The large acceptance TPCs of the NA49 spectrometer allow for a systematic multidimensional study of two-particle correlations in different part of phase space. Results from Bertsch-Pratt and Yano-Koonin-Podgoretskii parametrizations are presented differentially in transverse pair momentum and pair rapidity. These studies give an insight into the dynamical space-time evolution of relativistic Pb+Pb collisions, which is dominated by longitudinal expansion.
We define a sentiment indicator that exploits two contrasting views of return predictability, and study its properties. The indicator, which is based on option prices, valuation ratios and interest rates, was unusually high during the late 1990s, reflecting dividend growth expectations that in our view were unreasonably optimistic. We interpret it as helping to reveal irrational beliefs about fundamentals. We show that our measure is a leading indicator of detrended volume, and of various other measures associated with financial fragility. We also make two methodological contributions. First, we derive a new valuation-ratio decomposition that is related to the Campbell and Shiller (1988) loglinearization, but which resembles the traditional Gordon growth model more closely and has certain other advantages for our purposes. Second, we introduce a volatility index that provides a lower bound on the market's expected log return.
The genus Miridiba Reitter, 1902, of phytophagous chafers from Asia, is revised based on external morphological and genital (male and female) characters. In this study, a total fifty-eight species of Miridiba were examined, and the genus is redescribed. Male genital characters of Miridiba, especially the morphology of parameres and endophallus, are studied in depth herein. The female genitalia of Miridiba are studied and described in detail for the first time. According to genital characters, nine genital morphotypes, including fifty-four species, are established under the genus Miridiba. Sixty-seven type specimens are studied. Miridiba gressitti (Frey, 1970) comb. nov., Miridiba borneensis (Moser, 1918) comb. nov., Miridiba coxalis (Arrow, 1944) comb. nov., Miridiba rugaticollis (Moser, 1913) comb. nov., Miridiba nigrescens (Moser, 1916) comb. nov., Miridiba scutata (Reitter, 1902) comb. nov., Miridiba ciliatipennis (Moser, 1903) comb. nov. and Miridiba brunneipennis (Moser, 1916) comb. nov. are transferred from Holotrichia. Holotrichia dalatensis Frey, 1970 is transferred to Miridiba as a synonym of Miridiba sinensis (Hope, 1842). Four junior subjective synonyms are proposed: Miridiba pilosella (Moser, 1908) (= Holotrichia formosana Moser, 1909), Miridiba sinensis (= Holotrichia dalatensis Frey, 1970), Miridiba scutata (= Holotrichia scutulata Dalla Torre, 1912 and Miridiba lassallei Keith, 2010). Miridiba frontalis (Fairmaire, 1886) is resurrected as a valid species. A key to 51 of the 58 valid species of Miridiba is presented.
Revision of the genus Cerapanorpa (Mecoptera: Panorpidae) with descriptions of four new species

The genus Cerapanorpa Gao, Ma & Hua, 2016 is taxonomically revised. Cerapanorpa is confirmed to be endemic to the mountain regions in central China. Nineteen species are recognized in the genus, including four new species: Cerapanorpa baimaensis sp. nov., Cerapanorpa xuebaodinga sp. nov., and Cerapanorpa yanggashana sp. nov. from the Minshan Mountains, and Cerapanorpa taizishana sp. nov. from the northeastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Six species are transferred from Cerapanorpa back to Panorpa Linnaeus, 1758. An updated key to species is presented.
Cyclic GMP (cGMP) signalling regulates multiple biological functions through activation of protein kinase G and cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) channels. In sensory neurons, cGMP permits signal modulation, amplification and encoding, before depolarization. Here we implement a guanylyl cyclase rhodopsin from Blastocladiella emersonii as a new optogenetic tool (BeCyclOp), enabling rapid light-triggered cGMP increase in heterologous cells (Xenopus oocytes, HEK293T cells) and in Caenorhabditis elegans. Among five different fungal CyclOps, exhibiting unusual eight transmembrane topologies and cytosolic N-termini, BeCyclOp is the superior optogenetic tool (light/dark activity ratio: 5,000; no cAMP production; turnover (20 °C) ∼17 cGMP s−1). Via co-expressed CNG channels (OLF in oocytes, TAX-2/4 in C. elegans muscle), BeCyclOp photoactivation induces a rapid conductance increase and depolarization at very low light intensities. In O2/CO2 sensory neurons of C. elegans, BeCyclOp activation evokes behavioural responses consistent with their normal sensory function. BeCyclOp therefore enables precise and rapid optogenetic manipulation of cGMP levels in cells and animals.
The modification of the width of the rho meson due to in-medium decays and collisions is evaluated. In high temperature and/or high density hadronic matter, the collision width is much larger than the one-loop decay width. The large width of the meson in matter seems to be consistent with some current interpretations of the e+e mass spectra measured at the CERN/SPS.

