The principles of the Islamic mystical exegesis are presented in this article. The sources of Islamic mystical exegesis of the Qur’an starts with Prophet Muhammad and his companions and continues with the following generations. In this regard, the narratives of ʿUmar and Ibn ʿAbbās are noteworthy because they were the first who disclosed the underlying meaning of certain verses which have reached us until today. The commentaries of the Islamic mystical exegetes are supported by the Qurʾān, some key Hadith of the Prophet and actions and words of his companions. This is a type of knowledge by unveiling (kašf) and is obtained by a channel that is confidential and closed to others. This leads to an ongoing debate as the confirmability is difficult. It is acknowledged that as long as these commentaries do not contradict with the literal meaning of the verses, are supported by solid narrations, or do not harm the boundaries of sharia they should be accepted as an enrichment.
This article is concerned with the mystical exegesis of the journey between Moses and Ḫiḍr mentioned in the Qurʾān in Sūrah al-Kahf (18/60-82). The verses are viewed and analysed by the commentaries of classic commentators (mufassirūn) aṭ-Ṭabarī, az-Zamaḫšarī and ar-Razī. The emphasis is set on the content-related description of Moses and Ḫiḍr which are found in Sūrah al-Kahf. The supreme allegory of the journey is that divinely-inspired knowledge (al-ʿilm al-ladunnī) may be received in the form of revelation (as Moses did) or as mystical, intuitive knowledge (as was given to Ḫiḍr). Classic commentators suggest, despite the distinguished position of Moses as a prophet, that the knowledge given to Ḫiḍr is superior and described as a secret or hidden knowledge. For this reason, Ḫiḍr holds an essential position in Islamic mystical tradition (taṣawwuf), in which Sūrah al-Kahf is considered as a legitimation for the mystical dimension in Islam.

The purpose of this article is to explore the Qurʾānic verses that mention Mary and the miraculous events that occured in particular during the guardianship of Zacharia. In this context commentators from the Islamic mystical tradition underline the link between the aspects of asceticism (riyāḍa) and miracles (karāmāt) with the Sufi tradition. They emphasise on the superior status of Mary in the sight of Allah Who has raised and protected her with great care. Commentators agree that Mary is not a Prophet, but can be seen as a serveant who became a friend of Allah (walī). Moreover, they highlight that Allah will always protect and support those who have obtained this superior status just as He did with Mary.
The spider genus Zaitunia Lehtinen, 1967 (Araneae, Filistatidae) is revised. Two new combinations are established: Z. annulipes (Kulczyński, 1908) comb. nov., ex Filistata, and Pholcoides monticola (Spassky, 1941) comb. nov., ex Zaitunia. New data on distribution of the considered taxa are provided.
A new Iranian, probably pholeophilous species of the scarabaeine genus Onthophagus Latreille, 1802, O. roessneri n. sp., is described, illustrated, and its placement in the semicornis group within the subgenus Palaeonthophagus Zunino, 1979 is discussed. A key to the species of the group is presented.
In 2014, 56 localities in four provinces of Lesser Himalaya in Pakistan were studied. A total of 28 species have been recorded. A female of the data deficient, threatened species Coeliccia vacca was recorded from Charhaan. The record of Drepanosticta carmichaeli is a new addition to the list of Odonata of Pakistan, and expand the range of this species further to the west. The taxonomical status of Ischnura aurora aurora – considered common in Pakistan, following baseline literature of Fraser (1933) – now turns out to be Ischnura aurora rubilio.
Four new species of the genus Coecobrya, C. gejianbangi sp. nov., C. annulata sp. nov., C. ciliata sp. nov., and C. oculata sp. nov., are described from Guangxi caves as the representative of the genus in China. Coecobrya oculata sp. nov. of the boneti-group has 1+1 eyes and a serrate outer edge of the unguiculus. The other three species, devoid of eyes and with a tiny outer tooth on the unguiculus, are assigned here to the tenebricosa-group, assuming that the large tooth on the unguiculus is transformed into a tiny one in cave-obligate species. Clypeal chaetae in Entomobryoidea are systematically surveyed for the first time, and are found to be well diversified at species level. They have a potential taxonomical value in discriminating taxa of morphologically conserved groups.
