In this study, we determine spectral characteristics and amplitude decays of wind turbine induced seismic signals in the far field of a wind farm (WF) close to Uettingen/Germany. Average power spectral densities (PSD) are calculated from 10 min time segments extracted from (up to) 6-months of continuous recordings at 19 seismic stations, positioned along an 8 km profile starting from the WF. We identify 7 distinct PSD peaks in the frequency range between 1 Hz and 8 Hz that can be observed to at least 4 km distance; lower-frequency peaks are detectable up to the end of the profile. At distances between 300 m and 4 km the PSD amplitude decay can be described by a power law with exponent b. The measured b-values exhibit a linear frequency dependence and range from b = 0.39 at 1.14 Hz to b = 3.93 at 7.6 Hz. In a second step, the seismic radiation and amplitude decays are modeled using an analytical approach which approximates the surface-wave field. Since we observe temporally varying phase differences between seismograms recorded directly at the base of the individual wind turbines (WTs), source-signal phase information is included in the modeling approach. We show that phase differences between source signals have significant effects on the seismic radiation pattern and amplitude decays. Therefore, we develop a phase-shift-elimination-method to handle the challenge of choosing representative source characteristics as an input for the modeling. To optimize the fitting of modeled and observed amplitude decay curves, we perform a grid search to constrain the two model parameters, i.e., the seismic shear wave velocity and quality factor. The comparison of modeled and observed amplitude decays for the 7 prominent frequencies shows very good agreement and allows to constrain shear velocities and quality factors for a two-layer model of the subsurface. The approach is generalized to predict amplitude decays and radiation patterns for WFs of arbitrary geometry.

Muitas vezes, instituições escolares e políticas supervalorizam a norma padrão, raramente reconhecendo a legitimidade da variação linguística. Entretanto, a variação (histórica, geográfica, social ou estilística), sendo inerente a todas as línguas, não pode ser ignorada. Em sala de aula, tanto de língua materna quanto de língua estrangeira, é necessário abordar a variação, de modo que o aluno possa usar a língua em contextos diversificados e realísticos, sem criar uma versão estereotipada. Assim, o objetivo deste artigo é compreender se e em que contextos as diferentes variedades da língua alemã se concretizam em dois livros didáticos para o ensino como língua estrangeira, um para adolescentes e outro para adultos. O método da pesquisa é de cunho quanti-qualitativo, estabelecendo uma visão panorâmica da variação e analisando o tratamento dado a ela em atividades selecionadas. Os resultados sugerem que os livros abordam apenas alguns aspectos da variação geográfica e estilística. Na discussão, são problematizados esses resultados, com o intuito de auxiliar professores na avaliação e no manejo de materiais didáticos com relação à variação linguística.
New World lampyrid taxonomy faces severe taxonomic impediments. Most species remain known from original taxonomic descriptions only, often insufficient for accurate identification. Therefore, the study of type specimens is critical to ensure proper identification. The Russian entomologist Viktor Ivanovich Motschulsky was one of the most important authors of firefly (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) taxonomy during the XIXth century, and his work is still relevant today. Part of his material, including the type specimens of several species, is deposited at the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Unlike their European, Asian, and Oceanian counterparts, the taxonomy of Neotropical fireflies is still in its infancy, partly due to largely outdated literature and difficulties in accessing type specimens. Here, we review the type specimens of 38 firefly species deposited at ZIN, 15 of which are holotypes and 7 are lectotypes. For each specimen, the name-bearing status, condition of preservation, as well as the associated label data are provided. Lectotypes are designated for the following species described by Motschulsky: Bicellonycha lividipennis, Ellychnia californica, Lychnuris klugii, Macrolampis longipennis, Pseudolychnuris suturalis, Telephoroides lineaticollis, Telephoroide occidentalis.
