(Chilopoda: Geophilidae sensu stricto) is described based on three specimens from two localities in south-western Sardinia, examined by light and scanning electron microscopy. The new centipede resembles the rare Ibero-Pyrenean genus Galliophilus Ribaut & Brolemann, 1927 in some features, especially in the forcipular segment, and the temperate European species Geophilus electricus (Linnaeus, 1758) in other features, especially in the ultimate leg-bearing segment. However, the true affinities of E. ichnusae gen. et sp. nov. are uncertain, because the new species departs significantly from the majority of geophilids for the higher number of legs (91–107 pairs in the specimens examined), the slender trunk segments (the sternites being longer than wide), the relatively stout legs (the tarsus being only about twice as long as wide) and the very short setae (≤ 15 mm) scattered on the body surface. All these features are probably derived and suggest adaptation to a more strictly endogeic habit than other geophilids.
One new genus and five new species of land snails are described from high altitude, insular, Afrotemperate forest habitats in northern South Africa. The distribution of these species is discussed in relation to other narrowly endemic land snails occurring in this and neighbouring regions. The new genus is Ptilototheca gen. nov.; the five new species are: Gulella davisae sp. nov., G. hadroglossa sp. nov., Ptilototheca soutpansbergensis gen. et sp. nov., Sheldonia monsmaripi sp. nov. and S. wolkbergensis sp. nov.
The genus Profundiconus Kuroda, 1956 is reviewed. The morphological characters of the shell, radular tooth and internal anatomy of species in Profundiconus are discussed. In particular, we studied Profundiconus material collected by dredging in deep water during different scientific campaigns carried out in the Solomon Islands, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia. We reconstructed a phylogeny of 55 individuals based on partial mitochondrial cox1 gene sequences. The phylogeny shows several clades containing individuals that do not match any of the known species of Profundiconus based on their shell and radular morphologies, and are introduced here as five new species: Profundiconus maribelae sp. nov. from the Solomon Islands; P. virginiae sp. nov. from Chesterfield Plateau (New Caledonia); P. barazeri sp. nov. from Chesterfield Plateau and the Grand Passage area (New Caledonia); P. puillandrei sp. nov. from Norfolk Ridge (New Caledonia), Kermadec Ridge (New Zealand) and possibly Balut Island (Philippines); and P. neocaledonicus sp. nov. from New Caledonia. Furthermore, Profundiconus teramachii forma neotorquatus (da Motta, 1984) is raised to specific status as P. neotorquatus (da Motta, 1984).
In the present study, a total of 153 species of Alysiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) from Denmark are catalogued. Two species are described as new for science: Aspilota leptoarticulata Munk & Peris-Felipo sp. nov. and A. grandis Munk & Peris-Felipo sp. nov. Additionally, 38 alysiine species are recorded for the first time for the Danish fauna. A faunistic list with distribution data and host records is provided.
The present work provides the first record of the genus Dinotrema Foerster, 1862 in the Neotropical region. Four new Neotropical species are described and illustrated: D. multiareolatum Peris-Felipo sp. nov., D. plaumanni Peris-Felipo sp. nov., D. subbidentatum Peris-Felipo sp. nov., and D. teutoniaense Peris-Felipo sp. nov. The following new combinations are suggested for Nearctic species: Dinotrema angusticornis (Fischer, 1969) comb. nov., D. armillariae (Fischer, 1969) comb. nov., D. bucculatricis (Fischer, 1969) comb. nov., D. caudatulum (Fischer, 1969) comb. nov., D. clayensis (Fischer, 1969) comb. nov., D. communis (Fischer, 1969) comb. nov., D. disstriae (Fischer,1969) comb. nov., D. pauperum (Fischer, 1969) comb. nov., D. saileri (Fischer, 1969) comb. nov., D. shannoni (Fischer, 1969) comb. nov. and D. sylvaticae (Fischer, 1969) comb. nov. An identifi cation key of the all New World Dinotrema species is provided.
Several recent studies have detected and described complexes of cryptic and sibling species in the genus Merodon (Diptera, Syrphidae). One representative of these complexes is the Merodon avidus complex that contains four sibling species, which have proven difficult to distinguish using traditional morphological characters. In the present study, we use two geometric morphometric approaches, as well as molecular characters of the 5’-end of the mtDNA COI gene, to delimit sibling taxa. Analyses based on these data were used to strengthen species boundaries within the complex, and to validate the status of a previously-recognized cryptic taxon from Lesvos Island (Greece), here described as Merodon megavidus Vujić & Radenković sp. nov. Geometric morphometric results of both wing and surstylus shape confirm the present classification for three sibling species-M. avidus (Rossi, 1790), M. moenium Wiedemann in Meigen, 1822 and M. ibericus Vujić, 2015-and, importantly, clearly discriminate the newly-described taxon Merodon megavidus sp. nov. In addition to our geometric morphometric results, supporting characters were obtained from molecular analyses of mtDNA COI sequences, which clearly differentiated M. megavidus sp. nov. from the other members of the M. avidus complex. Molecular analyses revealed that the earliest divergence of M. ibericus occurred around 800 ky BP, while the most recent separation happened between M. avidus and M. moenium around 87 ky BP.
