Standardisierung ist der bedeutendste Ansatz zu Qualitätssteigerung und Kostensenkung in der Technischen Dokumentation. Es gibt eine Reihe von Standardisierungsansätzen: Modularisierung, Informationsstrukturen, Terminologie, Sprachstrukturen. Dennoch werden diese Ebenen meist getrennt voneinander beschrieben. Wir untersuchen, wie Standardisierungen im Informationsmodell, in der Terminologie und in den sprachlichen Strukturen verknüpft werden und miteinander interagieren.
Beam test of the direct plasma injection scheme (DPIS) is carried out successfully for the first time in China, by setting up a comprehensive test and research platform of RFQ and laser ion source. The C6+ beam is accelerated successfully, and the peak beam current reaches more than 6mA which is measured by a Faraday cup of unique structure. The RF power coupled into the RFQ cavity is also examined, and results reveal that it is the RF power of about 195kW that can produce the peak beam current.
As the successor of the EUROTRANS project, the MAX project is aiming to continue the R&D effects for a European Accelerator-Driven System and to bring the conceptual design to reality. The layout of the driver linac for MAX will follow the reference design made for the XT-ADS phase of the EUROTRANS project. For the injector part, new design strategies and approaches, e.g. half resonant frequency, half transition-energy between the RFQ and the CH-DTL, and using the 4-rod RFQ structure instead of the originally proposed 4-vane RFQ, have been conceived and studied to reach a more reliable CW operation at reduced costs. In this paper, the design and simulation results of the MAX injector are presented.
Am 27. Juni 2011 fand im Institut für Stadtgeschichte Frankfurt/Main eine Podiumsdiskussion zum Thema "Die Archive und die historische Forschung" statt. Etwa 35 Interessierte folgten dieser Diskussion, die vom Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen und dem VdA – Verband deutscher Archivarinnen und Archivare e. V. veranstaltet wurde.
Zu Beginn stellte die Leiterin des Instituts für Stadtgeschichte, Evelyn Brockhoff, ihre Einrichtung vor und nannte dabei auch die Angebote für Wissenschaftler. Es folgte die eigentliche Diskussion, an der zwei Vertreter der Geschichtswissenschaft – CHRISTOPH CORNELIßEN (Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel) und DIRK VAN LAAK (Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen) – und zwei Vertreter des Archivwesens – CLEMENS REHM (Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg/VdA) und WILFRIED REININGHAUS (Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen) – unter der Moderation von ANDREAS PILGER (Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen) teilnahmen. ...
Nosocomial infectious diseases (e.g. influenza, pertussis) are a threat particularly for immunocompromised and vulnerable patients. Although vaccination of healthcare workers (HCWs) constitutes the most convenient and effective means to prevent nosocomial transmissions, vaccine uptake among HCWs remains unacceptably low. Worldwide, numerous studies have demonstrated that nurses have lower vaccination rates than physicians and that there is a relationship between receipt of vaccination by HCWs and knowledge. Measures to improve vaccination rates need to be profession-sensitive as well as specific in their approach in order to achieve sustained success.
TRENTOOL : an open source toolbox to estimate neural directed interactions with transfer entropy

To investigate directed interactions in neural networks we often use Norbert Wiener's famous definition of observational causality. Wiener’s definition states that an improvement of the prediction of the future of a time series X from its own past by the incorporation of information from the past of a second time series Y is seen as an indication of a causal interaction from Y to X. Early implementations of Wiener's principle – such as Granger causality – modelled interacting systems by linear autoregressive processes and the interactions themselves were also assumed to be linear. However, in complex systems – such as the brain – nonlinear behaviour of its parts and nonlinear interactions between them have to be expected. In fact nonlinear power-to-power or phase-to-power interactions between frequencies are reported frequently. To cover all types of non-linear interactions in the brain, and thereby to fully chart the neural networks of interest, it is useful to implement Wiener's principle in a way that is free of a model of the interaction [1]. Indeed, it is possible to reformulate Wiener's principle based on information theoretic quantities to obtain the desired model-freeness. The resulting measure was originally formulated by Schreiber [2] and termed transfer entropy (TE). Shortly after its publication transfer entropy found applications to neurophysiological data. With the introduction of new, data efficient estimators (e.g. [3]) TE has experienced a rapid surge of interest (e.g. [4]). Applications of TE in neuroscience range from recordings in cultured neuronal populations to functional magnetic resonanace imaging (fMRI) signals. Despite widespread interest in TE, no publicly available toolbox exists that guides the user through the difficulties of this powerful technique. TRENTOOL (the TRansfer ENtropy TOOLbox) fills this gap for the neurosciences by bundling data efficient estimation algorithms with the necessary parameter estimation routines and nonparametric statistical testing procedures for comparison to surrogate data or between experimental conditions. Meeting Abstract : 82. Jahresversammlung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Hals-Nasen-Ohren-Heilkunde, Kopf- und Hals-Chirurgie. Freiburg i. Br., 01.-05.06.2011.