The decay width is calculated from the imaginary part of the one-loop selfenergy at finite temperature. The collision width is related to the cross sections of the rho + pion and the rho + nucleon reactions. A calculation based on an e ective Lagrangian shows the importance of including the direct pho pi - > pho pi scattering which is dominated by the a1 exchange. Prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) is involved in a variety of physiological and pathophysiological processes, but its role in fever is poorly understood and the data obtained so far are rather controversial. Here we investigated the effects of central PGD2 delivery and of systemic prostaglandin D synthase (PGDS) or cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibition on core body temperature (TC) and on prostaglandin levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of rats. Both PGE2 and PGD2 were detectable in CSF samples from control rats (6.2 ± 1.1 and 17.3 ± 3.1 pg/ml, respectively). Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection (50 μg i.p.) induced fever during the 5-hour observation period. Five hours after LPS injection, the levels of PGE2 and PGD2 were increased in the CSF about 90-fold (541.0 ± 47.5 pg/ml) and 5-fold (95.4 ± 23.1 pg/ml), respectively. Administration of PGD2 (50 - 500 ng) into the cisterna magna (i.c.m) evoked a delayed fever response in a dose-dependent manner that was accompanied by increased levels of PGE2 in the CSF. RT-PCR analyses revealed that the increased levels of PGE2 after PGD2 administration were not caused by up-regulation of COX-2 or microsomal prostaglandin E synthase 1 (mPGES-1) in the hypothalamus. Interestingly, i.c.m. pretreatment of animals with PGD2 considerably sustained the pyrogenic effects of i.c.m. administered PGE2. Pretreatment with a novel PGDS inhibitor, EDJ300520 (10 – 40 mg/kg p.o.), 1 h prior to the LPS injection impaired the LPS-induced increase of both PGD2 and PGE2 in the CSF and inhibited the fever response. In contrast, administration of EDJ300520 3 h after LPS injection did not ameliorate the LPS-induced fever. Accordingly, the concentration of PGE2 in the CSF was not decreased after EDJ300520 treatment. However, the CSF levels of PGD2 were reduced after administration of a high dose of EDJ300520 (40 mg/kg). We also investigated the effects of antipyretic drugs on the CSF levels of PGE2 and PGD2 during LPS-induced fever. Four antipyretic drugs with different mechanisms of action were used, including ibuprofen (5 - 20 mg/kg), celecoxib (10 - 50 mg/kg), SC560 5 - 20 mg/kg), and paracetamol (50 - 150 mg/kg). Each drug was used in three different doses and was orally administered 3 h after the LPS injection. All drugs were capable to attenuate the LPS-induced fever. The decrease of TC paralleled the reduction of PGE2 levels in the CSF. Of note, there was a tendency to reduced PGD2 levels in the CSF after treatment with the antipyretic drugs. However, only SC560 and the high dose of celecoxib (50 mg/kg) reduced the PGD2 levels significantly. In summary, our experiments underscore the pivotal role of PGE2 as the principal downstream mediator of fever. Moreover, we demonstrate that PGD2 is also involved in the mechanisms underlying fever. Our data suggest that PGD2 exerts an indirect pyrogenic effect by modulating the availability of PGE2 in the CSF. Additional studies are needed to explore the exact mechanism by
Respiration is one of the key processes of energy transduction used by the cell. It consists of two components: electron transfer and ATP production. The electron transfer chain converts the energy released from several biochemical redox reactions into an electrochemical proton gradient across membranes. This stored energy is used as the driving force for the production of ATP by the ATP synthase. The mitochondrial electron transfer chain contains four major protein complexes called complexes I-IV, with counting starting at the lower side of the redox potentials. It has been discussed for a long time how these protein complexes are organized in the membranes. Do they diffuse freely in the membrane? Alternatively, do they form a supercomplex built up of several neighboring complexes? The evidence supporting the free diffusion mode is that both electron transfer intermediates (cytochrome c and quinone) behave as “pool”. However, respiratory supercomplexes have been detected in membranes from bacteria, fungi, yeast, plant and animal during the last decade, and sometimes the respiratory complexes are only stable inside a supercomplex. Therefore, the idea of supercomplex formation has become more popular. The argument that the supercomplex arises from solubilization and is a detergent artifact could be rejected because: 1) supercomplexes can be isolated from many organisms in an active form; 2) supercomplexes have been proven to stabilize the individual complexes in some cases; 3) supercomplexes can be very stable after chromatographic isolation in some cases....
Theory of mind (ToM), or the ability to infer and predict the intentions, thoughts and beliefs of others, involves cognitive perspective taking (cognitive ToM/cToM) and understanding emotions (affective ToM/aToM). While behavioral evidence indicates that ToM is influenced by sex and age, no study has examined the influence of these variables on the neural correlates of cToM and aToM in late childhood/adolescence. Using fMRI with 35 typically-developing youths (aged 9–18 years, 12 males), we investigated the influence of sex and age on the neural correlates of cToM and aToM. We also examined how callous-unemotional traits, indexing a lack of empathy, were related to brain responses during aToM. Across both conditions, we found convergent activity in ToM network regions, such as superior temporal sulcus/temporoparietal junction (TPJ) and precuneus across males and females, but males recruited the left TPJ significantly more than females during cToM. During aToM, age was negatively correlated with brain responses in frontal, temporal and posterior midline regions, while callous-unemotional traits were positively correlated with right anterior insula responses. These results provide the first evidence in youth that sex influences the neural correlates of cToM, while age and callous-unemotional traits are specifically related to brain responses during aToM.