Palaeosynthemis opaca sp. nov., a new dragonfly from Papua New Guinea (Anisoptera: Synthemistidae)
(2016)
A new species of the synthemistid genus Palaeosynthemis is described from the northern slopes of Papua New Guinea’s central cordillera. It is distinguished from all congeners by having females with large, nearly black patches at the bases of both wings. The male is most similar to P. cervula and P. feronia, but it differs from those species in having superior anal appendages less than three times as long as S10, basally enlarged and otherwise unarmed vs basally not enlarged (feronia) and almost four times as long as S10 and armed (cervula). Characters of the adults (both sexes) are illustrated and the affinities of the species are discussed.
Taxonomic supplement (2001 to 2015) to the catalogue of New Zealand Carabidae (Insecta: Coleoptera)
(2016)
A supplement to the “Carabidae (Insecta: Coleoptera): catalogue” published by Larochelle and Larivière (2001; Fauna of New Zealand 43), is provided. A total of 99 genera and 547 species and subspecies belonging to 21 tribes and 8 subfamilies of Carabidae (including Cicindelini and Rhysodini), is recorded for New Zealand. Endemism is high, with 93% of the species and subspecies as well as 62% of the genera recorded from this country only. Changes to the 2001 catalogue are documented. The synonymy and type locality of taxa described between 2001 and 2015 are also provided.
The Iranian fauna of Cucujidae, Laemophloeidae, and Silvanidae (Coleoptera: Cucujoidea) are summarized in this paper. In total 2 species of Cucujidae (1 genus: Pediacus Shuckard), 6 species of Laemophloeidae (3 genera: Cryptolestes Ganglbauer, Laemophloeus Dejean, and Placonotus MacLeay) and 7 species of Silvanidae (6 genera: Uleiota Latreille, Psammoecus Latreille, Ahasverus Gozis, Nausibius Lentz, Oryzaephilus Ganglbauer, Psammoecus Latreille, and Silvanus Latreille) are listed in this paper. Synonymies and distribution data are given.
The genus Rhinolaemus Steel is revised. A new island and a new country record are presented for the type species, R. maculatus Steel. A new species, R. niueensis Thomas, new species, is described from Niue, and Rhinolaemus tuberculatus (Grouvelle), new combination, is transferred from Laemophloeus (sens. lat.). The members of the genus are illustrated and a key to their identification is presented.
The first Cenozoic roproniid wasp from the Paleocene of Menat, France (Hymenoptera: Proctotrupoidea)
(2016)
Paleoropronia salamonei gen. et sp. nov., the first Cenozoic Roproniidae, is described from the Paleocene of Menat (Massif Central, France) on the basis of its fore wing venation. The Roproniidae range between the Mesozoic and the present time. P. salamonei gen. et sp. nov. was perhaps a parasitoid on tenthredinid sawfly larvae, as these insects were present in the wasp fauna from Menat outcrop.
A new species of laevicaudatan branchiopod, Lynceus insularis sp. nov., is described. It is reported from five sinkholes (dolines) in the southern part of New Caledonia. Lynceus insularis sp. nov. is closest to Lynceus species from Australia, but can be separated from these on the basis of clasper morphology and the form of the lamina abdominalis. Lynceus insularis sp. nov. is the first record of a remote insular endemic laevicaudatan. The habitats of the species may be threatened due to hydrological changes, reduction of water supply, acidification of fresh water, invasive species, and/or mining activities in the vicinity.
A revised annotated checklist for the butterfly family Lycaenidae (Lepidoptera) of Trinidad is presented, updating nomenclature, and indicating synonyms from earlier lists and papers. The checklist includes 131 species of Lycaenidae, comprising 127 species of 49 genera of Eumaeini, Theclinae, and four species of three genera of Polyommatinae.
There are more than 30 new island records. No lycaenid species is endemic to Trinidad, and the fauna consists primarily of widespread species (71%) that occur from Central America to the Amazon Basin. However, the primary biogeographic affi nity is the Amazon Region, where 94% of the Trinidad lycaenid fauna also occurs.
Corrections are made to the literature cited in the first author’s earlier checklists on other Trinidad butterflies.
Franz von Assisi is seen as a champion of charity in favour of the poor ones. However that is not true. Poverty has not to be eliminated but praised as the most essential quality of human existence.

Pyroghatsiana, a new genus of pyrochroine Pyrochroidae is described from the Southern Ghats of the Indian continental southern tip. The only known specimen is a female, Pyroghatsiana madurensis (Pic), new combination, originally placed in Dendroides Latreille, and subsequently transferred to Pseudodendroides Blair. Several striking differences including the dorsal interocular width between the compound eyes, shape and length of the third antennal segment, and shape of the pronotum preclude placement of Pyroghatsiana in either Dendroides, Pseudodendroides, or any other existing pyrochroine genus.
