Based on (10087±44)×106 J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, the process J/ψ→γπ+π−η′ is studied using two dominant decay channels of the η′ meson, η′→γπ+π− and η′→ηπ+π−,η→γγ. The X(2600) is observed with a statistical significance larger than 20σ in the π+π−η′ invariant mass spectrum, and it has a strong correlation to a structure around 1.5 GeV/{\it c}2 in the π+π− invariant mass spectrum. A simultaneous fit on the π+π−η′ and π+π− invariant mass spectra with the two η′ decay modes indicates that the mass and width of the X(2600) state are 2617.8±2.1+18.2−1.9 MeV/{\it c}2 and 200±8+20−17 MeV, respectively. The corresponding branching fractions are measured to be B(J/ψ→γX(2600))⋅B(X(2600)→f0(1500)η′)⋅B(f0(1500)→π+π−) = (3.39±0.18+0.91−0.66)×10−5 and B(J/ψ→γX(2600))⋅B(X(2600)→f′2(1525)η′)⋅B(f′2(1525)→π+π−) = (2.43±0.13+0.31−1.11)×10−5, where the first uncertainties are statistical, and the second systematic.
Measurement of cross sections for e⁺e⁻ → μ⁺μ⁻ at center-of-mass energies from 3.80 to 4.60 GeV
(2020)
The observed cross sections for 𝑒+𝑒−→𝜇+𝜇− at energies from 3.8 to 4.6 GeV are measured using data samples taken with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider. We measure the muonic widths and determine the branching fractions of the charmonium states 𝜓(4040), 𝜓(4160), and 𝜓(4415) decaying to 𝜇+𝜇−, as well as making a first determination of the phase of the amplitudes. In addition, we observe evidence for a structure in the dimuon cross section near 4.220 GeV/𝑐2, which we denote as 𝑆(4220). Analyzing a coherent sum of amplitudes yields eight solutions, one of which gives a mass of 𝑀𝑆(4220) = 4216.7±8.9±4.1 MeV/𝑐2, a total width of Γtot S(4220) = 47.2±22.8±10.5 MeV, and a muonic width of Γ𝜇𝜇 𝑆(4220) = 1.53±1.26±0.54 keV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The eight solutions give the central values of the mass, total width, muonic width to be, respectively, in the range from 4212.8 to 4219.4 MeV/𝑐2, from 36.4 to 49.6 MeV, and from 1.09 to 1.53 keV. The statistical significance of the 𝑆(4220) signal is 3.9𝜎. Correcting the total dimuon cross section for radiative effects yields a statistical significance for this structure of 8.1𝜎.
We measured the branching fractions of the decays χcJ→Σ−Σ¯+ for the first time using the final states nn¯π+π−. The data sample exploited here is 448.1×106 ψ(3686) events collected with BESIII. We find B(χcJ→Σ−Σ¯+)=(51.3±2.4±4.1)×10−5,(5.7±1.4±0.6)×10−5,and (4.4±1.7±0.5)×10−5, for J=0,1,2, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.
A narrow structure in the pΛ¯ system near the mass threshold, named as X(2085), is observed in the process e+e−→pK−Λ¯ with a statistical significance greater than 20σ. Its spin and parity are determined for the first time to be JP=1+ in an amplitude analysis, with statistical significance greater than 5σ over other quantum numbers. The pole positions of X(2085) are measured to be Mpole=(2086±4±6)~MeV and Γpole=(56±5±16) MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The analysis is based on the study of the process e+e−→pK−Λ¯ and uses the data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energies s√=4.008, 4.178, 4.226, 4.258, 4.416, and 4.682 GeV with a total integrated luminosity of 8.35 fb−1.
The cross sections of the process e+e−→K0SK0L are measured at fifteen center-of-mass energies s√ from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV with the BESIII detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII). The results are found to be consistent with those obtained by BaBar. A resonant structure around 2.2 GeV is observed, with a mass and width of 2273.7±5.7±19.3 MeV/c2 and 86±44±51 MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The product of its radiative width (Γe+e−) with its branching fraction to K0SK0L (BrK0SK0L) is 0.9±0.6±0.7 eV.