Two species of Tomoceridae were found near Dalat, southern Vietnam. Tomocerus ocreatus Denis, 1948 is redescribed based on a neotype specimen. Previous records of Tomocerus ocreatus in non-type localities are reevaluated. A new species Tomocerina annamitica sp. nov. is described. The new species is mainly characterized by its small body size, pointed tenent hair, compound dental spines and the absence of intermediate teeth on mucro.
Pyroghatsiana, a new genus of pyrochroine Pyrochroidae is described from the Southern Ghats of the Indian continental southern tip. The only known specimen is a female, Pyroghatsiana madurensis (Pic), new combination, originally placed in Dendroides Latreille, and subsequently transferred to Pseudodendroides Blair. Several striking differences including the dorsal interocular width between the compound eyes, shape and length of the third antennal segment, and shape of the pronotum preclude placement of Pyroghatsiana in either Dendroides, Pseudodendroides, or any other existing pyrochroine genus.
Der Animationsfilm ist ein von Grund auf synthetisches Medium: Alle visuellen Aspekte – und das wird besonders am Zeichentrickfilm deutlich – müssen zunächst künstlich erzeugt werden. Es müssen Serien syntagmatisch kohärenter Bewegungsphasenbilder hergestellt werden, ehe diese durch einzelbildweise Abfotografierung auf den Filmstreifen gebracht werden können, von wo aus sie sich dann unter geeigneten Vorführbedingungen als konsistenter, flüssiger Bewegungsablauf auf die Leinwand projizieren lassen. Was für den Bildbereich gilt, ist im Tonbereich grundsätzlich nicht anders. Auch die akustischen Komponenten eines Animationsfilms müssen zunächst künstlich hergestellt werden, bevor sie mit dem Bildmaterial zusammenkopiert werden können. Gespräche müssen bildsynchron eingesprochen, Geräusche erzeugt und Musik eingespielt werden, ehe sich der Animationsfilm als das audiovisuelle Medium konstituiert, als das man ihn seit den 1930er Jahren kennt.

Franz von Assisi is seen as a champion of charity in favour of the poor ones. However that is not true. Poverty has not to be eliminated but praised as the most essential quality of human existence.
Two Neoibidionini from Bolivia are described as new: Neocompsa schneppi sp. nov. and Tropidion nancyae sp. nov. The new species are compared to closely related species and previous keys by Martins and Galileo (2007, 2009) are modifi ed to include them. Illustrations of dorsal, ventral and lateral habitus, as well as head structures are included for both species. Comments are also included on color and pattern variation of each species.
The previously published list of Coleoptera holotypes in the Museo de Historia Natural, Noel Kempff Mercado (MNKM), Santa Cruz, Bolivia is updated to include those deposited in the Museo since then though the end of 2015. Literature citations for the original descriptions of each listed holotype are also provided along with summary comments regarding family composition and authorship of included species. Photographs of collector, authors, habitats, and major Bolivian type repositories are provided.
Taxonomic updates and descriptions of four new species from Yunnan, China are provided: three new species in the genus Pitambara Distant, 1906: P. triremiprocta Wang & Soulier-Perkins, sp. nov., P. impudica Wang & Bourgoin, sp. nov., P. tricorne Wang & Wang, sp. nov., and one new species in the genus Serida Walker, 1857: Serida parenthesisflexuosa Wang & Soulier-Perkins, sp. nov. A new identification key to Pitambara species is provided, as well as to the species of the genus Lacusa Stål, 1862. Lacusa yunnanensis Chou & Huang, 1985 stat. rev. is not considered as a synonym of the species L. fuscofasciata (Stål, 1854) anymore and Lacusa orientalis (Liang, 2000) is transferred to the genus Acothrura Melichar, 1915 as Acothrura orientalis (Liang, 2000) comb. nov.