Coeliccia poungyi dasha subsp. nov. (Odonata, Platycnemididae, Calicnemiinae) from eastern Cambodia
(2016)
Coeliccia poungyi dasha is described from the Annamense Mts. in the eastern Cambodia (holotype: Cambodia, Mondulkiri Province, a brook, a left tributary of the main river downstream Buu Sraa Waterfall, 12°34'0119'' N 107°24'50''25' 03'' E, 416490 m a.s., 15.06. 2014, RMNH). The new subspecies differs from the nominotypical one in coloration of the mesepisternum in males and end of the abdomen in both sexes, as well as in the length of the terminal lobe of the genital ligula.

Dang Hyang Astapaka and his cultural geography in spreading Vajrayana Buddhism in medieval Bali
(2016)
The sway of Hinduism and Buddhism in Indonesia archipelago had imprinted deep cultural heritages in various modes. The role of holy persons and kings were obvious in the spread of these religious and philosophical traditions. Dang Hyang Asatapaka, a Buddhist priest from East Java had travelled to Bali in spreading Vajrayana sect of Mahayana Buddhist in 1430. He came to Bali as the ruler of Bali invited him to officiate Homa Yajna together with his uncle Dang Hyang Nirartha, who had stayed earlier in Bali. Impressed with deep knowledge and spiritual acumen of him, the ruler Waturenggong King appointed him as a purohito (palace priest), whose jobs were to give spiritual consultation and political advisor in ruling the country. During his life times in Bali, he travelled from one place to another spreading Vajrayana sect of Buddhism. Lastly he settled in Budakeling village in East Bali where he built gerya (house) and temples for worship and meditation. From here he, his descents, and followers spread the Vajrayana to all over Bali and Lombok. He left us with Vajrayana sect of Buddhism, which was assimilated with Saivism. Dang Hyang Astapaka and his uncle Dang Hyang Nirartha were the advocators of Saiva-Buddha cult in Bali backed up by the rulers.
Records of Odonata collected in the vicinity of the Borneo Highlands Resort on Gunung Penrissen in south western Sarawak in the period 2014-2016 are presented.
Notable records include new species of Telosticta Dow & Orr, 2012, Rhinocypha Rambur, 1842 and Leptogomphus Selys, 1878, as well as the first record of the recently described genus Borneogomphus Karube & Sasamoto, 2014 from Sarawak.
The description of a new species of Kessleria (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae) is presented, based on male and female specimens obtained from laboratory rearing of material collected on their host, Maytenus boaria, of the central region of Chile.
The primary types of Onciderini Thomson, 1860 of the Field Museum of Natural History (FMNH) are catalogued and illustrated. Data on the original combination, current name, gender, and type locality are verifi ed and presented. There are 14 primary types of Onciderini including fi ve in Oncideres Lacordaire, 1830; three in Charoides Dillon and Dillon, 1945; and two in Jamesia Jekel, 1861. Of the 14 primary types, 13 were described by L.S. Dillon and E.S. Dillon. One lectotype is designated. A brief history of the Coleoptera collection at the FMNH is also presented.

The principles of the Islamic mystical exegesis are presented in this article. The sources of Islamic mystical exegesis of the Qur’an starts with Prophet Muhammad and his companions and continues with the following generations. In this regard, the narratives of ʿUmar and Ibn ʿAbbās are noteworthy because they were the first who disclosed the underlying meaning of certain verses which have reached us until today. The commentaries of the Islamic mystical exegetes are supported by the Qurʾān, some key Hadith of the Prophet and actions and words of his companions. This is a type of knowledge by unveiling (kašf) and is obtained by a channel that is confidential and closed to others. This leads to an ongoing debate as the confirmability is difficult. It is acknowledged that as long as these commentaries do not contradict with the literal meaning of the verses, are supported by solid narrations, or do not harm the boundaries of sharia they should be accepted as an enrichment.
This article is concerned with the mystical exegesis of the journey between Moses and Ḫiḍr mentioned in the Qurʾān in Sūrah al-Kahf (18/60-82). The verses are viewed and analysed by the commentaries of classic commentators (mufassirūn) aṭ-Ṭabarī, az-Zamaḫšarī and ar-Razī. The emphasis is set on the content-related description of Moses and Ḫiḍr which are found in Sūrah al-Kahf. The supreme allegory of the journey is that divinely-inspired knowledge (al-ʿilm al-ladunnī) may be received in the form of revelation (as Moses did) or as mystical, intuitive knowledge (as was given to Ḫiḍr). Classic commentators suggest, despite the distinguished position of Moses as a prophet, that the knowledge given to Ḫiḍr is superior and described as a secret or hidden knowledge. For this reason, Ḫiḍr holds an essential position in Islamic mystical tradition (taṣawwuf), in which Sūrah al-Kahf is considered as a legitimation for the mystical dimension in Islam.