Based on 14.7 fb−1 of e+e− annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at 17 different center-of-mass energies between 3.7730 GeV and 4.5995 GeV, Born cross sections of the two processes e+e−→pp¯η and e+e−→pp¯ω are measured for the first time. No indication of resonant production through a vector state V is observed, and upper limits on the Born cross sections of e+e−→V→pp¯η and e+e−→V→pp¯ω at the 90% confidence level are calculated for a large parameter space in resonance masses and widths. For the current world average parameters of the ψ(4230) of m=4.2187 GeV/c2 and Γ=44 MeV, we find upper limits on resonant production of the pp¯η and pp¯ω final states of 7.5 pb and 10.4 pb at the 90% CL, respectively.
Based on (448.1±2.9)×106 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, the decay ψ(3686)→ϕK0SK0S is observed for the first time. Taking the interference between ψ(3686) decay and continuum production into account, the branching fraction of this decay is measured to be B(ψ(3686)→ϕK0SK0S) = (3.53 ± 0.20 ± 0.21)×10−5, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Combining with the world average value for B(J/ψ→ϕK0SK0S), the ratio B(ψ(3686)→ϕK0SK0S)/B(J/ψ→ϕK0SK0S) is determined to be (6.0±1.6)%, which is suppressed relative to the 12% rule.
The Born cross sections of the process e+e−→D∗0D∗−π+ at center-of-mass energies from 4.189 to 4.951 GeV are measured for the first time. The data samples used correspond to an integrated luminosity of 17.9fb−1 and were collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Three enhancements around 4.20, 4.47 and 4.67 GeV are visible. The resonances have masses of 4209.6±4.7±5.9MeV/c2, 4469.1±26.2±3.6MeV/c2 and 4675.3±29.5±3.5MeV/c2 and widths of 81.6±17.8±9.0MeV, 246.3±36.7±9.4MeV, and 218.3±72.9±9.3MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The first and third resonances are consistent with the ψ(4230) and ψ(4660) states, respectively, while the second one is compatible with the ψ(4500) observed in the e+e−→K+K−J/ψ process. These three charmoniumlike ψ states are observed in e+e−→D∗0D∗−π+ process for the first time.
Study of ψ(3686) → ΛΛ¯ω
(2022)
Based on a data sample of (448.1±2.9)×106 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the branching fraction of ψ(3686)→ΛΛ¯ω is measured to be (3.30±0.34(stat.)±0.29(syst.))×10−5 for the first time. In addition, the Λω (or Λ¯ω) invariant mass spectra is studied and the potential presence of excited Λ states has been investigated.
Measurements of the electric and magnetic form factors of the neutron for timelike momentum transfer
(2023)
We present the first measurements of the electric and magnetic form factors of the neutron in the time-like (positive q2) region as function of four-momentum transfer. We explored the differential cross sections of the reaction e+e−→n¯n with data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII accelerator, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 354.6 pb−1 in total at twelve center-of-mass energies between s√=2.0−2.95 GeV. A relative uncertainty of 18% and 12% for the electric and magnetic form factors, respectively, is achieved at s√=2.3935 GeV. Our results are comparable in accuracy to those from electron scattering in the comparable space-like (negative q2) region of four-momentum transfer. The electromagnetic form factor ratio Rem≡|GE|/|GM| is within the uncertainties close to unity. We compare our result on |GE| and |GM| to recent model predictions, and the measurements in the space-like region to test the analyticity of electromagnetic form factors.
Using e+e− annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−1 taken at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the first measurements of the branching fractions of the inclusive decays D0→π+π+π−X and D+→π+π+π−X, where pions from K0S decays have been excluded from the π+π+π− system and X denotes any possible particle combination. The branching fractions of D0(D+)→π+π+π−X are determined to be B(D0→π+π+π−X)=(17.60±0.11±0.22)% and B(D+→π+π+π−X)=(15.25±0.09±0.18)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.
Using a data sample of e+e− collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19 fb−1 collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we search for the production of deuterons and antideuterons via e+e−→ppπ−d¯+c.c. for the first time at center-of-mass energies between 4.13 and 4.70 GeV. No significant signal is observed and the upper limit of the e+e−→ppπ−d¯+c.c. cross section is determined to be from 9.0 to 145 fb depending on the center-of-mass energy at the 90% confidence level.
