• Nach Bobrowskis Statement ist auch der Kanon eine "Vorstellung", die "zuende" geht, dennoch liegt in diesem klaren Eingeständnis gleichzeitig für ihn die Verpflichtung zu einer "Überschau", zur Darstellung von "Bindungen" in einem 'tiefen Verständnis', zu einer Allgemein-'Gültigkeit' trotz vergangener und zukünftiger Verlusterfahrungen. Wenn Kanon, dann in diesem neuen Sinne, im Bewusstsein einer Herkunft und eines Weiterziehens in eine andere, fremde Zukunft, in der offenen Beweglichkeit von Lebensräumen im Plural, in einer Bereitschaft zum Gehen im Spannungsfeld der Beobachtung von 'Vergehendem' und 'Noch-nicht-ganz-Vergangen-Sein'. [...] der Kanon [erweist sich] in Form des Motivs "Wanderer" als gattungsübergreifendes – hier Lyrik und Prosa – Narrativ in klarer chronologisch-topographisch-logischer Struktur. Das Wandern als Bewegung in Zeit und Raum ist Modell für eine Wandlungsbereitschaft, die erst Orientierung für das Leben in der Zukunft bietet.
• The literary motif "the wanderer" includes a number of historical migration motifs. The analysis of the motifs for travelling and the consequences of travelling lead us to a central topic of literature – "the canon". Literary canon-formation is always based on the experience of historical situations of crisis. While we may understand the historical and local differences, we must ask ourselves whether there is a central core of literary knowledge and skills: the romantic parlance of welcome and farewell, living and thinking between past and future, modern broadening of horizons. The list does not necessarily lead to the formation of a canon, but reveals personal reading experiences: Friedrich Hölderlin, Walter Benjamin, Johannes Bobrowski, Herta Müller, Lutz Seiler. In Vita activa, Hannah Arendt defines the human condition as being on a lifelong travel conceived as a political action towards humanity, a nomadic state between "the no longer and the not yet". In his work "Denkbilder", the Jewish philosopher and "homme de lettre" Walter Benjamin describes scenes from European metropolises. He offers a glance at quite heterogeneous and freely chosen life styles of the turbulent nineteen-twenties to sketch a possible future for Europe. Today's readers of the "Denkbilder" can hardly suppress the memory of a political and personal crisis, namely that of Benjamin's flight across the Pyrenees. In the poem "Der Wanderer", the writer Johannes Bobrowski, a resident of East Berlin, captures the life of a wanderer who depends on the hospitality of others, because he is either persecuted or his freely chosen lifestyle requires him to roam about. For both authors, travelling becomes a substitute for "Heimat" and also a way of life that represents the future of Europe while transforming the historical landscape of "Sarmatia" into a mental horizon.
