Effects of a phase transition on HBT correlations in an integrated Boltzmann+hydrodynamics approach
(2009)
A systematic study of HBT radii of pions, produced in heavy ion collisions in the intermediate energy regime (SPS), from an integrated (3+1)d Boltzmann+hydrodynamics approach is presented. The calculations in this hybrid approach, incorporating an hydrodynamic stage into the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics transport model, allow for a comparison of different equations of state retaining the same initial conditions and final freeze-out. The results are also compared to the pure cascade transport model calculations in the context of the available data. Furthermore, the effect of different treatments of the hydrodynamic freeze-out procedure on the HBT radii are investigated. It is found that the HBT radii are essentially insensitive to the details of the freeze-out prescription as long as the final hadronic interactions in the cascade are taken into account. The HBT radii RL and RO and the RO/RS ratio are sensitive to the EoS that is employed during the hydrodynamic evolution. We conclude that the increased lifetime in case of a phase transition to a QGP (via a Bag Model equation of state) is not supported by the available data.
Hadron production and their suppression in Pb+Pb collisions at LHC at a center-of-mass energy of sNN=2.76 TeV are studied within a multiphase transport (AMPT) model whose initial conditions are obtained from the recently updated HIJING 2.0 model. The centrality dependence of charged hadron multiplicity dNch/dη at midrapidity was found quite sensitive to the largely uncertain gluon shadowing parameter sg that determines the nuclear modification of the gluon distribution. We find final-state parton scatterings reduce considerably hadron yield at midrapidity and enforces a smaller gluon shadowing to be consistent with dNch/dη data at LHC. With such a constrained parton shadowing, charged hadron and neutral pion production over a wide transverse momenta range are investigated in AMPT. Relative to nucleon–nucleon collisions, the particle yield in central heavy ion collisions is suppressed due to parton energy loss. While the calculated magnitude and pattern of suppression is found consistent with that measured in Au+Au collisions at sNN=0.2 TeV at RHIC, at the LHC energy the suppression is overpredicted which may imply the medium formed at LHC is less opaque than expected from simple RHIC extrapolations. Reduction of the QCD coupling constant αs by ∼30% in the higher temperature plasma formed at LHC as compared to that at RHIC was found to reproduce the measured suppression at LHC.
We suggest to explore an entirely new method to experimentally and theoretically study the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter based on the triple nuclear collisions (TNC).We simulated the TNC using the UrQMD 3.4 model at the beam center of- mass collision energies √SNN = 200 GeV and √SNN = 2.76 TeV. It is found that in the most central and simultaneous TNC the initial baryonic charge density is about 3 times higher than the one achieved in the usual binary nuclear collisions at the same energies. As a consequence, the production of protons and Λ-hyperons is increased by a factor of 2 and 1.5, respectively. Using the MIT Bag model equation we study the evolution of the central cell in TNC and demonstrate that for the top RHIC energy of collision the baryonic chemical potential is 2-2.5 times larger than the one achieved in the binary nuclear collision at the same time of reaction. Based on these estimates, we show that TNC offers an entirely new possibility to study the QCD phase diagram at very high baryonic charge densities.
The aim of this paper is to understand resonance production (and more generally particle production) for different collision systems, namely proton-proton (pp), proton-nucleus (pA), and nucleus-nucleus (AA) scattering at the LHC. We will investigate in particular particle yields and ratios versus multiplicity, using the same multiplicity definition for the three different systems, in order to analyse in a compact way the evolution of particle production with the system size and the origin of a very different system size dependence of the different particles.

The production of charmonia in the antiproton-nucleus reactions at plab = 3 − 10 GeV/c is studied within the Glauber model and the generalized eikonal approximation. The main reaction channel is charmonium formation in an antiproton-proton collision. The target mass dependence of the charmonium transparency ratio allows to determine the charmonium-nucleon cross section. The polarization effects in the production of χc2 states are evaluated.
One of important consequences of Hagedorn statistical bootstrap model is the prediction of limiting temperature Tcrit for hadron systems colloquially known as Hagedorn temperature. According to Hagedorn, this effect should be observed in hadron spectra obtained in infinite equilibrated nuclear matter rather than in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We present results of microscopic model calculations for the infinite nuclear matter, simulated by a box with periodic boundary conditions. The limiting temperature indeed appears in the model calculations. Its origin is traced to strings and many-body decays of resonances.
These proceedings will cover various studies of hadronic resonances within the UrQMD transport model. After a brief explanation of the model, various observables will be highlighted and the chances for resonance reconstruction in hadronic channels will be discussed. Possible signals of chiral symmetry restoration will be investigated for feasibility.
We present results on hadronic resonance production in high energy nuclear collisions from the UrQMD hybrid model. In particular we are interested in the effect of the final hadronic stage on the properties of resonances observable at RHIC and LHC experiments. We investigate weather these observable properties can be used to pinpoint the transition energy density from the QGP phase to the hadronic phase.
We introduce a novel approach based on elastic and inelastic scattering rates to extract the hyper-surface of the chemical freeze-out from a hadronic transport simulation. We use the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model to extract the chemical freeze-out hyper-surface of pions and kaons in the energy range from Elab = 1:23A GeV to √SNN = 7.7 GeV. By employing a coarse-graining procedure, we can extract the local temperature T and baryo-chemical potential μB on the chemical freeze-out surface and compare them to results from statistical model analysis. We find good agreement between the pion chemical freeze-out line extracted from the simulation and the freeze-out line from the statistical model extracted from data. In addition the simulations also hint towards the existence of a flavor hierarchy similar to the one observed in recent lattice QCD calculations.