The first direct measurement of the absolute branching fraction of Σ+→Λe+νe is reported based on an e+e− annihilation sample of (10087±44)×106 J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at s√=3.097 GeV. The branching fraction is determined to be B(Σ+→Λe+νe)=[2.93±0.74(stat)±0.13(syst)]×10−5, which is the most precise measurement obtained in a single experiment to date and also the first result obtained at a collider experiment. Combining this result with the world average of B(Σ−→Λe−ν¯e) and the lifetimes of Σ±, the ratio, Γ(Σ−→Λe−ν¯e)Γ(Σ+→Λe+νe), is determined to be 1.06±0.28, which is within 1.8 standard deviations of the value expected in the absence of second-class currents that are forbidden in the Standard Model.
Analyzing (448.1±2.9)×106 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the ψ(3686)→ωK0SK0S decay is observed for the first time. The branching fraction for this decay is determined to be Bψ(3686)→ωK0SK0S=(7.04±0.39±0.36)×10−5, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.
We report a measurement of the observed cross sections of e+ e− → J/ψX based on 3.21 fb − 1 of data accumulated at energies from 3.645 to 3.891 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider. In analysis of the cross sections, we measured the decay branching fractions of B(ψ(3686) → J/ψX) = (64.4 ± 0.6 ± 1.6)% and B(ψ(3770) → J/ψX) = (0.5 ± 0.2 ± 0.1)% for the first time. The energy-dependent line shape of these cross sections cannot be well described by two Breit-Wigner (BW) amplitudes of the expected decays ψ (3686) → J/ψX and ψ(3770) → J/ψX. Instead, it can be better described with one more BW amplitude of the decay R(3760)→ J/ψX. Under this assumption, we extracted the R (3760) mass M R (3760 ) = 3766.2 ± 3.8 ± 0.4 MeV/c2, total width Γ tot R ( 3760 ) = 22.2 ± 5.9 ± 1.4 MeV, and product of leptonic width and decay branching fraction
ΓeeR(3760) B[R(3760) → J/ψX] = (79.4 ± 85.5 ± 11.7) eV. The significance of the R(3760) is 5.3σ. The first uncertainties of these measured quantities are from fits to the cross sections and second systematic.
We present the first search for the semileptonic decay D+s→π0e+νe using a data sample of electron-positron collisions recorded with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226~GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.32~fb−1. This decay is expected to be sensitive to π0--η mixing. No significant signal is observed. We set an upper limit of 6.4×10−5 on the branching fraction at the 90% confidence level.
Measurement of the e⁺e⁻ → ωπ⁰π⁰ cross section at center-of-mass energies from 2.0 to 3.08 GeV
(2022)
The cross section of the process e+e−→ωπ0π0 is measured at nineteen center-of-mass energies from 2.0 to 3.08 GeV using data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. A resonant structure around 2.20 GeV is observed with statistical significance larger than 5σ. Using a coherent fit to the cross section line shape, the mass and width are determined to be M=2222±7±2 MeV/c2 and Γ=59±30±6 MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic.
The decays 𝜒𝑐𝐽→Σ0¯𝑝𝐾++c.c. (𝐽=0,1,2) are studied via the radiative transition 𝜓(3686)→𝛾𝜒𝑐𝐽 based on a data sample of (448.1±2.9)×106 𝜓(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector. The branching fractions of 𝜒𝑐𝐽→Σ0¯𝑝𝐾++c.c. (𝐽=0,1,2) are measured to be (3.03±0.12±0.15)×10−4, (1.46±0.07±0.07)×10−4, and (0.91±0.06±0.05)×10−4, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. In addition, no evident structure is found for excited baryon resonances on the two-body subsystems with the limited statistics.
We search for rare decays of D mesons to hadrons accompany with an electron-positron pair (h(h')e+e−), using an e+e− collision sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−1 collected with the BESIII detector at s√ = 3.773 GeV. No significant signals are observed, and the corresponding upper limits on the branching fractions at the 90% confidence level are determined. The sensitivities of the results are at the level of 10−5∼10−6, providing a large improvement over previous searches.