Ca. 3 Millionen Erwachsene in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland leiden unter Tinnitus, wobei eine bei jedem dieser Patienten zur Heilung führende Therapie bisher noch nicht existiert. Ansatzpunkt einer neuartigen Therapie ist die Wiederherstellung des normalen elektrischen Entladungsmusters im Hörnerv mittels elektrischer Stimulation. Hiermit berichten wir über unsere ersten Erfahrungen mit dem Tinnelec, einem Implantat mit einer einzelnen Stimulations-Elektrode die in der Rundfensternische platziert wird.
Zurzeit haben wir 4 einseitig ertaubten Patienten mit Tinnitus auf dem betroffenen Ohr jeweils ein Tinnelec-System implantiert. Die Dauer des Tinnitus betrug mindestens ein Jahr und gängige Tinnitus-Therapien wie z.B. Infusionstherapie waren erfolglos geblieben. Ein psychogener Tinnitus wurde ausgeschlossen. Der durch den Tinnitus verursachte Leidensdruck wurde anhand einer VAS Scala (Visuelle Analog Scala) und eines Tinnitus-Handicap-Inventory (THI) Fragebogens beurteilt. Die Reizapplikation betrug mind. 4 Stunden täglich. Als Stimulationsparameter wurde eine Reizmusterannäherung an den Tinnitus angestrebt.
Bei drei Patienten wurde unter der Stimulation der Tinnitus erträglicher, eine zeitweise komplette Unterdrückung des Tinnitus schon innerhalb der ersten Therapie-Wochen wurde jedoch nur in einem der Fälle berichtet. Diese Ergebnisse wurden auch durch das THI und VAS unterstützt.
Die Tinnelec-Implantation erscheint für Tinnitus Erfolg versprechend zu sein. Weitere Studien bei Tinnitus-Patienten ohne zusätzliche Hörbeeinträchtigung sind jedoch notwendig bis endgültige Schlussfolgerungen betreffend dieses Implantats gezogen werden können. In jedem Fall bleibt die Option einer Cochlea-Implantation im selben Ohr, nach Explantation des Tinnelec, bestehen.

A test stand for optical beam tomography was developed. As a new non-destructive beam-diagnostic system for high current ion beams, the test stand will be installed in the low energy beam transport section (LEBT) of the Frankfurt Neutron Source (FRANZ) behind the chopper system. The test stand consists of a rotatable vacuum chamber with a mounted CCD camera. The maximum rotation angle amounts to 270°. In a first phase the optical beam profile measurement and 3D density reconstruction is tested with a time independent 10 keV He beam. The measurements and performance of data processing algorithms are compared with the beam transport simulations. In a later phase the performance with time dependent beams (120 keV, 200 mA) at a repetition rate of 250 kHz and a duty cycle of 2.5% has to be evaluated. An overview of the first phase results is shown.
The HITRAP linear decelerator currently being set up at GSI will provide slow, few keV/u highly charged ions for atomic physics experiments. The expected beam intensity is up to 105 ions per shot. To optimize phase and amplitude of the RF systems intensity, bunch length and kinetic energy of the particles need to be monitored. The bunch length that we need to fit is about 2 ns, which is typically measured by capacitive pickups. However, they do not work for the low beam intensities that we face. We investigated the bunch length with a fast CVD diamond detector working in single particle counting mode. Averaging over 8 shots yields a clear, regular picture of the bunched beam. Energy measurements by capacitive pickups are limited by the presence of intense primary and partially decelerated beam and hence make tuning of the IH-structure impossible. The energy of the decelerated fraction of the beam behind the first deceleration cavity was determined to about 10 % accuracy with a permanent dipole magnet combined with a MCP. Better detector calibration should help reaching the required 1%. Design of the detectors as well as the results of the measurements will be presented.
Im Jahr 2006 brachte Saul Friedländer seine weithin beachtete Gesamtdarstellung „Nazi Germany and the Jews“ mit dem zweiten Band „The Years of Extermination“ zum Abschluss. Das Buch lese sich wie ein Roman, so und ähnlich urteilten Rezensenten über dessen literarische Qualitäten. Auf erzählerische Stärken verweisen auch Kommentare zu Christopher Brownings jüngster Studie „Remembering Survival“ (2010). Das Erzählen in der Geschichtswissenschaft ist seit längerem wieder Gegenstand der Diskussion: Forscherinnen und Forscher auf einem Symposium auf dem Alten Schloss Dornburg bei Jena gingen im Juni 2011 dieser Frage speziell für den Bereich der Holocaust-Historiographie nach.