O Direito liberal procede da ideia kantiana de um acordo de arbítrios conforme uma lei de liberdade externa, assegurando a ideia de um radicalismo pós-religioso de legitimidade e sem fundamentos metafísicos (Nozick). Habermas aproveita os sentidos do Direito liberal de Nozick e Kant, liberdade e não fundacionismo e associa a crítica ao Direito socialista a uma visão construtiva que, assim como Rawls (e seu pluralismo razoável), busca pensar as pretensões de um Direito democrático no espaço público. Superando a dicotomia socialista-liberal do século XX, Habermas busca manter a democracia e a pós-metafísica como elementos de um Direito pluralista que através do procedimentalismo institucionalizador das conquistas do espaço público movido pela razão comunicativa, possa assegurar as pretensões de legitimação da liberdade com as necessárias visões da “Teoria Crítica” sobre a legitimação da democracia no capitalismo tardio, preservando as autonomias pública e privada da tradição republicana e liberal de Kant.
This paper is an "interested" reading of "The Critique of Judgement" – "interested", because, unlike what has become usual in recent decades, it strives to disassociate the Kantian concept of "free beauty" from any interpretation of it as an early defense of abstract art. It is also "interested" because, instead of exposing (once more) the framework of the "Kritik der Urteilskraft", it tries to show how the Third Kantian Critique can be taken as a basis for something that was not part of its original purpose: reviewing the idea of mimesis itself. For that, the understanding of the Kantian sublime (das Erhabene) will be decisive: understood initially as one of the modalities of aesthetic experience, the other being beauty, the sublime progressively distances itself from the latter. If beauty and the sublime are to be thematized independently of "determining judgement", in which the properties of the object impose themselves upon the subject, the modalities of aesthetic experience suppose, on the contrary, the primacy of the subject. This implies gradations: from the experience of harmony propitiated by beauty up through the "negative pleasure" of the sublime, both poles through which reality is reworked by the subject. At the pole of beauty, "representation" of reality still plays a prominent role. At the pole of the "negative pleasure" of the sublime, "representation" is subordinated to the power of "presentation". However, both kinds of experience, the one of beauty and the other of the sublime, belong to the same field of aesthetic experience, because in both of them the subject reworks – does not discard – what comes to him from the outside: it will be necessary to understand "Vorstellung" always as an experience in which the exterior will be transformed by the subject. That is, the representation of the Third Critic will always be an effectual representation. In the sublime as much as in "free beauty", the metamophosis of the exterior by the subject achieves its maximum level without meaning that the external pole – that we usually call "world" or "reality" – disappears. It will thus be necessary to rethink the concept of mimesis in order to understand the metamorphosis of the world performed by radicalization of the aesthetic experience through "free beauty".
Gamma synchronization has generally been associated with grouping processes in the visual system. Here, we examine in monkey V1 whether gamma oscillations play a functional role in segmenting surfaces of plaid stimuli. Local field potentials (LFPs) and spiking activity were recorded simultaneously from multiple sites in the opercular and calcarine regions while the monkeys were presented with sequences of single and superimposed components of plaid stimuli. In accord with the previous studies, responses to the single components (gratings) exhibited strong and sustained gamma-band oscillations (30–65 Hz). The superposition of the second component, however, led to profound changes in the temporal structure of the responses, characterized by a drastic reduction of gamma oscillations in the spiking activity and systematic shifts to higher frequencies in the LFP (~10% increase). Comparisons between cerebral hemispheres and across monkeys revealed robust subject-specific spectral signatures. A possible interpretation of our results may be that single gratings induce strong cooperative interactions among populations of cells that share similar response properties, whereas plaids lead to competition. Overall, our results suggest that the functional architecture of the cortex is a major determinant of the neuronal synchronization dynamics in V1. Nesse ensaio pretendemos apresentar aquilo que entendemos ser o estatuto teórico da Teoria Crítica e, a partir disso, explorar o diálogo que Jürgen Habermas faz com essa tradição. Através da apresentação das proposições de Max Horkheimer, Theodor Adorno e Herbert Marcuse, pretendemos evidencias como Habermas tem assumido o compromisso ético-político pela transformação social e pela emancipação humana que caracteriza o projeto frankfurtiano desde a primeira geração, assim como por meio da crítica aos antigos mestres elabora a ampliação do significado da racionalidade a partir de um novo marco de interpretação, para além da redução à razão instrumental. Finalmente, com essa discussão poderemos assinalar como sua proposta para a Teoria Crítica oferece elementos imprescindíveis para a contrução de uma Psicologia Social Crítica.