Cross sections of the process 𝑒+𝑒−→𝜋0𝜋0𝐽/𝜓 at center-of-mass energies between 3.808 and 4.600 GeV are measured with high precision by using 12.4 fb−1 of data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider facility. A fit to the measured energy-dependent cross sections confirms the existence of the charmoniumlike state 𝑌(4220). The mass and width of the 𝑌(4220) are determined to be (4220.4±2.4±2.3) MeV/𝑐2 and (46.2±4.7±2.1) MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The mass and width are consistent with those measured in the process 𝑒+𝑒−→𝜋+𝜋−𝐽/𝜓. The neutral charmonium-like state 𝑍𝑐(3900)0 is observed prominently in the 𝜋0𝐽/𝜓 invariant-mass spectrum, and, for the first time, an amplitude analysis is performed to study its properties. The spin-parity of 𝑍𝑐(3900)0 is determined to be 𝐽𝑃=1+, and the pole position is (3893.1±2.2±3.0)−𝑖(22.2±2.6±7.0) MeV/𝑐2, which is consistent with previous studies of electrically charged 𝑍𝑐(3900)±. In addition, cross sections of 𝑒+𝑒− → 𝜋0𝑍𝑐(3900)0 → 𝜋0𝜋0𝐽/𝜓 are extracted, and the corresponding line shape is found to agree with that of the 𝑌(4220).
Measurement of e⁺e⁻ → ϕη′ cross sections at center-of-mass energies
between 3.508 and 4.600 GeV
(2023)
We present a measurement of the dressed cross sections for e+e−→ϕη′ at different center-of-mass energies between 3.508 and 4.600 GeV based on 15.1 fb−1 of e+e− annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. In addition, a search for the decay Y(4230)→ϕη′ is performed. No clear signal is observed and the corresponding upper limit is provided.
We study ηc production at center-of-mass energies s√ from 4.18 to 4.60 GeV in e+e− annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, corresponding to 7.3 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. We measure the cross sections of the three different exclusive reactions e+e−→ηcπ+π−π0, e+e−→ηcπ+π−, and e+e−→ηcπ0γ. We find significant ηc production in e+e−→ηcπ+π−π0 at s√ of 4.23 GeV and 4.26 GeV and observe a significant energy-dependent Born cross section that we measure to be consistent with the production via the intermediate Y(4260) resonance. In addition, we perform a search for a charmonium-like Zc state close to the DD¯ threshold that decays to ηcπ, involving ground state charmonium, and observe no signal. Corresponding upper limits on the cross section of ηc and Zc production are provided, where the yields are not found to be significant.
Based on 2.93~fb−1 e+e− collision data taken at center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV by the BESIII detector, we report the measurements of the absolute branching fractions of D0→K+K−π0π0, D0→K0SK0Sπ+π−, D0→K0SK−π+π0, D0→K0SK+π−π0, D+→K+K−π+π0, D+→K0SK+π0π0, D+→K0SK−π+π+, D+→K0SK+π+π−, and D+→K0SK0Sπ+π0. The decays D0→K+K−π0π0, D0→K0SK−π+π0, D0→K0SK+π−π0, D+→K0SK0Sπ+π0, and D+→K0SK+π0π0 are observed for the first time. The branching fractions of the decays D0→K0SK0Sπ+π−, D+→K+K−π+π0, D+→K0SK−π+π+, and D+→K0SK+π+π− are measured with improved precision compared to the world-average values.
From 1310.6×106 J/ψ and 448.1×106 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII experiment, we report the first observation of Σ+ and Σ¯− spin polarization in e+e−→J/ψ(ψ(3686))→Σ+Σ¯− decays. The relative phases of the form factors ΔΦ have been measured to be (−15.5±0.7±0.5)∘ and (21.7±4.0±0.8)∘ with J/ψ and ψ(3686) data, respectively. The non-zero value of ΔΦ allows for a direct and simultaneous measurement of the decay asymmetry parameters of Σ+→pπ0 (α0=−0.998±0.037±0.009) and Σ¯−→p¯π0 (α¯0=0.990±0.037±0.011), the latter value being determined for the first time. The average decay asymmetry, (α0−α¯0)/2, is calculated to be −0.994±0.004±0.002. The CP asymmetry ACP,Σ=(α0+α¯0)/(α0−α¯0)=−0.004±0.037±0.010 is extracted for the first time, and is found to be consistent with CP conservation.
The Born cross sections and effective form factors for process 𝑒+𝑒−→Ξ−¯Ξ+ are measured at eight center-of-mass energies between 2.644 and 3.080 GeV, using a total integrated luminosity of 363.9 pb−1 𝑒+𝑒− collision data collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII. After performing a fit to the Born cross section of 𝑒+𝑒−→Ξ−¯Ξ+, no significant threshold effect is observed.