Accelerator Driven Systems (ADS) are promising tools for the efficient transmutation of nuclear waste products in dedicated industrial installations, called transmuters. The Myrrha project at Mol, Belgium, placed itself on the path towards these applications with a multipurpose and versatile system based on a liquid PbBi (LBE) cooled fast reactor (80 MWth) which may be operated in both critical and subcritical modes. In the latter case the core is fed by spallation neutrons obtained from a 600 MeV proton beam hitting the LBE coolant/target. The accelerator providing this beam is a high intensity CW superconducting linac which is laid out for the highest achievable reliability. The combination of a parallel redundant and of a fault tolerant scheme should allow obtaining an MTBF value in excess of 250 hours that is required for optimal integrity and successful operation of the ADS. Myrrha is expected to be operational in 2023. The forthcoming 4-year period is fully dedicated to R&D activities, and in the field of the accelerator they are strongly focused on the reliability aspects and on the proper shaping of the beam trip spectrum.
This paper examines the well-known practice of developing a conceptual frame-work for reading works of literature in such a way as to illuminate previously ignored aspects of those works. It investigates the nature or genre of such discoveries: Are they philological? Hermeneutic? Do they correspond to the discipline of the framework selected? This problem is considered in the case of an example of the deployment of a very specific philosophical framework, namely the problem of skepticism as glossed by the American philosopher Stanley Cavell. This framework brings to light a structural affinity between two seemingly disparate moments in the history of German lyric poetry: the Biedermeier period and the works of Konkrete Dichtung from the mid-twentieth century. The paper postulates this affinity as an exam-ple of the kind of “discovery” whose type, usefulness, or even existence as discovery might be called into question and perhaps not, ultimately, agreed on.
We discuss the implementation and results of a recently developed microscopic method for calculating ion-ion interaction potentials and fusion cross-sections. The method uses the TDHF evolution to obtain the instantaneous many-body collective state using a density constraint. The ion-ion potential as well as the coordinate dependent mass are calculated from these states. The method fully accounts for the dynamical processes present in the TDHF time-evolution and provides a parameter-free way of calculating fusion cross-sections.
n order to reach the desired intensities of heavy ion beams for the experiments at FAIR, SIS18 and SIS100 have to be operated with intermediate charge states. Operation with intermediate charge state heavy ions at the intensity level of about 1011 ions per cycle has never been demonstrated elsewhere and requires a dedicated upgrade program for SIS18 and a dedicated machine design for SIS100. The specific problems coming along with the intermediate charge state operation in terms of charge exchange processes at collisions with residual gas atoms, pressure bumps by ion induced desorption and corresponding beam loss appears far below the typical space charge limits. Thus, new design concepts and new technical equipment addressing these issues are developed and realized with highest priority. The upgrade program of SIS18 addressing the goal of minimum ionization beam loss and stable residual gas pressure conditions has been defined in 2005. A major part of this upgrade program has been successfully realized, with the result of a world record in accelerated number of intermediate charge state heavy ions.
We analyze the universal critical behavior at the chiral critical point in QCD with three degenerate quark masses. We confirm that this critical point lies in the universality class of the three dimensional Ising model. The symmetry of the Ising model, which is Z(2), is not directly realized in the QCD Hamiltonian. After making an ansatz for the magnetization- and energy-like operators as linear admixtures of the chiral condensate and the gluonic action, we determine several non-universal mixing and normalization constants. These parameters determine an unambiguous mapping of the critical behavior in QCD to that of the 3d-Ising model. We verify its validity by showing that the thus obtained orderparameter scales in accordance with the magnetic equation of state of the 3d-Ising model.
Der Übersetzungsprozess der Technischen Dokumentation wird zunehmend mit Maschineller Übersetzung (MÜ) unterstützt. Wir blicken zunächst auf die Ausgangstexte und erstellen automatisch prüfbare Regeln, mit denen diese Texte so editiert werden können, dass sie optimale Ergebnisse in der MÜ liefern. Diese Regeln basieren auf Forschungsergebnissen zur Übersetzbarkeit, auf Forschungsergebnissen zu Translation Mismatches in der MÜ und auf Experimenten.
Space charge lenses use a confined electron cloud for the focusing of ion beams. The focusing strength is given by the electron density whereas the density distribution influences the mapping quality of the space charge lens and is related to the confinement. The plasma parameters, loss as well as production mechanisms have a strong impact on plasma beam interactions. A scaled up space charge lens was constructed to investigate the properties of a nonneutral plasmas in detail. New non-interceptive diagnostic has been developed to characterize the collective behaviour of the confined nonneutral plasma in terms of an optimized lens design and parameters. Experimental results will be presented in comparison with numerical simulations.
Space charge lenses using a stable electron cloud for focusing low energy heavy ion beams are an alternative concept to conventional ion optics. Due to external fields electrons are confined inside the lens’ volume. In case of a homogeneously distributed electron cloud the linear electric space charge field enables beam focusing free of aberration. Since the mapping quality of the lens is related to the confinement, non-destructive diagnostics has been developed to determine the plasma parameters and to characterize the collective behavior of the confined nonneutral plasma. Moreover, a scaled up space charge lens was constructed for a detailed investigation of the nonneutral plasma properties as well as beam interactions with a stable confined electron cloud. Experimental results will be presented in comparison with numerical simulations.
