Aktivierung von Steroidsystemen zu alkylierenden Agenzien

Activation of steroid systems to alkylating agents

  • 7-Dehydrocholesterol and ergosterol are oxidised by iodine and FeCl3 under "physiologically similar" conditions to highly reactive alkylating species. These can be trapped by nucleophiles, such as 1-methylimidazole. The oxidation of the sterols to those alkylating species is discussed as a model-reaction for the first step in chemical carcinogenesis by endogene substrates.