Improved measurement of the branching fractions of the inclusive decays D⁺ → Kₛ⁰X and D⁰ → Kₛ⁰X
(2023)
By analyzing 2.93 fb−1 of 𝑒+𝑒− collision data taken at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, the branching fractions of the inclusive decays 𝐷+→𝐾0 𝑆𝑋 and 𝐷0→𝐾0 𝑆𝑋 are measured to be (33.11±0.13±0.36)% and (20.75±0.12±0.20)%, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are consistent with the world averages of previous measurements, but with much improved precision.
Observation of resonance structures in e⁺e⁻ → π⁺π⁻ψ₂(3823) and mass measurement of ψ₂(3823)
(2022)
Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 11.3 fb−1 collected at center-of-mass energies from 4.23 to 4.70 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the product of the 𝑒+𝑒−→𝜋+𝜋−𝜓2(3823) cross section and the branching fraction ℬ[𝜓2(3823)→𝛾𝜒𝑐1]. For the first time, resonance structure is observed in the cross section line shape of 𝑒+𝑒−→𝜋+𝜋−𝜓2(3823) with significances exceeding 5𝜎. A fit to data with two coherent Breit-Wigner resonances modeling the √𝑠-dependent cross section yields 𝑀(𝑅1)=4406.9±17.2±4.5 MeV/𝑐2, Γ(𝑅1)=128.1±37.2±2.3 MeV, and 𝑀(𝑅2)=4647.9±8.6±0.8 MeV/𝑐2, Γ(𝑅2)=33.1±18.6±4.1 MeV. Though weakly disfavored by the data, a single resonance with 𝑀(𝑅)=4417.5±26.2±3.5 MeV/𝑐2, Γ(𝑅)=245±48±13 MeV is also possible to interpret data. This observation deepens our understanding of the nature of the vector charmoniumlike states. The mass of the 𝜓2(3823) state is measured as (3823.12±0.43±0.13) MeV/𝑐2, which is the most precise measurement to date.
Using an 𝑒+𝑒− collision data sample with a total integrated luminosity of 3.19 fb−1 collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 4.178 GeV, the branching fraction of the inclusive decay of the 𝐷+𝑠 meson to final states including at least three charged pions is measured for the first time to be ℬ(𝐷+𝑠→𝜋+𝜋+𝜋−𝑋)=(32.81±0.35stat±0.63syst)%. In this measurement the charged pions from 𝐾0𝑆 meson decays are excluded. The partial branching fractions of 𝐷+𝑠→𝜋+𝜋+𝜋−𝑋 are also measured as a function of the 𝜋+𝜋+𝜋− invariant mass.
Based on a data sample of (1.0087±0.0044)×1010 𝐽/𝜓 events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII accelerator, the absolute branching fraction (BF) of the decay 𝐽/𝜓→𝛾𝜂 is measured with high precision using events in which the radiative photon converts to 𝑒+𝑒−. Using the measured absolute BF of 𝐽/𝜓→𝛾𝜂, the absolute BFs of four dominant 𝜂 decay modes are measured for the first time. The results are ℬ(𝐽/𝜓→𝛾𝜂)=(1.067±0.005±0.023)×10−3, ℬ(𝜂→𝛾𝛾)=(39.86±0.04±0.99)%, ℬ(𝜂→𝜋0𝜋0𝜋0)=(31.96±0.07±0.84)%, ℬ(𝜂→𝜋+𝜋−𝜋0)=(23.04±0.03±0.54)%, and ℬ(𝜂→𝜋+𝜋−𝛾)=(4.38±0.02±0.10)%, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The results are consistent with the world average values within two standard deviations.
Using data samples with an integrated luminosity of 6.4~fb−1 collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, the process of e+e−→γϕJ/ψ is studied. The processes of e+e−→ϕχc1,c2, χc1,c2→γJ/ψ are observed with a significance of more than 10σ. The s√-dependent cross section of e+e−→ϕχc1,c2 is measured between 4.600 and 4.951~GeV, and evidence of a resonance structure is found for the first time in the ϕχc2 process. We also search for the processes of e+e−→γX(4140), γX(4274) and γX(4500) via the γϕJ/ψ final state, but no obvious structures are found. The upper limits on the production cross section times the branching fraction for these processes at the 90% confidence level are reported.