The fossil sirenian material from the upper Oligocene Linz Sands of Upper Austria is reviewed and re-described in detail following a recent approach on the invalidity of the genus Halitherium Kaup, 1838. This morphological study provides the first evidence for the synonymy of “Halitherium” cristolii Fitzinger 1842, “H.” abeli Spillmann, 1959 and “H.” pergense (Toula, 1899), supporting the hypothesis that only a single species inhabited the late Oligocene shores of present-day Upper Austria. In the course of the taxonomic revision of the “Halitherium” species-complex, this taxon is now assigned to the new genus Lentiarenium Voss gen. nov. It represents a more derived sirenian compared to Eocene and early Oligocene taxa distributed across Central Europe and North Africa, which is in accordance with the stratigraphical data. An updated inventory list of all identifiable and referable skeletal material is provided, including a detailed synonymy list for the new taxonomic combination.
The Cranaidae genus Phalangodus Gervais, 1842 is revisited and its species are diagnosed. An identification key for the males of Phalangodus is provided. Four Colombian species are described as new: Phalangodus briareos sp. nov. from a cave in Zapatoca, Santander department, P. cottus sp. nov. from Villavicencio, Meta department, P. gyes sp. nov. from Ibagué, Tolima department and P. kuryi sp. nov. from Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Magdalena department. SEM images of the penis of Phalangodus, including the type species of the genus, P. anacosmetus Gervais, 1842, are provided for the first time. Sexual dimorphism and the morphology of stylar caps and ovipositor in Cranaidae are discussed. Additionally, we revised the geographical distribution of P. anacosmetus, including a map with the geographical records of the genus.
Two new species of the millipede genus Anamastigona are described, A. cypria sp. nov. and A. strasseri sp. nov., both from the island of Cyprus. The new species are considered to be most similar to A. terraesanctae Golovatch & Makarov, 2011 from Israel, the three of them forming a species group which is briefly characterized. An updated key to all 20 recognized species of the genus Anamastigona is provided and a short overview of the taxonomy of the genus is given.
New species of “giant” plume moths of the genus Platyptilia (Lepidoptera, Pterophoridae) from Uganda

This paper describes two new species of plume moths from the group of the so-called “giant” Platyptilia Hubner, 1825: Platyptilia fletcheri Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich sp. nov. and P. stanleyi Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich sp. nov. Both species were collected in the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda and Rwanda, respectively. Platyptilia stanleyi Ustjuzhanin & Kovtunovich sp. nov. exceeds all the known African species of Pterophoridae in its wingspan of 49 mm.
Die Erforschung der Biographie des Theologen Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906 – 1945) ist recht weit gediehen. Doch ein Aspekt seines Lebens und Wirkens ist bislang nicht genügend erforscht und gewürdigt worden.
Von 1939/40 an war er Mitarbeiter im Amt 'Ausland/Abwehr' im Oberkommando der Wehrmacht. Diese zu wenig beachtete Tätigkeit wird in diesem Beitrag genauer beschrieben. Der Entschluss des Theologen, in der militärischen Abwehr Dienst zu tun, wurde lange als familiär initiiert angesehen oder als Versuch, sich dem Kriegsdienst zu entziehen. Es wird aber gezeigt, daß sich Bonhoeffer sehr bewusst zur geheimdienstlichen Mitarbeit im militärischen Apparat "Abwehr" entschieden hatte, um auf diese Weise wirksam das Nazi-Regime Adolf Hitlers zu bekämpfen. Er war sich dabei der persönlichen Gefahren dieses konspirativen Engagements wohl bewußt. Bonhoeffer, so wird hier gezeigt, war demnach nicht nur Widerstandstheologe, sondern ein politischer Aktivist, der von Theologie und Kirche erwartete, dass sie entschieden situativ auf die Politik und das Weltgeschehen reagiere.
Since his death, Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906 – 1945) has grown to be one of the most fascinating, complex figures of the 20th century. But some decisions of his life stay in the dark. Why did he join the Military Secret Service in Germany and what lead him to the judgement, that the Regime of the Nazis could only be ended with the power of military force? The author shows Bonhoeffer as a situatively influenced personality and the measure of his ethics as situativ as well.
An updated classification of Polyalthia in Peninsular Malaysia is presented. A synopsis (listing of species with synonymy and typification, and keys to species) is presented for the genera Huberantha, Maasia, Monoon and Polyalthia sensu stricto. One new species (Polyalthia pakdin I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov.) is described and a conservation assessment presented for it. Monoon xanthopetalum Merr. represents a new record for Peninsular Malaysia. Six new lectotypes are designated.
