“Shades” of Postmortem Personal Identity: ψυχή καὶ εἴδωλον in the Dream Passage (Il. 23.103-104)
(2013)
In a recent contribution entitled, “Homer’s Challenge to Philosophical Psychology,” Fred Miller proposes an “aporetic approach” to the Homeric poems. That is to say, a close reading of the epics reveals “serious aporiai,” at least insofar as philosophical consistency is concerned. Homeric readers, ancient and modern alike, have found irreconcilably-different answers to our perennial questions about humanity and divinity, fate and free will. To his credit, Miller rightly relieves Homer of an undue burden – viz., that of addressing the philosophical problems of later generations. “The analysis of concepts and the resolution of aporiai”: these are, as Miller notes, definitively not the priorities of an epic bard. Instead, such poets, working freely within the parameters of their oral traditions, understandably use language in ways not strictly-philosophical. Ultimately, Miller wants to argue that the ambiguities of Homer’s poetic language hastened Greece’s philosophical awakening...
Pokračujúc v zámere predchádzajúceho príspevku tento text otvára znova problém recepcie Kantovho vymedzenia kategórie vznešeného. Variácie, ktoré vykonávajú Schopenhauer, Nietzsche a Adorno predstavujú inovatívne prístupy. Premostenie dejín tejto estetickej kategórie do 20.storočia v myslení sledovaných autorov predstavuje funkčnosť vznešeného v premenách umeleckého a estetického diskurzu a nabáda k jeho aktualizovaniu v súčasnosti.

Übersetzung von Rechtstexten
(2013)
The Romanian folk poetry, especially the Romanian folk ballad raised the interest of German translators in the 19th century, who proved the size of their talent by translating the ballads in German and by popularizing them among the German readers in the country and abroad. The paper focuses on aspects of translation motifs of five German authors (W. von Kotzebue, C.F.W. Rudow, A. Franken, A. Forstenheim, Carmen Sylva) taking into account their life experiences, professional commitments and friendship for the Romanians. The study aims to highlight the principles and difficulties of translation as a result of the authors’ wish to translate the original text as accurately as possible and as close as possible to the spirit of the Romanian folk poetry.
Literature is not only a refuge of good, beauty and truth, it is, at the same time, a place of radical and extreme aspects. It contains uncontrollable forces, which are contrary to the classical ideal of harmony. Extremist poetics do not appear in the context of the conformal biographies. Biography and aesthetic, literature and life are closely connected, their tendency are going into the identity of the author as an artist of the extremes. The present study will exemplify the concept of “extremist literature”, respective “aesthetically extremism” on the basis of the drama Pastor Ephraim Magnus (1919) written by Hans Henny Jahnn (1894-1959).
