• Der vorliegende Beitrag setzt sich zum Ziel, die Einstellungen und die Förderungsmaßnahmen der Eltern von Grundschulschüler_innen im Hinblick auf den DaF-Unterricht in der ostslowakischen Region zu beschreiben. Nach den Veränderungen in der Schulgesetzgebung bezüglich des Fremdsprachenlernens im September 2015 wurden nämlich Eltern zu einem ausschlaggebenden Faktor für die Verbreitung von DaF in der Slowakei. Sie entscheiden mit, ob ihr Kind Deutsch oder eine andere Fremdsprache lernt.
• The proposed article aims at describing the attitude and parental involvement of primary school pupils' parents with regard to teaching German as a foreign language (TGFL) in Eastern Slovakia. The theoretical chapter introduces the legal framework of TGFL within Level 2 of the ISCED. Consideration of the family home's role in the school socialization and the forms of parental involvement and its influencing factors follows. The chapter closes with an outline of the objectives of TGFL.The main purpose of the article is to present the outcomes of a research conducted in Eastern Slovakia. The questionnaire used for the collection of data covered following themes: 1) The reasons for choosing German as a subject of study 2) The expectations of parents regarding the skills gained after one year of learning German 3) Parental involvement in learning German 4) School factors that could, according to parents, improve the standard of TGFL. The study concludes with a summary and reflects upon the parental involvement.
