The biography and cultural activities of Count Albert Josef Hodic has become a central theme of a whole series of publications on the history and cultural history, in which this nobleman is approached from the biographical as well as cultural and historical perspective. Although in the specialized literature Albert Joseph Hoditz is associated with the attributes oscillating between creativity, versatility, pacifist and cosmopolitan attitude, the pursuit of literary history to illuminate his numerous representations in European literature is rather marginal. The article aims to contribute to the approximation of the image of Count Hoditz in German literature.
The article is about mediating an involvement in the development of the Rosswald Castle Theater between 1750 and 1760. Attention is paid to the theater repertoire and the representation of the artistic atmosphere in the Rosswald Castle. Last but not least, the article outlines the role of the Rosswald sentimental garden, in which the dramas, operas and ballet performances were also located. The article points to the incorporation of creative impulses of Enlightenment into the repertoire of the Rosswald cultural scene. The focus of the investigation is on the activity of Johann Heinrich Friedrich Müller, who implemented the dramatic rules of the Enlightenment in the Rosswald Castle Theater.
The article presents the image of Count Albert Joseph Hoditz (1706–1778) as depicted in European literature. The emphasis is not primarily on German-language literature; the study foregrounds the image of Count Hoditz in other European literatures. The investigation spans the period from the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century.
Taktéž biografie kněžny Mechtildy Lichnowské (1879–1958) je protkána přátelstvími s německy a anglicky píšícími autory, hudebními skladateli a v neposlední řadě soudobými malíři. Předložená studie navazuje na dlouhodobý výzkum zabývající se fenomenální kulturní kontinuitou šlechtického rodu Lichnowských a přibližuje kontakty kněžny Mechtildy Lichnowské a Hugo von Hofmannsthala. Přátelství obou autorů bylo formováno jejich literárními a hudebními zájmy, jež ovlivňovaly vzájemnou, umělecky podnětnou výměnu názoru. Reflexe dramatické tvorby Hugo von Hofmannsthala a obraz jejich několika setkání, zachycený ve vzájemné korespondenci, doplňují mozaiku informací o literární tvorbě, kontaktech, názorech a uměleckém vývoji obou spisovatelů.
The friendly relationship between the renowned Munich doctor Wilhelm Schenk von Stauffenberg and the Austrian author Hugo von Hofmannsthal can be viewed in terms of the writer's life and work. This study traces the contacts between the two men, describes their shared interests and shows how Hofmannsthal planned to depict Stauffenberg in his works. These issues are viewed against the background of Stauffenberg's and Hofmannsthal's friendship with Countess Mechtilde Lichnowsky, who introduced the two men in 1909; the paper traces the mutual contacts until Stauffenberg's death in 1918.
This article deals with the literary depiction of Prince Felix Lichnowsky viewed through the lens of the Czech translation of the verse epic Atta Troll. The translation was published in 1953 and is linked to the translation work of Eduard Petiška. The aim of the study is to illuminate the correspondences or differences arising from the comparison of the original version with its translation.
The article deals with the representation of the life principles of Count Albert Joseph Hoditz as discussed in his literary work. The analysis places this work in its literary-historical and philosophical context and seeks to make an innovative contribution to literary-historical research of this topic.
The article provides an insight into the Czech translations of the lecture 'Weihnachtsgeheimnis' by Edith Stein (1891-1942), which were published in 1991 and 2003. The analysis of the translations is based on Skopos theory, the ideas of Christiane Nord and hermeneutic approaches; the author points out the specific features and demands of translating religious texts.
The study deals with the contacts between Princess Mechtilde Lichnowsky and the Prague German writer Franz Werfel in the years 1913–1914. The author outlines the friendly relationship between Mechtilde and Werfel, sketching the social and biographical background on the eve of World War I. In this context, attention is paid not only to Mechtilde Lichnowsky's drama "Ein Spiel vom Tod", but also to its reception by Werfel, by other authors, and not least by the contemporary press.
The fall of the Berlin Wall and its literary representations have often been described as a purely (white) German affair, as a discourse regarding (East/West) German identity. Taking on Leerssen's claim for a trans-/postnational imagology, this article provides an analysis of two novels depicting the fall of the Berlin Wall from transnational, not-(only)-German perspectives: Yadé Kara's "Selam Berlin" (2003) and Paul Beatty's "Slumberland" (2008). Comparing images and stereotypes used by both the Turkish-German narrator of Kara's and the African American narrator of Beatty's novel, it aims to undertake an exemplary case study of how imagology may be employed in contexts characterized by complex interferences of national, ethnic/racial, and urban ascriptions of belonging.