For the injector upgrade at FNAL a 4-rod Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) with a resonance frequency of 200 MHz has been build. With this short structure of only 1.3 m a very compact injector design has been realized. Simulations with CST Microwave Studio® were performed for the design. Their results leading to the RF characterizations of the RFQ and the final RF setup which has been accomplished at IAP of the Goethe-University Frankfurt are presented in this paper.
The article engages in a close reading of Goethe's sonnet "Mächtiges Überraschen", published in the sonnet cycle of 1807. In it the poetic voice evokes a mountain river whose course is suddenly interrupted by the limiting force of a dam. Paradoxically, however, the effect of this is not stagnation, but the emergence and celebration of a "new life". This paradox will be illuminated by a discussion of Goethe's "Morphologie" as a universal scientific method. Morphology studies the infinite variety of (natural) forms while also insisting on their individual limitation. Goethe's understanding of life lingers on the co-presence of "coined form" and "living development" as he formulates it in "Urworte. Orphisch". "Mächtiges Überraschen" is read as a poem that embodies this fundamental polarity. The sonnet refers time and again to the borders and limitations of both the natural image it evokes and its own poetic properties. Simultaneously, it suggests the transgression of these limitations on both a formal (or structural) and a metaphorical level. As a poetological sonnet, "Mächtiges Überraschen" unifies the representation (of a natural event) with a reflection on representation as such. The announcement of a "new life" in the last stanza of the poem is thus read as an announcement of its own coming-into-being.
The SIS300 synchrotron, planned for the new Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) at GSI-Darmstadt, will become the first superconducting synchrotron worldwide using cos(θ) magnets for resonant slow extraction. A multi-objective optimization algorithm has been developed for the design of the non-linear magnet scheme. The optimization algorithm makes use of the analytical model for the slow extraction from Kobayashi, the analytical description of the resonance excitation and amplitude-dependent tune-shift from Bengtsson, and corrects the chromaticity in order to fulfill the Hardt condition. As a result, the placement of the chromatic and harmonic sextupole magnets in SIS300, the number of sextupole families and the gradients of these families have been optimized for a high efficiency slow extraction. The algorithm accounts also for the sextupole errors on the dipole magnets, compensating its effects. Furthermore, optimized time-dependent settings for the sextupole magnets are generated to compensate the persistent current decay occurring at slow extraction. Tolerances for the magnets are set for the limits where the compensation is no longer valid.
"Finnegans Wake" has struck many of its exegetes as the epitome of the postmodern text. The oddity of James Joyce's last work has been and still is a provocation not only for literary criticism and theory but for every reader of the work. It provokes us to reflect on our preconceptions concerning such fundamental issues as reading, meaning and understanding. Due to this very quality, the work has been a fertile intellectual stimulus for an illustrious band of thinkers of the ―post-projects. Its singularity has provoked and facilitated the further development of theoretical frameworks beyond the confines of literary theory proper. This essay will trace the elaborate theoretical responses of Umberto Eco and Jacques Lacan to Joyce's grand literary arcanum. Eco's concept of the openness of modern works of art and Lacan's elaboration of his psychoanalytic concepts of the symptom and of the Borromean knot were inspired by their study of Joyce. As an extreme instance of literariness, Finnegans Wake thus constitutes an ideal opportunity to consider the scope and boundaries of the scholarly study of literary texts more generally.
A non-interceptive optical diagnostic system on the basis of beam tomography, was developed for the planned Frankfurt Neutron Source (FRANZ). The proton driver linac of FRANZ will provide energies up to 2.0 MeV. The measurement device will non-interceptively derive required beam parameters at the end of the LEBT at beam energies of 120 keV and a current of 200 mA. On a narrow space of 351.2 mm length a rotatable tomography tank will perform a multi-turn tomography with a high and stable vacuum pressure. The tank allows to plug different measurement equipment additionally to the CCD Camera installed, to perform optical beam tomography. A collection of developed algorithms provides information about the density distribution, shape, size, location and emittance on the basis of CCD images. Simulated, as well as measured data have been applied to the evaluation algorithms to test the reliability of the beam. The actual contribution gives an overview on the current diagnostic possibilities of this diagnostic system.
This novel kind of neutron beam facility will provide 1 ns short neutron pulses with an approximately thermal energy distribution around 30 keV. The pulse repetition rate will be up to 250 kHz, the total proton number per pulse will be up to 6×1010 in the final stage, starting with a p – source current of 200 mA. A second target station will allow n – activation experiments by cw beam operation. An intense 2 MeV proton beam will drive a neutron source by the 7 Li (p,n) 7 Be reaction. The facility is under construction at the physics experimental hall of the J.W. Goethe – University. The 1m thick concrete tunnel was installed in 2009. In 2011 all rf amplifiers will be delivered and installed. Successful 200 mA proton source experiments in 2010 at a test stand will be followed by experiments on the 120 kV FRANZ terminal in 2011. The 250 kHz, 100 ns chopper in front of the rf linac is under construction, while the 2 MeV bunch compressor design was finished and the technical design of all components has started. The main accelerator cavity is under construction. First 2 MeV beam tests are expected for end of 2012.

