Anhand der Konstruktion von Joan of Arc in Saint Joan untersucht dieser Artikel, wie George Bernard Shaw die Position einer Außenseiterin nutzt, um seine geschlechtspolitischen und ästhetischen Ziele zu verdeutlichen. Im Vergleich mit älteren Darstellungen der französischen Nationalheldin wird Shaws spezifische Rezeption des Jeanne-d’Arc-Mythos skizziert und dargestellt, wie Shaw Joans geschlechtliche Differenz als Fortsetzung seiner Kritik an Geschlechternormen entwickelt. Aufbauend darauf präsentiert Shaw Joan zudem als mentale Ausnahmefigur, über deren Visionen ein anderer Begriff des Realismus stark gemacht wird, mit dem Shaw sein eigenes schriftstellerisches Wirken identifiziert.
Innerhalb der Reihe "GrenzBereiche des Lesens" gehaltener Vortrag. "GrenzBereiche des Lesens" ist eine kulturwissenschaftliche Vortragsreihe, die 2003 und 2004 an der Universität Frankfurt stattfand. In ihrem Beitrag zu Spannungsliteratur und Lesepraxen um 1800 entwirft Ute Dettmar aus kultursoziologischer Perspektive ein Bild von der Vielfalt und Dynamik der kulturellen, literarischen und diskursiven Praxen des ausgehenden 18. Jahrhunderts. Die Gleichzeitigkeit von ästhetisch-normierender Auseinandersetzung um die Faszination des Schrecklichen, von aufgeklärter Lesekritik und einer unbefangenen bürgerlichen Lese- und Theaterpraxis, die sich nicht an das vorgegebene Maß und die Grenzen eines autonomieästhetisch konstituierten Kunstbegriffs hält, charakterisiert das spannungsreiche Mit- und Gegeneinander dieser Umbruchzeit. Anhand der Lektüre populärer Räuberromane erweist sich, dass Grenzziehungen zwischen hoch- und unterhaltungskulturellen Textverwendungsweisen weder in Hinblick auf Stoffe und Gattungen, noch in Hinblick auf die lesende Öffentlichkeit hier bereits rigide gezogen sind.

Les données de l’effet d’affaiblissement de l’obviation (ou encore référence disjointe du subjonctif) dans la littérature linguistique sont soit fondées sur l’intuition des auteurs soit issues de publications d’autres chercheurs, bien que cet effet soit connu depuis longtemps et bien qu’il fasse partie de plusieurs modélisations théoriques. En conséquence, aucune réponse de nature empirique/expérimentale a été offerte à la question « A quel point les affirmations portant sur l'effet d'affaiblissement de l'obviation sont-elles solides ? ». Cet article se fixe en conséquence un double objectif : (i) mettre en oeuvre un jugement de grammaticalité afin de répondre expérimentalement à la question précédente, et (ii) proposer une analyse syntaxique provisoire des résultats obtenus. Ici, nous étudions six facteurs qui – selon Ruwet (1984/1991) – déclenchent l’affaiblissement. Les résultats montrent que seul un facteur (la coordination) déclenche l’affaiblissement. En conséquence, l’appareil théorique permettant de modéliser l’affaiblissement peut être réduit radicalement, et nous proposons des pistes de modélisation syntaxique n’intégrant que le facteur de coordination
Andrea Gremels entrevista a la Milena Rodríguez Gutiérrez, poeta cubana, crítica literaria y editora de la antología Otra Cuba secreta: antología de poetas cubanas del XIX y del XX (2011). Desde una perspectiva profesional y personal Rodríguez Gutiérrez, que vive en Granada, responde a las preguntas acerca de la diáspora cubana, del canon literario nacional y de las implicaciones del cambio para las escritoras y escritores dentro y fuera de la isla. Además, presenta a los lectores dos poemas suyos, ambos dedicados a Cuba: “Preguntas desde el otro lado de la cocina” y “Cuba”.
Es ist die erste Poetikdozentur, die der Schweizer Schriftsteller übernimmt. Mit großer Spannung werden daher Christian Krachts Vorlesungen an der Goethe-Universität erwartet. Er wird vom 15. – 22. Mai in drei Vorträgen über die Entstehungsgrundlagen, die Einflüsse und die Fluchtpunkte seiner literarischen Arbeit sprechen.
»Landkarte des Holocaust«

Im Rahmen des Holocaust-Gedenktages wurde an der Goethe-Universität der Film »Back to Berlin. Better by bike than by train« von Catherine Lurie aufgeführt. Die Dokumentation aus dem Jahre 2018 zeigt die Reise elf jüdischer Motorradfahrer von Tel Aviv nach Berlin, wo 2015 die erste Makkabiade, ähnlich der Olympischen Spiele, in Deutschland seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg stattfand. Die deutsche Erstaufführung der Doku wurde realisiert in Kooperation mit Nicole Faktor, Vorstand der WIZO (Women´s International Zionist Organization)-Gruppe Frankfurt. Vinzenz Hediger, Filmwissenschaftler an der Goethe-Universität, erläutert den Hintergrund des Films.
Im Juni spricht der Leipziger Schriftsteller Clemens Meyer im Rahmen der Frankfurter Poetikvorlesungen über den „Untergang der Äkschn GmbH“. Meyers ungewöhnliche Biographie und seine Romane über Leipziger Jugendgangs, Prostituierte und Zuhälter versprechen interessante Vorträge. Wir haben ihm vorab einige Fragen gestellt – seine mitunter forschen Antworten deuten jedenfalls an, dass der Autor sein Publikum bestimmt nicht langweilen wird.