The Iranian fauna of Cucujidae, Laemophloeidae, and Silvanidae (Coleoptera: Cucujoidea) are summarized in this paper. In total 2 species of Cucujidae (1 genus: Pediacus Shuckard), 6 species of Laemophloeidae (3 genera: Cryptolestes Ganglbauer, Laemophloeus Dejean, and Placonotus MacLeay) and 7 species of Silvanidae (6 genera: Uleiota Latreille, Psammoecus Latreille, Ahasverus Gozis, Nausibius Lentz, Oryzaephilus Ganglbauer, Psammoecus Latreille, and Silvanus Latreille) are listed in this paper. Synonymies and distribution data are given.
The genus Rhinolaemus Steel is revised. A new island and a new country record are presented for the type species, R. maculatus Steel. A new species, R. niueensis Thomas, new species, is described from Niue, and Rhinolaemus tuberculatus (Grouvelle), new combination, is transferred from Laemophloeus (sens. lat.). The members of the genus are illustrated and a key to their identification is presented.
Die nachfolgende Filmographie weist über 150 musikbezogene Lang- und Kurzfilme, Opernund Ballett-Adaptionen, Spiel-, Dokumentar und Animationsfilme, Komponisten- und Interpreten-Porträts von DEFA und ostdeutschem Fernsehen aus, die das vielfältige Musikleben in der DDR sowohl dokumentieren als auch nach den ideologischen Vorgaben und politischen Erwartungen im Sinne einer „sozialistischen Musikkultur“ interpretieren und modellieren. Unter
statistischem Aspekt ist davon auszugehen, dass künftig noch weitere Funde (speziell im Bereich des Kurzfilms und aus der Anfangszeit der ostdeutschen Filmproduktion) zu erwarten sind.
Aber schon jetzt widerspiegelt diese filmische Chronologie, die mit der Verfilmung von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts Oper „Die Hochzeit des Figaro“ 1949 beginnt und 1990 mit einem historischen Porträtfilm über denselben Komponisten schließt, wichtige Aspekte der DDR-Musikkultur mit ihrer sorgfältigen Erbe-Pflege, dem Leistungsvermögen international bekannter Klangkörper,
Chöre und Solisten, dem Bemühen um eine eigen geprägte Gegenwartsmusik und den Möglichkeiten und Grenzen einer dem Kommerz
weitgehend enthobenen, aber durch ökonomische und kulturpolitische Zwänge regulierten Musikszene. Ein auch für europäische Maßstäbe
reiches Musikleben gestalteten in diesem kleinen Land über 80 staatliche Sinfonie- und Rundfunkorchester, viele Berufschöre und zahlreiche professionelle Kammerensembles. Hinzu kamen angesehene Ausbildungsstätten wie die Musikhochschulen in Ost-Berlin, Dresden,
Leipzig und Weimar sowie ein flächendeckendes Netz aus (Volks-) Musikschulen. Für ein lebendiges Musiktheater verbürgten sich die vier renommierten Opernhäuser in Berlin, Leipzig und Dresden. Aber auch auf den 70 Bühnen der Drei-Sparten-Theater wurden Opern und Operetten auf gutem Niveau aufgeführt.
Palaeosynthemis opaca sp. nov., a new dragonfly from Papua New Guinea (Anisoptera: Synthemistidae)

A new species of the synthemistid genus Palaeosynthemis is described from the northern slopes of Papua New Guinea’s central cordillera. It is distinguished from all congeners by having females with large, nearly black patches at the bases of both wings. The male is most similar to P. cervula and P. feronia, but it differs from those species in having superior anal appendages less than three times as long as S10, basally enlarged and otherwise unarmed vs basally not enlarged (feronia) and almost four times as long as S10 and armed (cervula). Characters of the adults (both sexes) are illustrated and the affinities of the species are discussed.