Storage rings offer the possibility of measuring proton- and alpha-induced reactions in inverse kinematics. The combination of this approachwith a radioactive beamfacility allows, in principle, the determination of the respective cross sections for radioactive isotopes. Such data are highly desired for a better understanding of astrophysical nucleosynthesis processes like the p-process. A pioneering experiment has been performed at the Experimental Storage Ring (ESR) at GSI using a stable 96Ru beam at 9-11 AMeV and a hydrogen target. Monte-Carlo simulations of the experiment were made using the Geant4 code. In these simulations, the experimental setup is described in detail and all reaction channels can be investigated. Based on the Geant4 simulations, a prediction of the shape of different spectral components can be performed. A comparison of simulated predictions with the experimental results shows a good agreement and allows the extraction of the cross section.
SIS100 is the main synchrotron of the FAIR project. It is designed to accelerate high intensity intermediate charge state uranium beams from 200 MeV/u up to 2.7 GeV/u. Intermediate charge state heavy ions are exposed to a high probability of charge exchange due to collisions with residual gas molecules. Since the charge exchange process changes the magnetic rigidity, the involved ions are lost behind dispersive elements, and an energy-dependent gas desorption takes place. The StrahlSim code has been used to predict the stability of the residual gas pressure in SIS100 under beam loss driven dynamic conditions. The results show, that a stable operation at highest U28+ intensities is possible, under the constraint that the vacuum chambers of the ion catcher system are cold enough to pump hydrogen. Furthermore, in order to determine the load to the cryogenic system, the average beam energy deposition onto the ion catcher system has been calculated.
The MYRRHA Project (Multi Purpose Hybrid Reactor for High Tech Applications) at Mol/belgium will be a user facility with emphasis on research with neutron generated by a spallation source. One main aspect is the demonstration of nuclear waste technology using an accelerator driven system. A superconducting linac delivers a 4 mA, 600 MeV proton beam. The first accelerating section is covered by the 17 MeV injector. It consists of a proton source, an RFQ, two room temperature CH cavities and 4 superconducting CH-cavities. The initial design has used an RF frequency of 352 MHz. Recently the frequency of the injector has been set to 176 MHz. The main reason is the possible use of a 4-rod-RFQ with reduced power dissipation and energy, respectively. The status of the overall injector layout including cavity design is presented.

Intense ion beams with small phase space occupation (high brilliance) are mandatory to keep beam losses low in high current injector accelerators like those planned for FAIR. The low energy beam transport from the ion source towards the linac has to keep the emittance growth low and has to support the optimization of the ion source tune. The Frankfurt Neutron Source Facility FRANZ is currently under construction. An intense beam of protons (2 MeV, 200 mA) will be used for neutron production using the Li7(p,n)Be7 reaction for studies of the astrophysical s-process. A collimation channel, which can be adjusted to allow the transport of beams with a certain beam emittance, is an ideal tool to optimize the ion source tune in terms of beam brightness. Therefore a collimation channel in the Low Energy Beam Transport section will be used. Through defined apertures and transversal phase space rotation using focusing solenoids the beam halo as well as unwanted H2+ and H3+ fractions will be cut. Theoretical studies which were carried out so far and a first design of the setup will be presented.
A modern linear accelerator of ions is a long chain of different accelerating-focusing structures. The design of new linacs, as well as an upgrade and optimization of operating facilities, requires precise and reliable beam matching with the subsequent sections. Proper matching of the beam to the channel allows to improve the performance of the whole linac and to reduce the specific costs. Additionally it helps to avoide particle loss in high energy high intensity linacs. Generally a matching algorithm combines precisely measured or calculated accelerating-focusing external fields and experimentally obtained details of the beam parameters with an advanced code for beam dynamics simulations including space charge effects. Experimental results are introduced into a code as input data. The described algorithm has already been successfully implemented for several GSI projects: an upgrade of the GSI heavy ion linac UNILAC, an ion linac for the cancer therapy, the proton linac for the FAIR facility, a facility for laser acceleration of ions and others. Measured data and results of beam dynamics simulations leading to an achieved improvement of the linac performance are presented.
The ARMADILLO bunch compressor currently being designed at IAP is capable of reaching a longitudinal pulse compression ratio of 45 for proton beams of 150 mA at 2 MeV. It will provide one nanosecond proton pulses with a peak current of 7.7 A. The system guides nine linacμbunches deflected by a 5 MHz rf kicker and uses four dipole magnets - two homogeneous and two with field gradients - to merge them on the target. For longitudinal focusing and an energy variation of ±200 keV two multitrack rf cavities are included. ARMADILLO will be installed at the end of the Frankfurt Neutron Source FRANZ making use of the unique 250 kHz time structure. This contribution will provide an overview of the layout of the system as well as recent advances in component design and beam dynamics of the compressor.