Using e+e− annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.32 fb−1 collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.178 GeV and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we perform the first amplitude analysis of the decay D+s→K0SK+π0 and determine the relative branching fractions and phases for intermediate processes. We observe the a0(1710)+, the isovector partner of the f0(1710) and f0(1770) mesons, in its decay to K0SK+ for the first time. In addition, we measure the ratio B(D+s→K¯∗(892)0K+)B(D+s→K¯0K∗(892)+) to be 2.35+0.42−0.23stat.±0.10syst.. Finally, we provide a precision measurement of the absolute branching fraction B(D+s→K0SK+π0)=(1.46±0.06stat.±0.05syst.)%.
We study the direct production of the JPC=1++ charmonium state χc1(1P) in electron-positron annihilation by carrying out an energy scan around the mass of the χc1(1P). The data were collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. An interference pattern between the signal process e+e−→χc1(1P)→γJ/ψ→γμ+μ− and the background processes e+e−→γISRJ/ψ→γISRμ+μ− and e+e−→γISRμ+μ− are observed by combining all the data samples. The χc1(1P) signal is observed with a significance of 5.1σ. This is the first observation of a C-even state directly produced in e+e− annihilation. The electronic width of the χc1(1P) resonance is determined to be Γee=(0.12+0.13−0.08) eV, which is of the same order of magnitude as theoretical calculations.
We report a search for a heavier partner of the recently observed Zcs(3985)− state, denoted as Z′−cs, in the process e+e−→K+D∗−sD∗0+c.c., based on e+e− collision data collected at the center-of-mass energies of s√=4.661, 4.682 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector. The Z′−cs is of interest as it is expected to be a candidate for a hidden-charm and open-strange tetraquark. A partial-reconstruction technique is used to isolate K+ recoil-mass spectra, which are probed for a potential contribution from Z′−cs→D∗−sD∗0 (c.c.). We find an excess of Z′−cs→D∗−sD∗0 (c.c.) candidates with a significance of 2.1σ, after considering systematic uncertainties, at a mass of (4123.5±0.7stat.±4.7syst.) MeV/c2. As the data set is limited in size, the upper limits are evaluated at the 90\% confidence level on the product of the Born cross sections (σBorn) and the branching fraction (B) of Z′−cs→D∗−sD∗0, under different assumptions of the Z′−cs mass from 4.120 to 4.140 MeV and of the width from 10 to 50 MeV at the three center-of-mass energies. The upper limits of σBorn⋅B are found to be at the level of O(1) pb at each energy. Larger data samples are needed to confirm the Z′−cs state and clarify its nature in the coming years.
Using 448 million ψ(2S) events, the spin-singlet P-wave charmonium state hc(11P1) is studied via the ψ(2S)→π0hc decay followed by the hc→γηc transition. The branching fractions are measured to be BInc(ψ(2S)→π0hc)×BTag(hc→γηc)=(4.22+0.27−0.26±0.19)×10−4 , BInc(ψ(2S)→π0hc)=(7.32±0.34±0.41)×10−4, and BTag(hc→γηc)=(57.66+3.62−3.50±0.58)%, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The hc(11P1) mass and width are determined to be M=(3525.32±0.06±0.15) MeV/c2 and Γ=(0.78+0.27−0.24±0.12) MeV. Using the center of gravity mass of the three χcJ(13PJ) mesons (M(c.o.g.)), the 1P hyperfine mass splitting is estimated to be Δhyp=M(hc)−M(c.o.g.)=(0.03±0.06±0.15) MeV/c2, which is consistent with the expectation that the 1P hyperfine splitting is zero at the lowest-order.
