Carl Brinitzer, 1907–1974
(2017)
Der aus deutsch-jüdischer Familie stammende Jurist Carl Brinitzer lebte ab 1933 im Exil, zunächst in Italien, ab 1936 in London. This study addresses new trends in translation studies and translation teaching, focusing on the possible use of database applications by translators. The article responds to the increasing market penetration of translation software designed to make the translation process – especially in professional and technical texts – more effective and efficient. The process includes the use of existing translations as a basis for new translations, consistent handling of terminology, simplification of the writing process, and the use of dictionary-type databases. After offering a basic theoretical discussion of CAT tools, the article focuses on their use by translators, especially in terms of how to teach user skills to translation students. The author draws on his experience of teaching the use of CAT tools (the application TRANSITNXT®) at the Department of German Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava.
Charlotte Beradt, 1901–1986
(2022)

Rezension zu Victor Klemperer: LTI – A Linguagem do III Reich. trad.
(2022)
This article has the objective to focus on the effects of globalization on the field of activity of the translators. With a historical overview covering the period from the Antique up to the present it is aimed to reveal that the emphasis on the translational demands were connected to the specific needs of that term. This analysis will show that the need for technical translation has increased. Based on this framework the effectivity of modern technical aids, which may be used with the purpose of accomplishing the translation of technical texts, is dealt with.
The learning outcomes of teaching translation in German departments at Moroccan universities have hardly been the subject of scientific debate among translation teachers and researchers alike. The actual translation course can only train students to pursue a career in intercultural communication and not in translation, because the teaching material and methodology don’t reflect the training objectives. The thesis of this paper is that the teaching of translation in the departments of German studies in Moroccan universities, as it stands, can have professional rather than academic goals, if the university pedagogical and technical conditions change and if the constraints projected in section 4 and the lines proposed in the same section below are followed.
Desafios à tradução do texto satírico : alguns exemplos de "Dritte Walpurgisnacht" de Karl Kraus
(2012)
The aim of this article is to compare migration as an intercultural confrontation and translation as a phenomenon creating a "Third Space" for cultural negotiation. In this frame it analyses what role interculturality plays in both areas and how these areas mutually reshape the other.
The study deals with how the deconstructive approaches that have triggered a new understanding in the field influence translation. In this context, the concept of interculturality brought both by translation and migration, should not be considered as a medium for harmonization and assimilation, but as a means of respect to the foreign that challenges the asymmetries and dominance between the powers. In this sense, the study will demonstrate how intercultural migration and translation enabling constructive and productive interaction can function as a dynamic potential for cultures.
Since translation and migration are two major restorative factors for intercultural communication, they create the mobility of people so of cultures which results in a reframing of the obsolete traditional perception of culture that relies on an isolated and homogenous culture model. This communication enables not only a new understanding of the other and a convergence of the cultures involved, but it also promotes a realisation of the self and its borders
This study examines the theory and practice of Kussmauls creative translating idea during the translating process of metaphors by Lakoff and Johnson. Creative translating could be functionalized for the process of literary translation. In this case it will be a vehicle for problem solving by the translation of the holistically metaphors defined by Lakoff/Johnson. These kinds of metaphors determine our live and are significant points of the language we use every day. Mostly they are very important for the receptively understanding of literary language and aims of the author and his text.