MYRRHA is conceived as an accelerator driven system (ADS) for transmutation of high level nuclear waste. The neutron source is created by coupling a proton accelerator of 600 MeV with a 4 mA proton beam, a spallation source and a sub-critical core. The IAP of Frankfurt University is responsible for the development of the 17 MeV injector operated at 176 MHz. The injector consists of a 1.5 MeV 4-Rod-RFQ and six CH-drifttube-structures. The first two CH-structures will be operated at room temperature and the other CH-structures are superconducting cavities assembled in one cryo-module. To achieve the extremely high reliability required by the ADS application, the design of the 17 MeV injector has been intensively studied, with respect to thermal issues, minimum peak fields and field distribution.

Hintergrund: Multimedikation als Folge von Multimorbidität ist ein zentrales Problem der Hausarztpraxis und erhöht das Risiko für unangemessene Arzneimittel-Verordnungen (VO). Um die Medikation bei älteren, multimorbiden Patienten zu optimieren und zu priorisieren, wurde eine computergestützte, durch Medizinische Fachangestellte (MFA) assistierte, komplexe Intervention (checklistengestütztes Vorbereitungsgespräch sowie Überprüfung eingenommener Medikamente durch MFA, Einsatz des web-basierten ArzneimittelinformationsDienstes AiD, spezifisches Arzt-Patienten-Gespräch) entwickelt und in einer 12-monatigen Pilotstudie auf Machbarkeit getestet. Ein auf 9 Items reduzierter MAI [1] wurde eingesetzt, um dessen Eignung als potentielles primäres Outcome der Hauptstudie zu prüfen.
Material und Methoden: In die Pilotstudie in 20 Hausarztpraxen mit Cluster-Randomisation auf Praxisebene in Kontrollgruppe (Regelversorgung b. empfohlenem Standard) vs. Interventionsgruppe (komplexe Intervention b. empfohlenem Standard) wurden 5 Pat./Praxis eingeschlossen (≥65 Jahre, ≥3 chron. Erkrankungen, ≥5 Dauermedikamente, MMSE ≥26, Lebenserwartung ≥6 Monate). Zur Bewertung des MAI wurden an Baseline (T0), 6 Wo. (T1) & 3 Mon. (T2) nach Intervention erhoben: VO, Diagnosen, Natrium, Kalium & Kreatinin i.S., Größe, Gewicht, Geschlecht, Cumulative Illness Rating Scale (CIRS) [2] durch die Hausarztpraxis; Symptome für unerwünschte Arzneimittelwirkungen im Patienten-Telefoninterview.
Für den MAI wurde die Angemessenheit jeder VO in den 9 Kategorien Indikation, Effektivität, Dosierung, korrekter & praktikabler Applikationsweg, Arzneimittelwechselwirkung, Drug-disease-Interaktion, Doppelverordnung, Anwendungsdauer 3-stufig bewertet (1 = korrekt - 3 = unkorrekt) und für die Auswertung auf Patientenebene summiert. Die Bewertung erfolgte ohne Kenntnis der Gruppenzugehörigkeit. Deskriptive Statistiken und Reliabilitätsanalysen, ungewichtete Auswertung und Gewichtung n. Bregnhoj [3].
Ergebnisse: Es wurden N=100 Patienten in die Studie eingeschlossen, im Mittel 76 Jahre (Standardabweichung, SD 6; Range, R: 64-93) , 52% Frauen, durchschnittlich 9 VO/Pat. (SD 2; R 4-16), mittlerer CIRS-Score 10 (SD 4; R 0-23). Basierend auf N=851 VO (100 Pat.) zu T0 betrug der Reliabilitätskoeffizient (RK, Cronbachs Alpha) der ungewichteten 9 Items 0,70. Items 1-5 wiesen akzeptable Trennschärfen auf (0,52-0,64), die der Items 6, 7 & 9 fielen mit 0,21-0,29 niedriger aus, die des Item 8 betrug 0,06. Auf der Basis der 9 gewichteten Items fiel die interne Konsistenz des MAI erwartet höher aus (0,75). Die Reliabilitätsanalysen auf VO-Ebene zeigten einen RK von 0,67 (ungewichtet) vs. 0,75 (gewichtet), die Trennschärfen waren vergleichbar. Zur Zwischenauswertung betrug der MAI (T1-T0) in der Interventionsgruppe (5 Praxen, 24 Pat.) -0,9 (SD 5,6), in der Kontrollgruppe (7 Praxen, 35 Pat.) -0,5 (SD 4,9); die Differenz zwischen beiden Gruppen Mi–Mk -0,4 [95% Konfidenzintervall: -3,4;2,6].
Schlussfolgerung: Der MAI ist als potentielles primäres Outcome in der Hauptstudie geeignet: wenige fehlende Werte, Darstellung von Unterschieden prä-post und zwischen den Gruppen, akzeptable interne Konsistenz. Der niedrige Trennschärfekoeffizient des Items 8 weist darauf hin, dass dieses Item nicht mit dem Gesamt-Skalenwert korreliert, auch die Items 6, 7 und 9 korrelieren wesentlich schwächer mit dem Gesamt-Skalenwert als die Items 1 bis 5. Eine Wichtung z.B. der Items 2, 5, 6 und 9 könnte erwogen werden, um den Fokus der Intervention in der Hauptzielgröße angemessen abzubilden.