Using a data sample of 448.1 × 106 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the first observation of the electromagnetic Dalitz decay ψ(3686) → η e+e−, with significances of 7.0σ and 6.3σ when reconstructing the η meson via its decay modes η → γπ+π− and η → π+π−η (η → γγ ), respectively. The weighted average branching fraction is determined to be B(ψ(3686) → η e+e−) = (1.90 ± 0.25 ± 0.11) × 10−6, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
The decays J/ψ→ηΣ+Σ¯− and ψ(3686)→ηΣ+Σ¯− are observed for the first time, using (10087±44)×106 J/ψ and (448.1±2.9)×106 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. We determine the branching fractions of these two decays to be B(J/ψ→ηΣ+Σ¯−)=(6.34±0.21±0.37)×10−5 and B(ψ(3686)→ηΣ+Σ¯−)=(9.59±2.37±0.61)×10−6, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The ratio of these two branching fractions is determined to be B(ψ(3686)→ηΣ+Σ¯−)B(J/ψ→ηΣ+Σ¯−)=(15.1±3.8)%, which is in agreement with the "12\% rule."
Using a sample of (10.09±0.04)×109 J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, a partial wave analysis of the decay J/ψ→γηη′ is performed. The first observation of an isoscalar state with exotic quantum numbers JPC=1−+, denoted as η1(1855), is reported in the process J/ψ→γη1(1855) with η1(1855)→ηη′. Its mass and width are measured to be (1855±9+6−1)MeV/c2 and (188±18+3−8)MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic, and its statistical significance is estimated to be larger than 19σ.
The baryonic decay D+s→pn¯ is observed, and the corresponding branching fraction is measured to be (1.21±0.10±0.05)×10−3, where the first uncertainty is statistical and second systematic. The data sample used in this analysis was collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII e+e− double-ring collider with a center-of-mass energy of 4.178~GeV and an integrated luminosity of 3.19~fb−1. The result confirms the previous measurement by the CLEO Collaboration and is of greatly improved precision, which may deepen our understanding of the dynamical enhancement of the W-annihilation topology in the charmed meson decays.
In Ref. [1] the BESIII collaboration published a cross section measurement of the process e+e− → π+π− in the energy range between 600 and 900 MeV. In this corrigendum, we report a corrected evaluation of the statistical errors in terms of a fully propagated covariance matrix. The correction also yields a reduced statistical uncertainty for the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, which now reads as aππ,LO μ (600 − 900 MeV) = (368.2 ± 1.5stat ± 3.3syst) × 10−10. The central values of the cross section measurement and of aππ,LO μ , as well as the systematic uncertainties remain unchanged.
Based on a sample of (10.09±0.04)×109 J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, a partial wave analysis of the decay J/ψ→γηη′ is performed. An isoscalar state with exotic quantum numbers JPC=1−+, denoted as η1(1855), has been observed for the first time with statistical significance larger than 19σ. Its mass and width are measured to be (1855±9+6−1)~MeV/c2 and (188±18+3−8)~MeV, respectively. The product branching fraction B(J/ψ→γη1(1855)→γηη′) is measured to be (2.70±0.41+0.16−0.35)×10−6. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. In addition, an upper limit on the branching ratio B(f0(1710)→ηη′)/B(f0(1710)→ππ) is determined to be 1.61×10−3 at 90\% confidence level, which lends support to the hypothesis that the f0(1710) has a large glueball component.
Using 7.33 fb−1 of e+e− collision data collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226~GeV, we observe for the first time the decay D±s→ωπ±η with a statistical significance of 7.6σ. The measured branching fraction of this decay is (0.54±0.12±0.04)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.
A determination of the CP-even fraction F+ in the decay D0→K+K−π+π− is presented. Using 2.93 fb−1 of e+e−→ψ(3770)→DD¯ data collected by the BESIII detector, one charm meson is reconstructed in the signal mode and the other in a CP eigenstate or the decay D→K0S,Lπ+π−. Analysis of the relative rates of these double-tagged events yields the result F+=0.730±0.037±0.021, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This is the first model-independent measurement of F+ in D0→K+K−π+π− decays.
Using 4.7 fb−1 of e+e− collision data at center-of-mass energies from 4.661 to 4.951 GeV collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we observe the X(3872) production process e+e−→ωX(3872) for the first time. The significance is 7.8σ, including both the statistical and systematic uncertainties. The e+e−→ωX(3872) Born cross section and the corresponding upper limit at 90\% confidence level at each energy point are reported. The line shape of the cross section indicates that the ωX(3872) signals may be from the decays of some non-trivial structures.