Fifteen species of longhorn beetles (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) are reported for the fi rst time for Venezuela:
Ambonus electus (Gaham, 1903), Eusapia guyanensis Huedepohl, 1988, Acyphoderes abdominalis (Olivier, 1795), Isthmiade ichneumoniformis Bates, 1870, Drychateres bilineatus (Olivier, 1795), Polyschisis rufi tarsalis Waterhouse, 1880, Carphina petulans (Kirsch, 1875), Lepturges zonula Monné, 1976, Oreodera albata Villiers, 1971, Psapharochrus chrysopus (Bates, 1861), Estola fratercula Galileo y Martins, 1999, Oncideres cephalotes Bates, 1865, Polyrhaphis spinosa (Drury, 1773), Nicias alurnoides (Thomson, 1857) and Ialyssus tuberculatus (Olivier, 1795). The known prior distributions for each species, collecting methods and additional information on the collection sites of each specimen are also provided.
Carulaspis juniperi (Bouché) is newly documented as occurring in the Korean fauna of armored scales (Hemiptera: Diaspididae). The characters of this genus and species are redescribed based on specimens collected in Korea. In addition, four species of aphelinids (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) associated with C. juniperi were collected in Korea during the survey. Of these, Aphytis japonicus DeBach and Azim and Encarsia explorata (Silvestri) are recorded for the fi rst time from C. juniperi.
Andaspis recurrens Takagi and Kawai, Hypaspidiotus jordani (Kuwana), Lepidosaphes kamakurensis (Kuwana) and Selenomphalus distylii Takagi from warm temperate forests are newly documented in the Korean fauna of armored scale insects (Hemiptera: Diaspididae). Characteristics of these species are briefl y given and illustrative photographs and information on their distribution and hosts are provided.
Chionaspis acer (Takagi and Kawai) and Chionaspis wistariae Cooley, occurring respectively on Acer and Wisteria plants, are newly reported in the Korean fauna of armored scales (Hemiptera: Diaspididae). The characters of these species are briefl y redescribed with illustrative photographs and information on distribution and hosts. A dichotomous key to species of Chionaspis Signoret in Korea is provided for correct species identifi cation.
Advancement in science and technology that has been achieved by human beings does not necessarily imply they are freed from environmental problems. Buddhism since the very be-ginning has been in harmony with nature; the Buddha was fond of nature; however, it is very little its sources speak about the interconnection between human and environment. The ques-tion of the significance of cultural ecology comes into prominent in these days as there has been increasing environmental problems happen. Borobudur Buddhist temple in Central Java contains some ideas or elements that can be used to cope with the problems mentioned. Inter-estingly, the whole body of the monument was inspired by the teachings of the Buddha and Buddhism in which the Causal Law having impetus in the theory dependent-origination (Pratyasamutpada) is reflected clearly in the reliefs of Mahakarmavibangga in Kamadhatu base level. For a better understanding of this law, the connection with cosmology in Maha-yana Buddhism is discussed in brief. It is found that there are various natural elements were depicted and crafted by the artists in a high standard of art as the manifestations of the Bud-dha’s teachings. Amongst the natural elements depicted here, tree, plant, or forest are domi-nant elements, which appear almost in all reliefs either in the main walls or balustrade. The relatedness amongst the elements is shown beautifully in complex relationship amongst them, and this has moral, aesthetical, spiritual, and ecological messages that need to be known for spiritual ascendance. When the interaction amongst them should be accomplished it is re-quired an ethical principle as how to maintain harmony with those natural elements, animals and human beings for a better world order and happy life.
Dang Hyang Astapaka and his cultural geography in spreading Vajrayana Buddhism in medieval Bali

The sway of Hinduism and Buddhism in Indonesia archipelago had imprinted deep cultural heritages in various modes. The role of holy persons and kings were obvious in the spread of these religious and philosophical traditions. Dang Hyang Asatapaka, a Buddhist priest from East Java had travelled to Bali in spreading Vajrayana sect of Mahayana Buddhist in 1430. He came to Bali as the ruler of Bali invited him to officiate Homa Yajna together with his uncle Dang Hyang Nirartha, who had stayed earlier in Bali. Impressed with deep knowledge and spiritual acumen of him, the ruler Waturenggong King appointed him as a purohito (palace priest), whose jobs were to give spiritual consultation and political advisor in ruling the country. During his life times in Bali, he travelled from one place to another spreading Vajrayana sect of Buddhism. Lastly he settled in Budakeling village in East Bali where he built gerya (house) and temples for worship and meditation. From here he, his descents, and followers spread the Vajrayana to all over Bali and Lombok. He left us with Vajrayana sect of Buddhism, which was assimilated with Saivism. Dang Hyang Astapaka and his uncle Dang Hyang Nirartha were the advocators of Saiva-Buddha cult in Bali backed up by the rulers.