Die Grenzen und Möglichkeiten der Philologie im Holocaust-Diskurs : das Beispiel Theresienstadt

Philology seems to have come to a crossroads. One path leads back to the save haven of established core strengths and competences, the other path promises new perspectives through further expansion into the vastness of cultural studies. If philology is to continue as a discipline relevant to society as a whole, retreat into pure philology — concentrating only on the text itself, adhering to national boundaries — is no viable option. Instead, by opening itself up for the questions and methods of truly interdisciplinary inquiry, philology can emerge in new shape, powerful enough to adequately address issues of interdisciplinary, intercultural and intergenerational importance. This essay will argue for such an extension of philology into cultural studies through an examination of texts, songs and plays written in and about the Terezín ghetto. The songs of Leo Strauß and Manfred Greiffenhagen, the ghetto opera "Der Kaiser von Atlantis" (The Emperor of Atlantis), as well as Roy Kift's play "Camp Comedy" and Frido Mann's parable "Terezín" will exemplify the potential of philology’s conjunction with history, sociology and cultural studies.
The essay raises the question of what it actually means to work with concepts of intermediality in literary studies. It uses as an example a Ph.D project which compares story-telling in literary texts and videographed testimonies by Shoah survivors. It soon becomes clear that that a strictly "intermedial" approach does not fully serve the purpose. Instead, one should try to maintain a literary studies perspective even on other forms of media. To illustrate this, the essay presents an analysis of videographed testimonies using categories taken from literary narratology. It thereby shows the problems as well as the merits of such an approach, at the limits of the discipline.
In response to the question "What is the nature of a philological practice that seeks to establish a spatial relationship between text and reader?" this essay compares the philologist Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht's contemporary account of aesthetic experience with the school of Empathy Aesthetics in the late nineteenth century with respect to the manner each emphasizes the spatial qualities of that relationship. Although employing different conceptual repertoires, both assert that the desire of an aesthetic recipient to be in the spatial vicinity of the object and experience the presence of the object with and upon his own body motivates an aesthetic experience, including the work of the philologist. Gumbrecht and the empathy aesthetician Robert Vischer characterize the desire to stand in a spatial relationship to the aesthetic object as the desire to be subsumed thereby, a characterization which entails the negation of the original philological standpoint.
Friedrich August Wolf posits in his "Prolegomena ad Homerum" that, from the time of the first transcription of Homer's epics around 700 BC to the time of the Alexandrian editions, the Iliad and Odyssey underwent repeated revisions by a multitude of poets and critics. According to Wolf, the "unified" works that we know are the products of emendations by Alexandrian critics who attempted to homogenize the style of the epics and to return them to their "original" form. This paper argues that Wolf's narration of the history of these texts relies on and produces aesthetic claims, not historical ones. Wolf determines the dates and origins of passages based on intuitive judgments of style for which he cannot provide linguistic or historical evidence. And his conclusions that the "Iliad" and "Odyssey" were not written by Homer, but rather by a history of emendations and revisions, enthrones his work — the work of philologists — in place of the literary genius Homer. Thus philology becomes for Wolf an aesthetic discipline that produces canonical and beautiful works of literature. This aesthetic task is essential for philology to fulfill its educational and political responsibilities.
Innovation oder Wiederkehr? : Das Methodenspektrum im Kurzzeitgedächtnis der Literaturwissenschaft

In recent years, a pronounced methodological self-reflexiveness has been established as a standard in studying language and literature. Methodological pluralism and a specific methodological adaptation to the objects of study are a characteristic feature of present-day literary and cultural studies. In keeping with this tendency, introductory textbooks on literary studies often provide an overview of the broad discussion and spectrum of methods and their seemingly boundless possible applications and the options for combining them. But this is not the first time that the boundaries of our discipline have undergone dissolution. Beginning with early examples of accounts of methodological variety and methodological reflection (Oscar Benda, Harry Maync, Emil Ermatinger, Julius Petersen), the present article discusses the ways in which an awareness of a surprisingly long tradition of discussions concerning methodological competence affects the present self-conception and identity of philology.
Is there something like a 'scientific' approach to the reading or interpretation of literary texts as is suggested by the German term 'Literaturwissenschaft'? This essay argues that genuinely scientific criteria such as the intersubjective verifiability of a given reading do not apply to the reading of literary texts. The reason is that such texts enable a quasi infinite range of different readings the preconceptions of which are contingent upon the individual readers, their previous experiences, literary as well as non-literary, and their expectations. — What, then, are the tasks of a scholarly reading of literary texts? Firstly, the theoretical reflection upon the status of such texts in comparison to pragmatic texts; secondly, the attempt at reconstructing their historical context (in terms of discursive history), and thirdly, a reading with regard to present-day problems. The 'quality' of a scholarly reading of a literary text would thus be dependent not on its 'objectivity', but rather on its capacity to produce resonances amongst other present-day readers, scholarly and non-scholarly.

