• Der Beitrag nimmt kritisch Stellung zu der These, bei dem Ausgang von Goethes Drama "Stella" handle es sich um eine literarische Utopie, und differenziert zwischen der idealistischen Annahme eines Heilszustandes, der sich nur poetisch formulieren lässt, und einer Eschatologie, die mit rationalen Mitteln auf einen ethischen Problemlösungsbedarf antwortet. Die poetische Utopie lässt sich in der Figur der Stella, die im Stück als Personifikation von Güte, Liebe und Gottheit vorgestellt wird, verorten. Was zunächst nur eine subjektive Utopie Fernandos darstellt, wird im Verlauf des Dramas über verschiedene soziale Interaktionen einem sozialen und temporalen Generalisierungsversuch unterworfen. Das zentrale Interaktionsmuster ist die Sympathie Cezilies mit Stella, die auf einer gemeinsamen Empfindungserkenntnis (Consensus) aufbaut; hier kann die Analyse zur Erforschung der Freundschafts- und Liebeskonzeptionen im 18. Jahrhundert beitragen. Ebenfalls unter dem Aspekt der Objektivitätsproblematik lässt sich schließlich Goethes Umarbeitung zum Trauerspiel plausibilisieren.
• This essay takes critical issue with the theory that the conclusion of Goethe’s play "Stella" is a literary utopia and distinguishes between the idealistic assumption of a state of salvation which can only be formulated poetically and an eschatology that is replying with rational means to the ethical need for problem-solving. The poetic utopia can be made manifest in the figure of Stella, who is presented in the play as the personification of goodness, love and godliness. What at first represents merely Fernando´s subjective utopia is in the course of the drama subjected to the attempt to give it general social and temporal validity by means of various social interactions. The central pattern of interaction is Cezilie´s sympathy for Stella, which is based on a mutual recognition of feeling (consensus); in this way the analysis can contribute to an examination of the concepts of friendship and love in the eighteenth century. Finally, it is also under this aspect of the problem of objectivisation that Goethe´s reworking of Stella into a tragedy can be made plausible.
