In the title compound, C27H20F6N2O2, the dihedral angles between the planes of the aromatic rings connected by the ether O atoms are 84.13 (8) and 75.06 (9)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by N-H...O and N-H...F hydrogen bonds. Key indicators: single-crystal X-ray study; T = 173 K; mean σ(C–C) = 0.004 Å; R factor = 0.037; wR factor = 0.088; data-to-parameter ratio = 8.2.
4-(4-Nitrophenoxy)biphenyl
(2009)
The two phenyl rings of the biphenyl unit of the title compound, C18H13NO3, are almost coplanar [dihedral angle 6.70 (9)°]. The nitrophenyl ring, on the other hand, is significantly twisted out of the plane of the these two rings, making dihedral angles of 68.83 (4)° with the middle ring and 62.86 (4)° with the end ring. The nitro group is twisted by 12.1 (2)° out of the plane of the phenyl ring to which it is attached. Key indicators: single-crystal X-ray study; T = 173 K; mean σ(C–C) = 0.002 A° ; R factor = 0.040; wR factor = 0.118; data-to-parameter ratio = 12.8.
6-(4-Nitrophenoxy)hexanol
(2009)
The title compound, C12H17NO4, features an almost planar molecule (r.m.s. deviation for all non-H atoms = 0.070 Å). All methylene C-C bonds adopt an antiperiplanar conformation. In the crystal structure the molecules lie in planes parallel to (1\overline{1}2) and the packing is stabilized by O-H...O hydrogen bonds. Key indicators: single-crystal X-ray study; T = 173 K; mean σ(C–C) = 0.003 Å; R factor = 0.066; wR factor = 0.185; data-to-parameter ratio = 13.2.
The title compound, C14H11NO4, crystallizes with two molecules in the asymmetric unit. The major conformational difference between these two molecules is the dihedral angle between the aromatic rings, namely 36.99 (5) and 55.04 (5)°. The nitro groups are coplanar with the phenyl rings to which they are attached, the O—N—C—C torsion angles being -1.9 (3) and 1.0 (3)° in the two molecules.
This essay is concerned with the state of the concept of »work« in the realm. of literature. Around 1800, "work" becomes a central reflective category in the field of literature, as well as in philosophical and literary aesthetics. In the last two decades of the 18th century, especially within Goethe's and Schiller's classicist concepts of literature, "work" and "art"/"poetry" are generally considered unconnected, as is an economic and aesthetic attitude towards nature. Where the spheres of "art"/"poetry" and "work" are linked to each other this relationship is defined as one of opposition, as can be seen especially in Goethe's novel Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre and in Schiller's essay Über die ästhetische Erziehung des Menschen. This changes significantly with the re-conceptualization of literature by the German Early Romantics. Not only does the sphere of "work" - now regarded as something meaningful - become at this moment in the course of the· evolution of the literary system an eminent topic within literature and literary aesthetics, the poetic activity itself becomes - suddenly - conceptualized as "work" and the writer thought of as a "worker". This essay first raises the question of what cultural changes might follow the approaching end of the "working society" in Western societies before proceeding to this important turning point in the self-conceptualization of the literary system in relation to the modem concept of "work".
This paper provides a joint analysis of household stockholding participation, stock location among stockholding modes, and participation spillovers, using data from the US Survey of Consumer Finances. Our multivariate choice model matches observed participation rates, conditional and unconditional, and asset location patterns. Financial education and sophistication strongly affect direct stockholding and mutual fund participation, while social interactions affect stockholding through retirement accounts only. Household characteristics influence stockholding through retirement accounts conditional on owning retirement accounts, unlike what happens with stockholding through mutual funds. Although stockholding is more common among retirement account owners, this fact is mainly due to their characteristics that led them to buy retirement accounts in the first place rather than to any informational advantages gained through retirement account ownership itself. Finally, our results suggest that, taking stockholding as given, stock location is not arbitrary but crucially depends on investor characteristics. JEL Classification: G11, E21, D14, C35
Recently, pertussis has become a problem also in the adult population, with incidences even higher than in children. Pediatric health care workers (HCWs) are an important source of transmission, exposing very young and immunocompromised patients to an increased risk of potentially severe pertussis infections. Encouraging HCWs to get vaccinated can play a vital role in stopping the transmission of pertussis, thereby reducing institutional outbreaks.
In Germany, HCWs come up with all sorts of reasons for not getting pertussis vaccination. This study was meant to provide information in order to better understand the backgrounds of these attitudes.
A survey was conducted at the children's university hospital in Frankfurt, using an anonymous questionnaire. Survey results were used to design an intervention to increase the immunization rate of staff. Disappointingly, our efforts to increase the acceptance of the immunization program by providing information in advance were not yet satisfying.
Misconception about pertussis vaccination was prevalent especially among nursing staff. The main reasons for non-compliance included: unawareness of an own risk of infection, the belief that pertussis is not a serious illness, fear of side effects, the belief that the pertussis vaccine might trigger the pertussis disease itself, and skepticism about the efficacy of the pertussis vaccination.
Neue Nachweise der Gerandeten Wasserspinne Dolomedes plantarius in Brandenburg (Araneae: Pisauridae)
(2009)
The great raft spider, Dolomedes plantarius (Clerck, 1757), is a rare and endangered species in Germany and other European countries. Current data on its distribution and ecology are briefly reviewed. Five new (or overlooked) localities for this spider from the Spreewald-region of Brandenburg in eastern Germany are provided, together with an updated distribution map. One record, based on the authors’ own collections, is described and figured in detail, with the egg-carrying female discovered in reeds at the edge of a fairly large body of open water. Both direct and indirect protective measures for the habitats of this species in the Spreewald-region are recommended.
