In 1912 and 1913, the Neohellenic theatre festivals of the experimental stage in Hellerau become a meeting point of the Europeen avant-gardes. The musical stage reform of Appia and Jaques-Dalcroze was a decisive for the evolution of modern drama and dance. It is, however, hardly compatible with conservative concepts of poetry, which is shown by Claudels production of his mystery play Verkündigung (L' Annonce faite à Marie) in Hellerau and by Rilke's criticism.
