In light of the dramatic growth and rapid institutionalization of human-animal studies in recent years, it is somewhat surprising that only a small number of publications have proposed practical and theoretical approaches to teaching in this inter- and transdisciplinary field. Featuring eleven original pedagogical interventions from the social sciences and the humanities as well as an epilogue from ecofeminist critic Greta Gaard, the present volume addresses this gap and responds to the demand by both educators and students for pedagogies appropriate for dealing with environmental crises. The theoretical and practical contributions collected here describe new ways of teaching human-animal studies in different educational settings and institutional contexts, suggesting how learners - equipped with key concepts such as agency or relationality - can develop empathy and ethical regard for the more-than-human world and especially nonhuman animals. As the contributors to this volume show, these cognitive and affective goals can be achieved in many curricula in secondary and tertiary education. By providing learners with the tools to challenge human exceptionalism in its various guises and related patterns of domination and exploitation in and outside the classroom, these interventions also contribute to a much-needed transformation not only of today's educational systems but of society as a whole. This volume is an invitation to beginners and experienced instructors alike, an invitation to (re)consider how we teach human-animal studies and how we could and should prepare learners for an uncertain future in, ideally, a more egalitarian and just multispecies world.

Harriet Rudolph (né en 1966) étudie l’histoire et l’histoire de l’art à Tübingen et Londres. Après son doctorat obtenu en 1999, elle devient maître de conférences en histoire moderne à l’Université de Trèves. Après l’obtention de son habilitation en 2008, elle enseigne aux Universités de Francfort-sur-le-Main, Sarrebruck et Innsbruck. Depuis 2012, Harriet Rudolph occupe la chaire d’histoire moderne de Ratisbonne. Ses thèmes de recherche sont : les cultures politiques en Europe, l’histoire des médias et l’iconographie historique, les cultures festives urbaines et de cour, l’histoire de la diplomatie, l’histoire juridique, en particulier relative au droit pénal et à la pratique judiciaire. ...
Michael Stolleis – notice

Der Jurist Michael Stolleis (geb. 1941) gilt als einer der international führenden Rechtshistoriker auf dem Gebiet des öffentlichen Rechts. Bis zu seiner Emeritierung 2006 lehrte er als Professor für Öffentliches Recht und Rechtsgeschichte an der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main. Von 1991 bis Ende 2009 leitete er das Max-Planck-Institut für europäische Rechtsgeschichte. Michael Stolleis ist Mitglied zahlreicher Akademien der Wissenschaften in verschiedenen Ländern und ist Teil des Redaktionsgremiums mehrerer Fachzeitschriften und Reihen. Seine Hauptarbeitsgebiete liegen in den Bereichen Öffentliches Recht (Sozialrecht), Juristische Zeitgeschichte und Neuere Rechtsgeschichte (insbesondere Wissenschaftsgeschichte des öffentlichen Rechts).
In dem vorliegenden Band mit dem Titel „Prähistorische Konfliktforschung – Bronzezeitliche Burgen zwischen Taunus und Karpaten“ werden die Beiträge der Ersten Internationalen Tagung zum LOEWE-Schwerpunkt „Prähistorische Konfliktforschung“ in Frankfurt/a. En 1943, Friedrich H. Tenbruck (1914-1994) obtient sa thèse de philosophe à l’Université de Marburg. Dans les années 1950, il se tourne vers la sociologie, devient entre autres pour quelques mois l’assistant de Max Horkheimer à l’Université de Francfort-sur-le-Main. Puis il occupe pendant cinq ans un poste de professeur assistant à Geneva/New York. Après son retour, en 1962, il est habilité à la direction de recherches avec un travail sur histoire et société en sociologie et sciences sociales à Fribourg, puis occupe à partir de 1963 la chaire de sociologie à l’Université de Francfort-sur-le-Main. En 1967, il devient professeur à l’Université de Tübingen. ...
Klaus Lichtblau - notice

Klaus Lichtblau (né en 1951) étudie entre autres auprès de Niklas Luhmann à l’université de Bielefeld, sous la direction duquel il rédige son mémoire de sociologie en 1975. En 1980, toujours à Bielefeld, il soutient sa thèse de doctorat en philosophie, puis travaille dans un premier temps à l’université de Bielefeld, puis aux universités de Kassel et de Kiel. En 1996, il obtient son habilitation en sociologie à l’université de Kassel. Depuis 2004, Klaus Lichtblau est professeur de sociologie à l’Université de Francfort-sur-le-Main. Ses travaux de recherche s’axent autour de l’histoire des sciences sociales des XIXe et XXe siècles. Il porte un intérêt particulier aux classiques (Max Weber, Georg Simmel et Karl Mannheim, entre autres). Par ailleurs, il s’intéresse aux dimensions culturelles du social, à la fonction sociale de l’art, à la sociologie économique, etc.