Production of the doubly charged Δ baryon in e⁺e⁻ annihilation at energies from 2.3094 to 2.6464 GeV
(2023)
The processes e+e−→Δ++Δ¯−− and e+e−→Δ++p¯π−+c.c. are studied for the first time with 179 pb−1 of e+e− annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies from 2.3094 GeV to 2.6464 GeV. No significant signal for the e+e−→Δ++Δ¯−− process is observed and the upper limit of the Born cross section is estimated at each energy point. For the process e+e−→Δ++p¯π−+c.c., a significant signal is observed at center-of-mass energies near 2.6454 GeV and the corresponding Born cross section is reported.
Using 2.93fb−1 of e+e− collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773\,GeV with the BESIII detector, we present a measurement of the branching fraction of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed (DCS) decay D0→K+π−π0 and a search for the DCS decay D0→K+π−π0π0. The branching fraction of D0→K+π−π0 is determined to be [3.13+0.60−0.56(stat)±0.09(syst)]×10−4. No signal is observed for D0→K+π−π0π0 and an upper limit of 3.6×10−4 is set on the branching fraction at the 90\% C.L. We combine these results with the world-average branching fractions of their counterpart Cabibbo-favored decays to determine the ratios of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed over the Cabibbo-favored branching fractions, B(D0→K+π−π0)/B(D0→K−π+π0)=(0.22±0.04)%~and B(D0→K+π−π0π0)/B(D0→K−π+π0π0)<0.40% at the 90\% C.L., which correspond to (0.75±0.14)tan4θC~and 1.37×tan4θC, respectively, where θC is the Cabibbo angle.
We present the first search for the leptonic decays D∗+→e+νe and D∗+→μ+νμ by analyzing a data sample of electron-positron collisions recorded with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.32~fb−1. No significant signal is observed. The upper limits on the branching fractions for D∗+→e+νe and D∗+→μ+νμ are set to be 1.1×10−5 and 4.3×10−6 at 90\% confidence level, respectively.
Using a data sample collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, the Born cross section of the process 𝑒+𝑒−→𝜂𝐽/𝜓 at a center-of-mass energy √𝑠=3.773 GeV is measured to be (8.88±0.87±0.42) pb. We fit the cross section line shape before correcting for the initial state radiation from √𝑠=3.773 to 4.600 GeV to obtain the branching fraction ℬ(𝜓(3770)→𝜂𝐽/𝜓). We obtain ℬ(𝜓(3770)→𝜂𝐽/𝜓)=(11.3±5.9±1.1)×10−4 when the 𝜓(3770) decay amplitude is added coherently to the other contributions, and (8.7±1.0±0.8)×10−4 when it is added incoherently. Here the quoted uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In both cases, the statistical significance of 𝜓(3770) resonance is above 7𝜎. This is the first time the decay 𝜓(3770)→𝜂𝐽/𝜓 is observed with a statistical significance greater than 5𝜎.
The singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Λ+c→nπ+ is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of 7.3σ by using 3.9 fb−1 of e+e− collision data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.612 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector at BEPCII. The branching fraction of Λ+c→nπ+ is measured to be (6.6±1.2stat±0.4syst)×10−4. By taking the upper limit of branching fractions of Λ+c→pπ0 from the Belle experiment, the ratio of branching fractions between Λ+c→nπ+ and Λ+c→pπ0 is calculated to be larger than 7.2 at the 90% confidence level, which disagrees with the current predictions of available phenomenological models. In addition, the branching fractions of the Cabibbo-favored decays Λ+c→Λπ+ and Λ+c→Σ0π+ are measured to be (1.31±0.08stat±0.05syst)×10−2 and (1.22±0.08stat±0.07syst)×10−2, respectively, which are consistent with previous results.
Measurement of e⁺e⁻ → ΛΛ¯η from 3.5106 to 4.6988 GeV and study of ΛΛ¯ mass threshold enhancement
(2023)
Using data samples with a total integrated luminosity of approximately 18 fb−1 collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII, the process e+e−→ΛΛ¯η is studied at center-of-mass energies between 3.5106 and 4.6988 GeV. The Born cross section for the process e+e−→ΛΛ¯η is measured. No significant structure is observed in the Born cross section line shape. An enhancement near the ΛΛ¯ mass threshold is observed for the first time in the process. The structure can be described by an S-wave Breit-Wigner function. Neglecting contribution of excited Λ states and potential interferences, the mass and width are determined to be (2356±7±17) MeV/c2 and (304±28±54) MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.