Notes on some species of Myzomorphus Sallé, 1850 (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Prioninae, Anacolini)

Notes on the type of Myzomorphus quadripunctatus (Gray, 1831) are provided, and a lectotype is designated for the species. The holotype male of M. poultoni Lameere, 1912, along with a second male, are fi gured for the fi rst time, and compared with M. gounellei Lameere, 1912. Notes on Myzomorphus amabilis (Tippmann, 1960) and a key to known males of Myzomorphus are also provided.
Macunahyphes zagaia sp. nov. and M. araca sp. nov. are described based on imagines collected from the Amazon biome in Brazil. Specimens belonging to all species of the genus were examined and a diagnosis for each one is provided. Variation seen in the male imago of M. eduardoi is described, as well as the female and egg for the first time. Together with M. eduardoi, the two new species share the presence of a basal swelling on segment II of the forceps, which raises important questions concerning the evolution of this character in Leptohyphidae. Finally, a re-definition of the genus is proposed.
The name Melolontha hypocrita Mannerheim, 1829 has been long unused, even though it is the type species of Hyporhiza Dejean, 1833. I examined the only known specimen from the type series and here designate it as the lectotype. Examination of this lectotype reveals that this species is best placed in the genus Rhinaspis Perty, 1830. Consequently, the genus Hyporhiza Dejean, 1833 is confi rmed as a junior synonym of Rhinaspis. Further, the replacement name Rhinaspis fuhrmanni is proposed for Rhinaspis hypocrita (Blanchard, 1850), a new secondary homonym of Rhinaspis hypocrita (Mannerheim, 1829). A homonymy problem was also discovered and corrected for the genus Plectris LePeletier and Serville, 1828. The replacement name Plectris schoolmeestersi is proposed for Plectris paraguayensis Moser, 1924, which is a secondary junior homonym of Plectris paraguayensis (Moser, 1921).
Two new species of the mexicanus group of Vaejovis C.L. Koch are described from the Madrean pine-oak forests of the Sierra Madre Occidental in the state of Durango, Mexico. These species, Vaejovis sierrae sp. nov. and Vaejovis mcwesti sp. nov., are distinguished from each other and the only other species of the mexicanus group known from this mountain range, Vaejovis montanus Graham and Bryson, by morphometrics, carinal development of the pedipalps, granulation of the metasoma, and body size. A key to the species of the mexicanus group from
the Sierra Madre Occidental is provided.
By taking Flavalona gen. nov. out of Alona s.l. (Cladocera: Anomopoda: Chydoridae), the last major clade has now been removed from this polyphyletic assemblage. Flavalona gen. nov. is a monophylum defined by having three, rarely two connected head pores and slit-shaped, rarely rounded lateral head pores. Postabdomen rather long, distally narrowed, with robust marginal denticles and weakly developed lateral fascicles of setules. End-claw weakly curved and with short basal spine. Male postabdomen with gonopores opening at the end of a penis-like outgrowth. Trunk limbs: exopodite of P2 with seta; inner portion of P4 with flaming-torch shaped setae; P5 with filter plate of three setae; P6 a large simple lobe. The relationship of the new genus with other Aloninae remains to be determined. A key to the 11 species of the genus is provided and a discussion of their geographic distribution and habitat type is given.
Eight species of the genus Notosemus Förster, 1869 (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) are reported, three of which are new to science: N. albimaculatus Sheng & Sun, sp. nov. and N. planus Sheng & Sun, sp. nov., both collected from Xizang Autonomous Region, SW China, and N. wugongicus Sheng & Sun, sp. nov., collected from Jiangxi Province, S China. One new record for China, N. bohemani (Wesmael, 1855), was reared from Zeiraphera griseana (Hübner, 1789) (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae), a leaf pest of Larix principis-rupprechtii Mayr. (Pinaceae) in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, NW China. A key to the species of the genus Notosemus is provided.
