Die Gattung Echinochloa in der Umgebung von Aachen, Teil 1: Die Echinochloa muricata-Gruppe
The genus Echinochloa in the surroundings of Aachen (North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany). Part 1: The Echinochloa muricata group
- In the first part of a description of the taxa of the genus Echinochloa in the surroundings of Aachen (urban area of Aachen and adjacent regions of Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands), the E. muricata group is discussed. In this group, besides E. muricata s. str., another species, E. wiegandii, is distinguished. E. wiegandii looks almost like E. crus-galli s. l. with respect to the panicle branches and the appearance of the spikelets, but it belongs to the E. muricata group because of the characteristic features of the fertile lemma and palea. The diagnostic features of E. wiegandii compared to E. muricata s. str. are an earlier flowering time, narrower, darker coloured spikelets with weaker bristles, and longer awns.