This paper seeks to demonstrate the ways in which Bachmann's work constitutes a prime case for examining the scope and the boundaries of philological research. It does so by focusing on Bachmann‘s fragmentary and unfinished novel, "Das Buch Franza" [1965-1966], exploring the text and its author in an interdisciplinary light. Forming part of Bachmann's uncompleted "Todesarten"-Projekt, "Das Buch Franza" deals with the continuing legacy of fascism and its displaced forms in the post-war era. In its thematisation of the traumatic and necessarily belated after-effects of the Second World War and the Holocaust, Bachmann‘s text draws on various disciplines and discourses, namely geology, archaeology and psychoanalysis. I consider the ways in which the interdisciplinary ambitions of the text reflect Bachmann‘s struggle for a new form of representation, one that adequately mirrors the concerns of her society. Finally, drawing on Bachmann‘s own theoretical reflections on the field of literary study in her Frankfurt Lectures on poetics, I trace the ways in which the author's work repeatedly encourages us to adopt multiple disciplinary perspectives, as well as privileging literature with a utopian function that exceeds any generic or disciplinary boundaries.
Usually 4-ROD Radio Frequency Quadrupoles (RFQ) are built for frequencies up to 216 MHz. For higher frequencies 4-VANE structures are more common. The advantages of 4-Rod structures, the greater flexibility for tuning and being more comfortable for maintenance, are motivating the development of a 4-Rod RFQ for higher frequencies than 216 MHz. In particular a 325 MHz RFQ with an output energy of 3 MeV is needed for the proton linac for the FAIR project of GSI. This paper reports about the design studies and the latest developments of this RFQ.
We analyze general convergence properties of the Taylor expansion of observables to finite chemical potential in the framework of an effective 2+1 flavor Polyakov-quark-meson model. To compute the required higher order coefficients a novel technique based on algorithmic differentiation has been developed. Results for thermodynamic observables as well as the phase structure obtained through the series expansion up to 24th order are compared to the full model solution at finite chemical potential. The available higher order coefficients also allow for resummations, e.g. Padé series, which improve the convergence behavior. In view of our results we discuss the prospects for locating the QCD phase boundary and a possible critical endpoint with the Taylor expansion method.
Recently, new soil data maps were developed, which include vertical soil properties like soil type. Implementing those into a multilayer Soil-Vegetation-Atmosphere-Transfer (SVAT) scheme, discontinuities in the water content occur at the interface between dissimilar soils. Therefore, care must be taken in solving the Richards equation for calculating vertical soil water fluxes. We solve a modified form of the mixed (soil water and soil matric potential based) Richards equation by subtracting the equilibrium state of soil matrix potential ψE from the hydraulic potential ψh. The sensitivity of the modified equation is tested under idealized conditions. The paper will show that the modified equation can handle with discontinuities in soil water content at the interface of layered soils.
In works of Maghrebi authors like Tahar Ben Jelloun (Morocco), the body is the central medium that generates and constitutes the narration. The authors stand in the tradition of oral folk literature, which increasingly has been displaced by French written literature. Hence there is a tendency in postcolonial Maghrebi texts to reintegrate the performative act of narrating via the body into the literary structures of the novels. This becomes manifest in poly-phonic and poly-perspectival narrative experiments in which, with recourse to the halqa (the typical oral narrative situation), a re-territorialization (Deleuze/Guattari) of the body is performed.
In this context the body in literature plays a central role on the level of the metadiegesis: it is presented as the medium of narration. Using as an example Tahar Ben Jellouns novel L’enfant de sable (1985), the aim of this essay is to show how halqa elements and narrative influences from The Arabian Nights structure the text, which becomes a hybrid between medium and embodiment (Fischer-Lichte) by simulating eventfulness.
On the level of the diegesis, the body plays likewise a decisive role as subject of the storyline, becoming the most important medium for the expression of emotions, thoughts or attitudes. Body language is deliberately utilized by the authors to discuss ways of dealing with traditions, the negotiation of social relations and the (de-)construction of identity. Social order, power structures, hierarchies, existing values and norms are communicated and constituted via body language.
Most texts that deal with Martin tom Dieck’s black-and-white comic "hundert Ansichten der Speicherstadt" (Zürich: Arrache Cœur, 1997, French title: Vortex) claim that it depicts the eponymous warehouse district (Speicherstadt) in Hamburg. As this paper shows, this claim is inaccurate: although the architecture in tom Dieck’s drawings clearly refers to buildings in the warehouse district, the differences in the details are so obvious, that to speak of a straightforward depiction of the Speicherstadt is oversimplifying. After a brief comparison with Christoph Schäfer’s picture book "Die Stadt ist unsere Fabrik" (Leipzig: Spector Books, 2010), the paper concludes with a discussion of the depiction of urban environments in general and in tom Dieck's book in particular.