Parajulid milliped studies XI : Initial assessment of the tribe Gosiulini (Diplopoda: Julida)

The parajulid milliped tribe Gosiulini (Diplopoda: Julida) comprises two genera – Gosiulus Chamberlin, with three projections on the posterior gonopod and two species in the southcentral/southwestern United States (US) [Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas], and monotypic Minutissimiulus Shelley, n. gen., with two projections, in Nuevo León, Mexico. Gosiulus conformatus Chamberlin occupies the plains/fl atlands of Texas, while its congener inhabits high elevations to the west in all four US states. Both are anticipated in Mexico (Coahuila, Chihuahua, and Sonora), and G. conformatus is expected in southeastern Colorado, eastern New Mexico, and the Oklahoma panhandle. The eastern boundary of G. conformatus and the genus/tribe conforms to the western border of the Piney Woods biome in eastern Texas. As shown by the posterior gonopod drawing in the original description, Parajulus timpius Chamberlin, previously considered of “uncertain generic position or validity,” is unquestionably the oldest name for the western species. The anteriormost posterior gonopod projection, absent from Minutissimiulus, is considered the “prefemoral process,” while the “solenomere” and a third branch arise from a common base.
Because of positional homology with “process ‘C’” in Nesoressini, the last projection is accorded this name, which may also apply to the “prefemoral process” in Aniulini. Minutissimiulus biramus Shelley, n. sp., is proposed along with the following new subjective synonymies: Apacheiulus Loomis under Gosiulus; Ziniulus aethes and Z. medicolens, both by Chamberlin, and Z. ambiguus and Z. nati, both by Loomis, under G. conformatus; and A. pinalensis and A. guadelupensis, both by Loomis, under G. timpius, new combination. Ziniulus navajo Chamberlin becomes an objective synonym of P. timpius because its holotype is designated neotype of the latter. Minutissimiulus biramus Shelley is the fi rst Mexican gosiuline and “mainland” Mexican parajulid not in the tribe Parajulini.
The ant genus Trichomyrmex Mayr, 1865 is revised for the Arabian Peninsula based on the worker caste. Nine species are recognized and descriptions of two new species, T. almosayari sp. nov. and T. shakeri sp. nov. from Riyadh Province, Saudi Arabia, are given. For nomenclatural stability, lectotypes for T. abyssinicus (Forel, 1894a), T. lameerei (Forel, 1902) and T. mayri (Forel, 1902) are designated. A key to species and diagnostic characters of the treated species are presented. New country records are presented for T. abyssinicus (Saudi Arabia), T. destructor (Jerdon, 1851) (Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates) and T. mayri (Qatar). New distributional records for T. destructor and T. mayri for Saudi Arabia are also provided. World and regional species distributions are indicated and distributional maps for nine Arabian species are included. Ecological and biological information is given when known.
Specimens of Neurothemis disparilis Kirby, 1889, N. fluctuans (Fabricius, 1793), N. fulvia (Drury, 1773), N. ramburii (Brauer, 1866), N. stigmatizans (Fabricius, 1775) and N. terminata Ris, 1911, including their subspecies, were studied with the main focus on the morphology of the vesica spermalis, wing maculation, wing venation, abdominal markings and vulvar scales. The results were compared with species descriptions and directly with type specimens where possible. The vesica spermalis, especially the medial process, is useful at least in separating species groups and supports the traditional differentiation methods using wing maculation and venation. The use of other characters in accessing specific status, coupled with known distribution patterns, is discussed. The following taxonomic changes are proposed: Neurothemis manadensis (Boisduval, 1835) stat. nov., Neurothemis papuensis (Lieftinck, 1942) stat. nov. and Neurothemis taiwanensis sp. nov. is described (27.5.1998, Kenting, Pingtung County/Taiwan, L. M. Juang leg.; holotype is deposited at Taiwan Forestry Research Institute, Taipeh, Taiwan). The type of Polyneura palliata Rambur, 1842 was rediscovered at MNHN and designated as lectotype; a lectotype for Neurothemis nicobarica Brauer, 1867 housed at NHMW is designated. The holotype of Neurothemis incerta Brauer, 1867 was rediscovered and synonymized with N. ramburii.
