Based on morphological and molecular data we investigated the species boundaries in the genus Ochraethes Chevrolat, 1860. The species delimitation with cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) data supports some synonymies and highlights the existence of a high phenotypic plasticity in some species. The following species are considered as new junior synonyms: O. virescens (Chevrolat, 1860) syn. nov. of O. brevicornis (Chevrolat, 1860), O. octomaculata Chemsak & Noguera 2001 syn. nov. of Ochraethes cinereolus (Bates, 1892) comb. nov., O. zebratus Bates, 1885 syn. nov. of O. obliquus (Chevrolat, 1860), Trichoxys giesberti Botero, Santos-Silva & Wappes, 2019 syn. nov. of O. sommeri (Chevrolat, 1835), O. clerinus (Bates, 1892) of O. viridiventris (Chevrolat, 1860), O. cristoforii (Chevrolat, 1860) syn. nov. and O. litura Bates, 1885 syn. nov. of O. z-littera (Chevrolat, 1860). Two new species are described from Mexico: Ochraethes confusus sp. nov., and Ochraethes nigroapicalis sp. nov.
A new Mexican species of Ochraethes Chevrolat, 1860 (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Cerambycinae, Clytini) is described: Ochraethes skillmani Wappes, Santos-Silva and Botero. Plocaederus mirim Martins and Monné, 2002 (Cerambycini) is redescribed and its female is figured for the first time. New geographical records in Plocaederus Dejean, 1835 are also provided.
Plesioclytus morrisi Wappes and Skelley new species (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) from the Ohoopee dune system in central Georgia is described with comments on the biology of the new species. The taxonomic placement of Plesioclytus Giesbert in the tribe Clytini is questioned as key characters are found to differ from the current characters used to define the tribe in the New World, resulting in its transfer to the newly erected Plesioclytini Wappes and Skelley new tribe, defined herein. Habitat photos for the new species and habitus photos for it and P. relictus Giesbert are provided.
Xylotrechus rameyi, new species, (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is described from southern Utah. Comments on its biology including habitat, host plants and larval history are provided along with photographs of the holotype, allotype, the related species X. insignis LeConte, and the larval galleries and pupal chamber.
Megacyllene (Megacyllene) cryptofrasciata n. sp. from Argentina is described and illustrated. M. quinquefasciata (Melzer, 1931), and Megacyllene rotundicollis Zajciw, 1963 are transferred from the subgenus Megacyllene Casey 1912 to Sierracyllene Tippmann, 1960. Megacyllene (SierracylZene) tafivallensis n. sp. is described from northwestern Argentina. Dexithea spixii (Laporte & Gory, 1836), and Plagionotus latreillei (Laporte & Gory, 1836) are transferred to Megacyllene (sensu stricto), excluding Dexithea, and Plagionotus from the South American fauna of Clytini. Neoclytus famelicus (Burmeister, 1865) is synonymized with N. ypsilon Chevrolat, 1861. Additional new records of Clytini from Argentina, Paraguay, and Ecuador are also presented here. A key for subgenera and species of Megacyllene is included, with distribution maps for Argentina and nearby countries.
