but explanate or folded without forming a keel, reaching about half of the lobe length and perianth only faintly keeled at maturity.
Four species of Streptopogon are new to Argentina. The Bolivian S. heterophyllus, the only species previously registered is excluded from the Argentinian flora, and a major range extension of the Mexican S. matudianus is presented. Treatment of all four taxa includes descriptions, illustrations and SEM micrographs of sporophytic characters.
Taxones nuevos para Macaronesia son Arthonia vinosa, Arthopyrenia cinereopruinosa, Bacidina egenula, B. phacodes, Gyalecta truncigena, Lauderlindsaya acroglypta, Lecidea botryosa, L. erythrophaea, Lecidella achristotera, Lichinodium ahlneri, Ochrolechia arborea, Opegrapha vermicellifera, Pertusaria amara var. slevicensis, Pseudevernia furfuracea var. ceratea, Pseudosagedia obsoleta, Strigula smaragdula y S. taylorii. Para las Islas Canarias aparecen las siguientes nuevas citas Arthonia anglica, Arthothelium norvegicum, Blarneya hibernica, Calicium lenticulare, Catinaria montana, Haematomma sorediatum, Hypotrachyna taylorensis, Lecanora argentata, L. strobilina, Melaspilea diplasiospora, Micarea melaena, Ochrolechia androgyna, Pertusaria ophthalmiza, Psoroglaena stigonemoides, Pyrenula dermatodes, Scoliciosporum pruinosum, y Trapeliopsis granulosa.
Dichodontium pellucidum (Hedw.) Schimp. wird lektotypifiziert.
The caatinga is a deciduous and xerophilous vegetation that covers large areas in Brazil. An irregular rainfall with a marked dry period is a characteristic feature. This paper represents the first contribution to the knowledge of the bryoflora from caatinga vegetation in the State of Bahia. The survey was carried out in several areas from Bahia in which eigthteen species of bryophytes were found (15 mosses and 3 liverworts). The bryoflora from caatinga is composed mainly of generalists and xerophilous taxa, but even some hygrophilous species can be found. A number of species including Hyophiladelphus agrarius, Hyophila involuta, Calymperes palisotii ssp. richardii, Bryum argenteum, Entodontopsis leucostega, Octoblepharum albidum, Frullania ericoides also occur in other vegetation types. However, there are a number of species restricted to this type of vegetation, such as Helicophyllum torquatum and Riccia vitalii, at least in Bahia. Most moss species were acrocarpous with erect and short (short-turf) growth-form, whereas the foliose hepaticae were of incubous, and thallose forms.
Several lichen species are reported from the first time from New Guinea, based on material collected by the author in 1995. The following new taxa are described: Crustospathula cartilaginea gen. et spec. nov., Pseudopyrenula serusiauxii spec. nov. and Trypethelium galligenum spec. nov. Psoroma papuana Aptroot & Diederich nom. nov. is proposed as new name for Psoroma pannarioides Aptroot & Diederich.
