A new species of Cololejeunea section Protocolea, is described from Cerro Fábrega in Panama. The diagnostic characteristics of C. tixierii are lobes ovate-lanceolate, lobules never inflate but explanate or folded without forming a keel, reaching about half of the lobe length and perianth only faintly keeled at maturity.
This catalogue contains literature reports and new records of Costa Rican Hepaticae and Anthocerotae, proceeding from monographs, revisions, floristic inventories, ecological bryophyte studies and herbarium specimens. The nomenclature has been updated in several genera. A total of 582 hepatic and eight hornwort species are reported from Costa Rica. The present work adds 26 new species records, and excludes 49 dubious records. Three new synonyms are proposed: Taxilejeunea carinata Herzog (=Lejeunea anomala Lindenb. & Gottsche); Taxilejeunea standleyi Herzog (=T. obtusangula [Spruce] A. Evans) and Syzygiella gracillima Herzog (=S. perfoliata [Sw.] Spruce).
Twenty eight hepatics and eight hornwort species are reported as new to Panama. Data on their habitat, local and general distribution and are included. One species, Cololejeunea panamensis G. Dauphin & Pócs is described as new to science. A new combination, Megaceros canaliculatus (Pagán) Shaw & Renzaglia, corr. et emend. J. C. Vill. & Salazar Allen, is proposed. Eight further hepatic records from the literature have been added. This raises the total number of hepatics reported from Panama to 325 species in 100 genera and 28 families.
